Week Sixteen Early Games- Open Thread

The Jaguars v. Patriots, Texans v. Dolphins, and Ravens v. Steelers all feature early game match-ups with significant playoff implications. If the Jags or Steelers lose, they are pretty much out of it. The winner of the Texans v. Dolphins game is still in the mix, but the loser is just about out. So, expect some fierce competition. The Patriots are fighting to secure the #3 seed, and the Ravens very much need to beat the Steelers if they want to hold onto their current #5 spot in the playoffs.

Enjoy this open thread.

4 of the last 5 playoffs

a wildcard team advanced to the first div round so very high odds if the Pats are the ones that survive the wildcard game that they get to play the chargers first

the Titans’ pick was a few picks before the spot ours WOULD have been. Unless you think that there would have been a butterfly effect by not trading for Ugoh that would have caused us to have a pick at or before 23, It just doesn’t seem possible.

Maybe I want the Pats to win, and to be the 3 seed...

That means that they’d necessarily have to go against the Chargers (who have locked up the 2 seed) if they win in the wild card round.

Pats at 3 and Chargers at 2 mean that we wouldn’t face either team until the championship game.

by hahasound on Dec 27, 2009 1:29 PM EST reply actions

therefore:

I hope that the Jaguars lose. That is all.

Luckily, I hate the Jags enough that I can safely root for the Patriots without my soul rotting from the inside out.

Phil B:
He did not say that. The reports on the Internet and ESPN are FALSE. I wasn’t here but 2 minutes today and a Colts PR guy came over to me to advise that Manning hasn’t done any other interviews since Wednesday and that he never said what was being reported as breaking news. I was told that both Caldwell and Manning were not happy about this report being out there. It’s a classic case of somebody throwing stuff at the wall to see if it sticks. I want to see them test Vinny

They need to be 100% sure he’s good to go if they plan on choosing him over Stover in the postseason.

Ervin Baldwin will get some time. Probably some Foster in there. Gill played some DE in preseason.

Damn, I'm late to the party

I’d post a LOLCat to greet everyone, but I don’t have an appropriate one to use. Anyway: San Diego’s got the 2 seed. Anyone see another AFC Championship score settling this year? I’m all for it.

ESPN report

I love how PhilB seems to blame the “false” report about Manning playing on rumors from the internet. The report was from Rachel Nichols at ESPN. Sounds like ESPN found out that Indy plans to play Manning, reported it, and now the Colts are pissed the word got out.

Notice how the PR guy from PhilB's report states

That “Manning has not given interviews since Wednesday.” Who needs an interview to get playing time information? Nichols asked her source, got information, and reported it. So, either Nichols is incompetent, the source is crap, or the Colts are made that very good, very insider news was leaked to a very interested public.

But why would they be angry about that? It's hardly earth-shattering news.

Maybe they’re worried that this could happen with more important info.

And defensive line is the start.

Besides, they could find QB in the 2nd or 3rd which would work out fine, Suh is one-of-a kind.

I feel sorry for New Orleans

At least Indy said they’d rest their players, so they could easily explain away a loss. But N.O. was trying against Dallas, and they came up short. And now, Tampa’s got the coin toss.

Man… anyone else here think they peaked way to early this year?
