Colts (maybe) sign Drew Willy off practice squad, sign that starters will rest?
The Colts chose to use to roster spot available from Anthony Gonzalez being placed on IR to elevate QB Drew Willy to the active roster.
With 5 players either ruled out, or doubtful and another 4 listed as questionable it's no given that the player signed today had no chance to play. At the least the Colts appear to want the option of pulling Peyton while having 2 QBs.
Hat tip to GoHorse88 who caught the move an hour ago.
EDIT: The Indy Star is reporting that DT John Gill was the player signed off the practice squad. (Tip to Coltus in the comments). We'll just have to wait and see on this one.
EDITx2: The Indy Star is reporting (same link as above) that both Willy and Gill were signed. No word yet on the cut made to clear room.

RATS says DT John Gill was signed
and took Gonzo’s empty roster spot

hmmm
Shefter wrong? hmm it’s possible and on this one I hope he is.
I’ll edit.

possibly
Stover could have gotten the boot.
Gill could have bumped some other fringe player since they’ll probably have Brock and maybe Foster taking more work at DE to fill in for Dawson and maybe Mathis/Freeney.

Didn't they have Foster playing some DE last week?
Maybe they liked the way he played, and wanted a player to plug in for his DT snaps?
I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation
Drew Willy makes no sense to me
Unless this is Polian playing mind games ,this move makes no sense, why would you want to backup rookie Painter with another rookie, a veteran like Garcia makes more sense than this, oh in Bill we thrust! please if you are resting healthy starters and lose please back it up with a SB trip or the media will have a field day with you and our Colts.
Anyone have thought on how will be next year for us if we are 1 and done or lose to SD this year again?
Did you read the whole thing
The Star says we signed DT John Gill, not Willy
I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation
ok
But the Star update dont have anything on Willy. One of the sources is wrong or both are right and we are missing a piece of the puzzle.
Well,
you are Mr. Sunshine there.

Indy Star now reporting both have been signed....
but no news on who was released to make room for the second signing.
Surely they're not stupid enough...
To release Stover until Vinny’s at least kicked in one game. Someone will snap him up in an instant.

hmmm Stover is possible. Looking at the other fringe guys… Won’t be Toudouze with CJ hurt, won’t be Ervin Baldwin with how thin they are at DE, could be DeVon Hall, hope it’s not Hart but they are carrying 4 healthy RBs at the moment, doubt it’s Cody Glenn since Session is doubtful and Glenn is the new goalline fullback in addition to playing STs, Santi could be it with Gijon back, but they might want him with the shuffling they’ll have to do on offense without Garçon.

Per Mike Chappell of Indy Star....
The Colts had one open spot on their active roster after placing veteran receiver Anthony Gonzalez on the injured reserve list earlier in the week. It isn’t immediately know what player move they made to create room for both players.
Maybe AV?
I wonder how AV looked kicking in practice. Maybe they IRed him. Even if he’s healthy I hope they’d keep Stover for insurance and also to hide him from Dallas or Baltimore.
After fully participating in
every practice? I don’t think so.

They could get rid of Hart...
It seems like he’s always the guy that’s floating in and out of the roster. If Brown doesn’t recover as expected we could always pick him back up later. If someone were going to snap him up they already would have done one of the other times.

Might be
But if so, I think they pick him back up after the regular season and dump Willy

STer and fullback
he wasn’t even in camp with the team so he’s at the back of the line as far as actually playing in the D goes.

My clue is pointing....
at DeVon Hall. I mean not mine, but those guys ^^

Ugh I had to drop by just when the Trojans score a td.
So, the Colts are being all tricky?
What kind of a QB is this Willy?
he's a bit rigid in the pocket
Never doubt Peyton Manning, he’ll make you look silly
Joseph Addai is a good running back.
Im a douchebag, an asshole, and I'm rarely right.
With Aaron Francisco looking healthy
DeVon hall the 2nd casualty?

Devon Hall cut
http://twitter.com/caplannfl/status/7077877165
With Francisco being healthy, they must have felt the depth in the secondary is good enough without him. Didn’t play bad, wouldn’t be surprised for him to be signed back to the PS.
i thought it first, according to the time stamps..
/cass mode off
:D

i thought it first just didn't say it with those words or on here :).
it was a little suprizing. i just didn’t expect the saftey as we now have only the one guy as depth. but i guess they feel it is enough for now,

thats not true
if you read my post at 11pm EST, it even says WHY i thought it would be Hall.
I’ll repost: Aaron Fransico is now healthy. He’s the 4th Safety/Special Teams ace. Since DeVon Hall was not going to see PT at S/DB and he did nothing on ST but get penalties, it felt like a safe bet.

so...
for my fantasy teams sake… should i play wayne and clark? dont screw me caldwell….
go mavs, go colts, go rangers, go baylor
i would def. play clark!!!!. on wayne i would depending on what your other options are. who are your other WR????
if you have other good options sit him as revis may shut him down or at least make him ineffective for fantasy, otherwise id say play him he will def. be on the field with dallas i feel for the majority of the game unless we are blowing them out adn if we do that you will probably still get points from them while they are out there being part of that

Only if

i have housh as an extra at wr
and jfinley at TE… but it sickens me to sit two of the guys that got me to the finals… if they are gnna play i am gonna play them
go mavs, go colts, go rangers, go baylor
yea if those are your options id def. play wayne and clark, clark i think is going to have a big day as well it is wayne that we dont know but that
very well could be shut down

Clark
should see some big plays if the Colts play the whole game. As much as the Jets blitz, Manning will be goin over the middle a lot. Wayne will probably have a few passes, but I doubt many will be thrown his way. Revis is a beast
Bob Sanders does not play Hide-and-Seek, He plays HIDE and PRAY-HE-DOES-NOT FIND-YOU!

I've benched all of my Colts players in my championship games
not worth the risk. Reggie has a tough matchup anyhow, Clark would be the only one I’d even come close to considering. But I just can’t live with myself playing Reggie and getting 3 snaps.
Never doubt Peyton Manning, he’ll make you look silly
Joseph Addai is a good running back.

i could understand the logic of not playing reggie but why not play clark he will def. be playing some good time at least half the game if not more?
