Let's set something straight.
In the play-em, rest-em debate, for some reason 2007 is brought up as an example of the colts going one and done because they "lost momentum".
So let's set something straight.
The 2007 Colts did NOT lose their first playoff game because they rested players.
They lost it because the roster was DEVASTATED by injuries.
I know at this point, you're like "No shit it was". But let's stop back and remember HOW MANY people went down.
Rob Morris, starting strong-side linebacker, that had keyed a defensive face-lift that absolutely shut down the best offense in football (that would be the Bears), gone. Dwight Freeney, number one pass rusher, gone. Robert Mathis, number TWO pass-rusher, severely hurt and not playing up to speed. MARVIN FUCKING HARRISON, all-world wide receiver, gone for the season but returning to haunt all our dreams in a playoff game that was basically the end of his career. Countless others that were dinged-up or inactive for the games.
Indy "rested it's players" because it HAD NO PLAYERS LEFT. That's somewhat of a handicap in a playoff situation. They nearly beat the Chargers anyway.
So Indy's loss had more to do with the reason they were resting players to begin with (health), and nothing to do with momentum or rust (except in Marvin Harrison's case, who hadn't been in a game for almost ten weeks, not two).
That said, if we don't whip the Jets I'll be heartbroken.
