Well, we can still pull this game
It’s not Painter’s fault at all.

The Colts have won in the playoffs after resting more than this and the year they didn’t rest the O looked like ass for 2 1/2 games anyway.
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.
Where any of those games against the broncos lol.
But anyways, i agree. We should rest them, just wish Peyton had 1 more possession.

The worst part of pulling the starters
is that it gives irrational people something to latch onto if we don’t end up winning it all.
No matter what the real reason for us not winning it all, the UNDENIABLY TRUE REASON we lost was because WE RESTID DA PLAYERS!!!!11
polian just likes to spit on the face of fans everywhere who want our players to play isnt that why we're fans cause we want to see our favorite players be in the game

Great Job!
They’ve thrown the game. I’ve lost all respect for Polian and Caldwell. They’ve intentionally thrown this game away. If Manning was playing, we would be winning right now. Game was in control and then they got scared. It’s not like Manning was getting killed out there. He was getting good protection.

The Colts are about to ruin Curtis Painter. Everything he does the rest of the day will be booed, and he’ll be forever known as the guy who threw away the perfect season. It’s not the decision, it’s the timing. This will not end well. If this was Sorgi, I wouldn’t be as upset.

Caldwell is trying to make a statement
That he doesnt care about 16-0
Thing is the Lombardi trophy means nothing but the pride that comes with it, you get nothing else but to be remembered has a great team. Going 16-0 and then winning the lombardi is 10x as good as that at least. So CALDWELL IS AN IDIOT FOR THROWING THIS GAME. LET THEM PLAY DONT THROW THE DAMN GAME

We could be 15-0
And we all know it wouldnt take much to beat the bills, so winning this was all that was left.
I think id rather take a few scrapes then to upset the team like this. Caldwells not letting them even try

So, a no one gives a shit game now, a probably loss next week, a bye before the playoffs and then what? We’re expected to put our offense together and win 3 playoff game in a row???? Eff this…this front office is so paranoid and wussy, no one will be surprised when we get shat on.

I hate it when people talk about momentum
But the players are not going to like Caldwell after this decision. And I dont blame them. If momentum plays any part at all then we are screwed
Who's out there on D?
Cause, if I remember correctly, the past two times we were beaten in the playoffs, an important memeber of the D was hurt (Freeney, Brackett)
"I throw, you catch. It's NOT that hard!"
Peyton Manning, SNL, 2007
Super Mathis is though
And Freeney’s not in as much as he normally would be.
by eltharion_doa on Dec 27, 2009 6:53 PM EST up reply actions
My point being:
if we have decided we don’t want to win this game (pulling our starters on offense) then we need to protect our D too.

why?
caldwell has shown all year that he doesn’t take responsibility for anything.
Every injured player is ‘day to day’. They’ve said multiple times they owe nothing to the NFL or their fans. He’ll dodge all the questions or give some canned response and move on.

lossing is one thing but giving up when your winning is unexeptable. and now we are down two scores

that is why I'm upset as well
We had a chance at winning, and Caldwell decided, “Nah, we are going to lose this one guys.” As evident by pulling a ton of the starters on both offense and defense and that horrible challenge play.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt before the game....
but he proved he deserves all the boos he’s gotten.

And, in this business, that’s a recipe for disaster. The players wanted to achieve something monumental, and they had their hands tied in the third quarter……I’m about to throw-up because of that stupidity.
I've never minded the colts.
Unless they were plying the Steelers of course. That being said, blatantly throwing a game like this is horrible. Not to mention, giving up an undefeated season. I now hope they get their asses handed to them 1st round.

The Colts organization spit on their fans today. You can say what you want and talk about how this is better for a superbowl run… fuck that. Winning this game wouldn’t have damaged their chances of a superbowl even slightly. They won’t have a perfect season or a superbowl because they refuse to go out and JUST WIN.
WAAAAA! People might get hurt!
What the fuck?!
And why should defensive starters like Brackett have to play when Peyton isn’t in? What’s the fucking point. Painter’s dumb ass GAVE this game away almost literally.

Painter is simply stinking it up right now. Like Caldwell said, we play to win, but I believe he abandoned that in the second half.

Of course hes stinking it up
Hes a rookie in his first game. By putting him in your throwing the game. You couldnt of expected him to put up a good performance against the number one defence
Now everytime someone puts Brady ahead of Manning
You can look back at this chance Manning had to seal the deal, but it was taken from him by his own GM an Coach
this is the worst part
the players should have their shot at history and it was just taken from them
I have to say that I have never been this disappointed as a Colts fan before. I’ve been disappointed in losses but at least I knew they were trying. Not today.
im out, im not quitting on the team im quitting on caldwell and polian, becasue our players want to play

than the Colts. They had this game in the bag and then they made a conscious descision to do the most stupid, ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen,……and that’s throw the game. How often do you get to 14-0 to even make an undefeated season a possibility? I’m so disgusted and embarrassed. The great Colt players deserve better than this. I kept reading interviews about Polian saying going undefeated was not important…..but I secretly thought….‘nobody is that stupid to believe that’. Apparently Polian is.

43 teams have won Superbowl trophies

One team had an undefeated season
Can you name that team ?
Everyone knows the 2nd answer but no one recalls the 1st
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
ditto.......tell Polian and Caldwell that.
Manning and the players get it.
So while the Pats and Chargers get red hot....
Why don’t we turn ice-cold at the end of December….This makes no sense at all…at all. I am so frustrated…
By letting the Jets into the playoffs, you guarantee the Pats or Bengals a win, because the Jets suck and they will lose right away. Why not let a team that could actually help in knocking out your 2 toughest AFC contenders as opposed to a scrub team like the Jets…
that's what the Colt's braintrust does.....
derail momentum when you need it most…….idiots.
Yeah if Bill Polian doesn't believe in momentum he is an idiot! This is demoralizing.
It would tantamount to my platoon leader calling us out of the battle when we had the battle won and we just retreat… Tonight the Colts organization retreated and betrayed the entire NFL and especially Colts fans.
If there is one thing about the Patriots I like, they want to win and when they have a chance to win, dammit they do it!
While we are a blessed and privileged organization, I can’t say this bodes well for the organization. Throw away the game? For what?

A real Colts fan
doesn’t blindly follow whatever the administration says or does. A real fan wants to see his team play hard every game to win. A real fan doesn’t approve of a decision to throw a football game and take out the star players who clearly wanted to be in there. A real fan would know that the fans booing were booing the fact that we were not even trying to win, not because Curtis Painter went on the field. You like half-assed strategies like that? You like seeing the administration basically decide to take the rest of the season off? You’re not a fan at all. This is football. You don’t like intensity and the drive to win games, then maybe you’re better off not watching sports at all.
"A lot of times, Kenny, we have no idea what we're doing. But the DEFENSE doesn't know that we don't know what we're doing.....and that's next level." -Peyton Manning
Of course I want to see my team play hard every game and I did, but just because a decision was made that I don’t agree with doesn’t mean I lose faith or boo my team. In very few situations would I ever Boo the Colts because I am a fan. Why aren’t we celebrating the fact that we just won 23 straight regular season games? Or that Manning became only the 4th QB in NFL history to pass for 50,000 yard and did it faster then any other? Even if we had won this game it wouldn’t have mattered much. Pretty sure that the starters would have played even less next week in the Buffalo cold regardless of the record. I absolutely want to see the Colts win every time they step onto the field but if we take a lose and win a Super Bowl because of that lose then I would much rather see our players sit for a half then give up a Super Bowl. Maybe I just hate focusing on the negative and I know that regardless of what our record is heading into the playoffs that we will be fine. Question my fan hood all you want but I have all the faith in the world and always will that the right decision for the team is always being made regardless of the situation.

Bob Sanders does not play Hide-and-Seek, He plays HIDE and PRAY-HE-DOES-NOT FIND-YOU!
This is a disgrace
It’s one thing to rest players, it’s completely different when you literally throw the game. The game is still close, and rather than get a healthy lead and THEN rest up people, Caldwell basically says “I want to lose.” So Caldwell takes a rookie 6th rd QB and basically says, “A historic 19-0 is in your hands because I don’t have a killer instinct today.” Why even dress anyone today? Why not put a head set in Bart Scott’s helmet and let him hear all Tom Moore’s signals?
I know this game is meaningless and that a “rest” strategy was likely, but you can rest and play conservative without laying down for another team. This is football, damn it. You play to win every time you step out there. The season is 17 weeks long, not 15. So now we basically will not play for almost a month since our first team will be resting the rest of the way. Polian says there’s no such thing as momentum or holding onto a killer instinct/competitve edge. Yeah….we’ll see, boss. This strategy better not f***ing screw us again.
There is resting and then there is deliberately laying down and not even trying to win. I’m ashamed, I’ll admit it. Not of the players, because everyone in their played hard, and you could tell the guys not in there wanted to be in there bad. This falls squarely on the administration. All fans in attendance should have their money refunded.

This game wasn't meaningless by any means.
Going undefeated puts a team in a category all it’s own and it was totally within reach. Caldwell robbed them of the chance. How absolutely sickeningly pathetic. I’m disgusted with him.
how about
It’s okay to not think everything is roses and rainbows without having the self-righteous douchebags tell us otherwise. Is THAT ok?
Never doubt Peyton Manning, he’ll make you look silly
Joseph Addai is a good running back.
Im a douchebag, an asshole, and I'm rarely right.
Everything is roses and rainbows
We have homefield advantage and no injuries going into the playoffs

Exactly
This is what bothers me

Guys what is fun is that Bengals dont need to win next game against the Jets
what would happen if we end up losing the playoffs against the Jets"?
Would that make the Jets the 6th seed?
Do you trust the Jets and Sanchez beating either NE or CIN in the playoffs?
The Superbowl
If the Colts fail to win the Super Bowl this year no one will ever let the Colts forget that they absolutely “gave up.”
I understand the fear of injuries because there are players the Colts can’t afford to lose for the playoffs but watching them just pack it in and get crushed in the last two quarters was painful.
And I don’t think you can discount the benefit of playing well going into the playoffs despite what Bill Polian believes because, at least recently, it’s been the teams playing well down the stretch who’ve had the most playoff success.
Lastly, Curtis Painter.
I understand wanting to get him some “work” but if he’s in the game in the playoffs the Colts aren’t going to win. Whether he’s played a game, two games, a half a game or not at all isn’t really going to make a difference.
Hes trying his best
To make it clear he wants to go back in, without throwing a hissy fit like favre would
Recap is up

You know...
I would love for Peyton and some of the players to really lay into Caldwell in the post game conference. Some are too classy to come out but hopefully someone doesn’t let this bullshit just go by . Session is usually pretty outspoken hopefully is let’s Caldwell and Polian know what a couple of gutless fags they are being.
Theres a deal
Caldwell treat the players with respect, they treat him with it. Hes spat in their face, I hope they repay the favour
Yed
and that will make a difference and put a w in the win column

You guys need to get a life
This is a game that has zero impact on whether the Colts get to the Superbowl, and with the rest the starters got, it improves our chances of getting to the big game.
oh believe me man
Momentum does matter. Right now, the Colts are pissed and the fans are pissed.

I'm in the momentum believer category
The reason is because if that stuff didn’t matter then players wouldn’t have bulletin board material in their locker rooms.
Well.
As an athlete, when you’re performing well and things are going well they seem to continue to go well. When you’re performing poorly well… they seem to continue to go poorly.
I don’t know if that’s momentum or something else but it was true in my experience.
And at this point, the Colts’ only insulation from criticism is winning the Super Bowl. And while Polian and Caldwell may have made this decision but if the Colts don’t win the Super Bowl the lion’s share of the criticism will fall on your quarterback.
