Game was in control and then they got scared. It’s not like Manning was getting killed out there. He was getting good protection.

caldwell has shown all year that he doesn’t take responsibility for anything.

Every injured player is ‘day to day’. They’ve said multiple times they owe nothing to the NFL or their fans. He’ll dodge all the questions or give some canned response and move on.

We had a chance at winning, and Caldwell decided, “Nah, we are going to lose this one guys.” As evident by pulling a ton of the starters on both offense and defense and that horrible challenge play.

And, in this business, that’s a recipe for disaster. The players wanted to achieve something monumental, and they had their hands tied in the third quarter……I’m about to throw-up because of that stupidity.

Unless they were plying the Steelers of course. That being said, blatantly throwing a game like this is horrible. Not to mention, giving up an undefeated season. I now hope they get their asses handed to them 1st round.

that’s a ridiculous way to look at it. The Colts decided that the risk of losing a key player to injury was greater than the risk whatever you imagine would happen from playing only 2 1/2 quarters of this game.

A win would be meaningless if Peyton has suffered a season ending injury in second half against a defense that is not shy about taking cheap shots. As long as the chance to play in the SB is still alive, nothing else matters.

But we were so close to getting perfect season, Bills game would of been easy, why play the starters for most of the game but let them give the game away?

No team is worse at handling success

than the Colts. They had this game in the bag and then they made a conscious descision to do the most stupid, ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen,……and that’s throw the game. How often do you get to 14-0 to even make an undefeated season a possibility? I’m so disgusted and embarrassed. The great Colt players deserve better than this. I kept reading interviews about Polian saying going undefeated was not important…..but I secretly thought….‘nobody is that stupid to believe that’. Apparently Polian is.

By letting the Jets into the playoffs, you guarantee the Pats or Bengals a win, because the Jets suck and they will lose right away. Why not let a team that could actually help in knocking out your 2 toughest AFC contenders as opposed to a scrub team like the Jets…

A real Colts fan

doesn’t blindly follow whatever the administration says or does. A real fan wants to see his team play hard every game to win. A real fan doesn’t approve of a decision to throw a football game and take out the star players who clearly wanted to be in there. A real fan would know that the fans booing were booing the fact that we were not even trying to win, not because Curtis Painter went on the field. You like half-assed strategies like that? You like seeing the administration basically decide to take the rest of the season off? You’re not a fan at all. This is football. You don’t like intensity and the drive to win games, then maybe you’re better off not watching sports at all.

Of course I want to see my team play hard every game and I did, but just because a decision was made that I don’t agree with doesn’t mean I lose faith or boo my team. In very few situations would I ever Boo the Colts because I am a fan. Why aren’t we celebrating the fact that we just won 23 straight regular season games? Or that Manning became only the 4th QB in NFL history to pass for 50,000 yard and did it faster then any other? Even if we had won this game it wouldn’t have mattered much. Pretty sure that the starters would have played even less next week in the Buffalo cold regardless of the record. I absolutely want to see the Colts win every time they step onto the field but if we take a lose and win a Super Bowl because of that lose then I would much rather see our players sit for a half then give up a Super Bowl. Maybe I just hate focusing on the negative and I know that regardless of what our record is heading into the playoffs that we will be fine. Question my fan hood all you want but I have all the faith in the world and always will that the right decision for the team is always being made regardless of the situation.

This is a disgrace

It’s one thing to rest players, it’s completely different when you literally throw the game. The game is still close, and rather than get a healthy lead and THEN rest up people, Caldwell basically says “I want to lose.” So Caldwell takes a rookie 6th rd QB and basically says, “A historic 19-0 is in your hands because I don’t have a killer instinct today.” Why even dress anyone today? Why not put a head set in Bart Scott’s helmet and let him hear all Tom Moore’s signals?

I know this game is meaningless and that a “rest” strategy was likely, but you can rest and play conservative without laying down for another team. This is football, damn it. You play to win every time you step out there. The season is 17 weeks long, not 15. So now we basically will not play for almost a month since our first team will be resting the rest of the way. Polian says there’s no such thing as momentum or holding onto a killer instinct/competitve edge. Yeah….we’ll see, boss. This strategy better not f***ing screw us again.

There is resting and then there is deliberately laying down and not even trying to win. I’m ashamed, I’ll admit it. Not of the players, because everyone in their played hard, and you could tell the guys not in there wanted to be in there bad. This falls squarely on the administration. All fans in attendance should have their money refunded.

The Superbowl

If the Colts fail to win the Super Bowl this year no one will ever let the Colts forget that they absolutely “gave up.”

I understand the fear of injuries because there are players the Colts can’t afford to lose for the playoffs but watching them just pack it in and get crushed in the last two quarters was painful.

And I don’t think you can discount the benefit of playing well going into the playoffs despite what Bill Polian believes because, at least recently, it’s been the teams playing well down the stretch who’ve had the most playoff success.

Lastly, Curtis Painter.

I understand wanting to get him some “work” but if he’s in the game in the playoffs the Colts aren’t going to win. Whether he’s played a game, two games, a half a game or not at all isn’t really going to make a difference.

The reason is because if that stuff didn’t matter then players wouldn’t have bulletin board material in their locker rooms.

by Gwen on Dec 27, 2009 7:24 PM EST up reply actions

Well.

As an athlete, when you’re performing well and things are going well they seem to continue to go well. When you’re performing poorly well… they seem to continue to go poorly.

I don’t know if that’s momentum or something else but it was true in my experience.

And at this point, the Colts’ only insulation from criticism is winning the Super Bowl. And while Polian and Caldwell may have made this decision but if the Colts don’t win the Super Bowl the lion’s share of the criticism will fall on your quarterback.
