does anyone miss sanders

Melvin Bullitt has proven to be better than sanders. He makes great tackles in run defense and is better pass defender. Just because he doesn't flex his muscles when he makes a play(which sanders is paid handsomley(sic) to do) doesn't mean he's'not as good.SEE NEW ENGLAND FOURTH DOWN. Oh by the way he stays healthy and plays in every game. I say release Sanders and his big contract,,,,

Actually I miss Sanders

I have a feeling that somewhere in the playoffs we’re going to say, “Sanders could have made that tackle.” In fact in the Jags game I was thinking what a difference maker he really could have been. Nevertheless, I am still very very happy with where we are now and can’t believe we’ll have Sanders and Jackson in the wings available again next year (God and healing willing!).

How can you not love a team that does this?

Yes, I do miss him.

ESPN2 was playing the NFL Flims version of Colts 06 AFC championship game and then the superbowl yesterday and we had it in the background and I definitely miss him. I am looking forward to his return!

While Melvin has proved a solid replacement,

I miss Bob. He is such a difference maker when healthy that you can’t cut him. I’m not sure of the contract details for Bob and Melvin going forward, but you have to hang on to Bob.

Of course I miss Sanders

Don’t get me wrong, Bullit’s been good. He’s efficient. I’m sure it’s happened, but I can’t think of one time Bullit has completely blown a play this year. It might have been him who missed the assignment on Moss in the Patriots game, but I’m not sure and that’s the only major instance I can think of. I like the guy. However, a healthy Sanders is still a beast to have on the field. It’s easy to forget how good the guy is since he has spent the majority of the last 2 years on the bench. Unless he somehow turns it around completely next year, I don’t think the Colts should re-sign him unless they get him at a price where it’s a simple cut-him-if-he’s-hurt situation.

As for cutting him now, no. It seems like they’d save a lot, but there was a breakdown of his contract when he came back earlier this year and people thought he should be cut. Releasing him at that time would have only saved the team about 1.5mil, if I remember correctly. So, essentially, you’re spending 1.5 million on the hope that Sanders gets healthy and gives us at least a quarter of the season next year. You never know how games will shape out (who honestly thought we’d be 14-0? I guessed we’d finish 13-3 and that seemed lofty at the time), and having Sanders back for even 4 games next year may be the difference between the #1 seed and a wildcard berth, considering how strong our entire division has looked as of late. One or more of those teams is poised to break out next year, and if 1.5mil gives you Bob Sanders in a road game against Houston or Tennessee when the tiebreaker may end up being critical, then you cough up the 1.5mil and hope for the best.

Wow

Bullitt has not proven he’s better than Sanders, he can just stay on the field. Sanders injury this year was something totally random. It has nothing to do with the injury that has been plaguing him and that’s his knee. There’s no reason to think Sanders wont be back next year 100% and ready to beat some ass.

Bullitt is good, but he’s not a difference maker like Sanders is. When Sanders is on the field the defense is an animal! They all play better with him on the field. Bullitt has done an admirable job filling in for Bob, but he’s no Bob and the defense misses Bob.

The Sanders debate/hate had died down too…why would you go bring it back up at a time where it doesn’t even matter? To say release Sanders is foolish. He will come back and kick the Colts ass every time he played against them. Get a clue dude. Sanders isn’t goin anywhere and your gonna like it!

Bob Sanders does not play Hide-and-Seek, He plays HIDE and PRAY-HE-DOES-NOT FIND-YOU!

Even if you think Bullitt is better (which I think is incorrect)

you are totally clueless to not have missed him when the Colts were using Jaime Silva at Safety and as a dimeback.

Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.

It's shocking how much can slip your perception

Duh I miss him

His true value isn’t in stats or lots of picks (like Ed Reed). Be honest. If you’re a receiver and you’re told that you need to go over the middle and make a catch, wouldn’t your chances of making that catch go up if you’re told the safety who’s about to hit you is Melvin Bullit and NOT Bob Sanders?

I miss him a lot.

Besides, while I think that 4th down against the Pats was an amazing play, I prefer that pass defended by Bobzilla on that key 3rd down against the Patsies in the 06 season AFCCC which gave the Colts posession and then, that amazing drive to win the game.

Of course we miss him

And are you, like, saying that Sanders wouldn’t have made that tackle in the Pats game? Because I think he might have…

We’re lucky to have good depth at safety, but there’s no team in the NFL that wouldn’t improve with a healthy Bob Sanders starting. Which isn’t to say we should keep paying him if he can’t get on the field – but to say that we don’t miss him, or that when healthy, Bullitt is better, is too big a leap to make.

Couple of really insane things here

its not Bullitt vs Sanders in this case, its Sanders or Bullitt vs Silva or Tim Jennings when it comes to depth or sub packages. In that case, its a no brainer that you’d like to have Sanders healthy and on the roster.

I’m as big a Bullitt fan as there is (and also as out of love with Sanders as possible) but even I want them BOTH healthy.

Second, i think its insane to compare Bullitt of right now with Bullitt of 6 weeks ago. He’s clearly hurt. He’s clearly playing through something. Bethea has a robotic arm. Everything Bethea or Bullitt make a tackle they lay on the ground begging for mercy. They are hurt. I dont know if its something that only the off-season can fix, or if they really want 19-0, but they are playing through injuries. Something that Bob Sanders doesn’t excel at.

Ive said before that I think Bullitt > Sanders when you factor in every thing, including health, but I don’t think its really a question that Sanders is perhaps the most talented person on the defense (maybe second, behind Free) having someone like that available can only be a good thing.

are you OUT OF YOUR MIND?!?!?!?!?!

Colts need Sanders! What if Bullitt gets hurt ,then we will end up like the BEARS!!!!!With no secondary!

by siegeman88 on Dec 27, 2009 5:49 PM EST reply actions

suckered

I had no idea how any of you are suckered in by the sanders hype…look at the stats. melvins are just as good as sanders was in the year bob won dpy….Oh btw you can make alot of tackles whn the defense sucked as bad as the colts did that year. Does anyone of you think the defense is as bad now as then? Oh if melvin gets hurt bobs not coming in to back him up this year hes out for the season WITH ANOTHER INJURY!!!!!!!!!!…to the comment ‘Bullitt hasnt proved he’s better than Sanders hes just stayed on the field’ Reread your comment about five times in a row for me and hopefully you will see how ridiculous you just sounded. Heres something you guys may have forgotten. Remember how the steelers tightend burned us down the seam in the playoffs a couple years ago. They threw right to sanders spot, because they knew sanders crowds the line, sanders never made the adjustment and their TE looked like a hof that game..No TE taking over games with melvin out there…Dont be blinded by some one who hits a guy real hard and the gets up and flexes everytime he makes a tackle. A three yard gain is a three yar d gain….

sanders isnt going anywhere.....

I dont hate bob sanders I just think hes not worth $6 mil a year. And have we really missed him? The defense is as good this year as it ever has been in the past.. See I deal in reality, most of you obviously deal in highlight reels. Yes bob s makes big hits, do you really think any proffessional football players is intimidated by him????lol not if they want to be in the NFL long..I’d rather have someone on the field making just the play instead of someone always trying to make the highlights on espn, and who has proven he can stay on the field longer.
