Anyone else tired of hearing about San Diego?

This morning as I was watching ESPN I heard Skip Bayless and some other reporter talk about how San Diego is the team to watch out for in the playoffs and they really couldnt give a crap about the Colts being undefeated. Skip in all his wisdom says that the Chargers have the Colts number and will beat them in the playoffs and then said that the Colts are a one-and-done team. I found this to be really interesting since the Colts wouldnt play the Chargers until possibly the AFC Championship. Also, I didn't realize that the past playoff losses affected how this season would turn out as well. Come on Skip, either admit Peyton Manning is the MVP for leading this team to 14-0 or finally admit the Colts are more consistant than the Chargers and that we are just a better team. I found this love-affair with the Chargers to be true for almost every other ESPN show including Around the Horn. First ESPN gets on the Saints bandwagon even though the Colts were a better team and the Saints had an easier schedule until they finally lost a game and now they are getting on the Chargers bandwagon. Anyone else getting kind of tired of the bias in the media?

Just found this recently, here is an example of ESPN bias. Again someone from the AFC West commenting on how the Chargers are better than the Colts. http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwest/post/_/id/8324/colts-need-to-worry-about-san-diego

They have to have some sort of story

and the Pats aren’t their usual selves. They did the same thing with NE: “they have the Colts’ number, etc” That is, until they didn’t. My prediction is that this is the year that the Colts have SDs number. So, who will be the next team to have our number? Anyone? I personally can’t think of any other team at the moment – but the MSM will find someone.

I still say Phillip Rivers is a puke.

We have to play the Colts for that to happen

And we won’t be meeting in the regular season until 2011.

Actually,

I kind of have a sick enjoyment for all the crap the media spews about Indy. It’ll just make that Lombardi Trophy that much sweeter when the Colts are kissin’ on it in Miami.

This won't end

until we beat SD in the playoffs.
So far, we don’t know if we will play against them but most people almost see the AFCCG being SD at Indy. If the Chargers and the media see that game already, cool for them. They probably won’t make it past the divisional round.
I’m glad the Colts take it one game at a time, cause today, the only game that matters is the one against the Jets on sunday.

Let them keep talking about

the Chargers or who ever they want to talk about. It keeps the focus off the Colts and therefore we have less pressure around the team each week.

Cause if they talk about us solely like they did about the Pats in ’07 then the pressure will start getting to the team and we will start to lose the close games that we should win. It happen with the Pats.Everyone focused on them and they started to not do so great and finally the presure go to them in the SB.

So let them talk about the Chargers and when we beat them in the AFC Champ game they will have to focus on us being 18-0, but by that time no matter how much they talk they wont be able to generate enough pressure to really effect the team.

We're out there for 60 minutes. In that 60 minutes you can be gods or you can be smucks. And I want to be a god. How bout you?

Personally,

It doesn’t bother me at all to hear about the Chargers. Look they are a good team and Phillip Rivers is doing something similar to what Manning is doing… carrying a team on his shoulders with no running game.

Yesterday I was having a debate with a friend of mine about how good the Chargers were. We are as evenly matched as they come.

Much like last years game it came down to special teams play and defense. I believe again because we are two teams that struggle to run the ball effectively, that a match up would come down to special teams and defense.

But give them the spot light…

The game isn’t played in the media nor is the game played on paper… its played on the field! We will get our chance!

by Justin Pugh on Dec 24, 2009 8:42 AM EST reply actions

Problem is

River is doing the same thing Manning is against crappier teams. When the Charger good teams they seem to struggle. Minus the one time they blew out Denver.

The media go on like a 9 game winning streak is the most amazing thing a team has ever done. Never mind they got their asses handed to them early in the year.. Oh well they have injuries. Well hello.. everyone has injuries. And the Chargers D against weaker opponents has not been as good as ours.

The last couple of losses have come against a battered colts team. Where punting or bad kicking gave them the game.. Can’t see that repeating.

I have a feeling...

that Freeney and Mathis are going to get a lot of press from all the sacks and pass rush plays they make in the playoffs. Session, Brackett, Brock, Bethea, Bullitt, Muir… all those guys are ready to do some damage… Lots of love for the D this year… Can’t wait….

by bluecoltsfan on Dec 24, 2009 1:59 PM EST reply actions

Until we slay that dragon...

We get to hear about the Chargers again and again and again and again. We’re 0-5 against them in the past 5 years… two playoff losses, home and home… losses in Indy in ’05 and ’07… losses with manyof their stars on the bench…

No other team has beaten the Colts more than 4 times in the past 6 seasons, and that includes some tough divisional foes and the iconic Patriots, who have all played the Colts more times than the Bolts.

by Teacher317 on Dec 24, 2009 2:16 PM EST reply actions

We're not 0-5

against them. We beat the Chargers in the regular season last year.

Yes, that makes it 1-3 in the last four meetings against the Rivers-led Chargers

and 2-4 if you want to go all the way back to Brees and the 2004 season, but by then you might as well be talking about the AFL in 1968—different HCs for both teams, and probably 70% different personnel as well from five years ago.

And 1-3 has a small sample size problem. Also, the point differential in those four games was -1, -4, +2, and 0 (the tie) or -6, depending on how you look at it. About 1-2 pts per game, with three being in SD (3 pt advantage for HF). Ergo, on a neutral field, during the time they “owned” us, we’re probably ahead. Now addressing the fluky injury mishaps, refereeing boners, etc., then these teams have been even at best over that time (with an arguable advantage for Indy).

And this year it comes to a crashing halt. Chargers have fattened up on bad competition. They will be exposed, if they get to the AFCCG.

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

I'm not. It's a nice town. Very pretty. The stadium stinks. The team's okay.

Doesn’t it put extra pressure on them to be “so hot” and “so good?” Do they thrive on pressure? No! In 2006, they were one and done b/c of all that pressure of being the number 1 seed. They’ve only won the games b/c they were supposed underdogs. So I think it’s great that San Diego gets all this pressure of being the team to beat in the playoffs.

by diagenesis on Dec 24, 2009 2:25 PM EST reply actions

I meant the Colts games, they won those as they had all the ppl picking against them.. all the talk about

how they shouldn’t even be in the playoffs at 8-8 or the year before against the 13-3 Colts. But their 14-2 year, they were the favorites and didn’t make it. So I hope 06 kind of pressure gets to them!

I'm not

Since they have owned us in the playoffs and deserve some of this respect because of their 9 game winning streak and the fact that they beat the Colts in the playoffs the last two years. If the Colts had beaten San Diego but lost to the Steelers in round 2, no one would be talking about them.

I'm so tired of bandwagon jumping commentators

I just wrote a post about this but I’m tired of the sports commentators. They go from one team to another. The ultimate goal for them I think is to not look stupid, and due to our 8 playoff losses this decade and only 1 superbowl win I guess this is to be expected. I don’t know if San Diego’s bandwagon is much better though because they don’t even have a superbowl win yet. All in all, I think it’s good though, it takes the focus off of us for awhile and we can under dog it kinda. I hope we get a Superbowl win this year because I am tired of adding fuel to these stupid commentator’s anti – Colts fire!
