Raheem Brocks Tweets about possible Dominic Rhodes return to Colts

Raheem Brock, who is oftentimes hilarious with his Tweets ("Maaaaan! Its cold as sh*t outside! Lol where's my triple fat down goose jacket wit the suede sleeves. Lol"), might have let the cat out of bag about something in his most recent entry:

How nice would it be to have domenic rhodes back returning kicks?? What yall think?

It's been a loooooooong time since Dominic Rhodes returned kicks for Indy (2005). Rhodes was recently brought in for a workout, but was not signed. Rhodes was last on the Buffalo Bills roster, but was cut prior to the start of the regular season. The current kick returner is T.J. Rushing, but he has been battling back from last season's knee injury.

I thought this would be for kickoff

returns which is currently done by Chad Simpson. T.J. has been fine returning punts. I would think that Rhodes would return kicks while Rushing would return punts. Am I missing something here?

That's how I read it, too

How can you not love a team that does this?

by LovinBlue on Dec 3, 2009 6:52 PM EST up reply actions

I don't know

On one hand, I love the prospect of having Dom back in the locker room. On the other, I realize that he would only average about 0.5 more yards than Simpson on kickoffs, and we would also have 5 RB’s on the roster.

by Aerostar193 on Dec 3, 2009 6:54 PM EST reply actions

How do you read Twitter?

It’s just a mess. I can’t tell who is saying what or what it’s in response to. How can you follow a conversation?

by LukeM on Dec 3, 2009 7:15 PM EST reply actions

I don't get it that much either

Plus I can never tell if my replies are received, but at least the ones without “@” and “RT” are easy to read!

It took me a while to figure out what was going on but once you grasp it it’s like reading normal. Kind of weird how that works.

by KingRichard on Dec 3, 2009 8:31 PM EST up reply actions

Could you give us a quick tutorial?

I can’t figure it out either.

Regular tweets look like normal comments. No symbols or linkage. The ones with the funny looking links are just links that Twitter shortens. The tweets with the @ symbols are direct tweets between two people. It’s basically like sending an instant message via Twitter.

It’s really confusing to just sit there and try figuring out what the hell someone is saying back and forth with someone else. So if you are interested following someone on Twitter like Raheem Brock then just pay attention to the tweets without @ symbols at the beginning. However, once you get used to reading this crap it will become easier to understand and you can start paying attention to the conversations, or tweetersations people are having back and forth. I was reading Raheem Brock, Darrell Reid, and some other play and some random chick having a conversation a few months ago. Heh.

by KingRichard on Dec 3, 2009 9:32 PM EST up reply actions

Oh I forgot about this. RT is an abbreviation for retweet, which is like repeat. It’s like forwarding, but for Twitters instead of emails. If you see something really cool from one of the people you follow, you may want to retweet it so that the people following you and not the original person can see it.

This is only useful if you have followers that the original person doesn’t have meaning, if you’ve only got a couple of followers, you probably shouldn’t bother with retweets.

If you’re going to tweet something, and you want it to be retweeted (like if you’re asking for help with something or you want to alert others) then you need to keep it shorter than 140 characters. When someone RT’s you, they’re going to put RT @YourName in front of the space. Like if my Twitter name was @KingRichard, so when people repeat something I said, they’re adding "RT @KingRichard " to the front of the tweet, which adds 11 characters, meaning I gotta keep my tweets at or under 129 characters if I want them retweeted.

RT is just something someone came up with on Twitter. It’s not a Twitter button or command.

Interpret these

RT @Footz95: Tell His Black A$$ I Said Congrats Son RT @RaheemBrock: Congrats to my boy mathis for getn afc defensive player (lol no doubt

RB tweets “congrats…” then Footz95 retweets that comment and adds “tell his…” then RB retweets that (in effect retweeting himself?)

RT @ScottNewsom: @RaheemBrock we need a good punt returner desperately!

Does this mean Scott aimed a tweet at RB instead of just tweeting to nobody? Then RB retweeted it so everyone would see it?

I just don't see how Rhodes could be that much of a help.

And who’s spot would he be taking?

Makes sense,

Plus, maybe Rhodes could give us that spark that we need in the running game. Like say, the way he did during our SuperBowl run?

Brown's injury may be more serious than what we think......

Adding Mike Hart back to the roster and potentially signing Dom back to the team… Don Brown is hurt and will probably miss the game. This is quite obvious.

I like Dom. I think we should’ve tried to keep him after last season. He plays hard and carries an attitude and a chip on his shoulder, which is nice to have going into the last part of the season.

by davis3217 on Dec 3, 2009 7:35 PM EST reply actions

That's what I'm thinking.

Looks suspiciously like Brown may be out for a while.

I do believe I was at that game.

Couldn’t even remember that…

Interesting Factoid: Both Bay Area Team’s #1 Overall QB picks (Smith and Russell) received their first career starts against the colts, and I was at both games. I hope that’s correct, because it’s a pretty cool piece of history if so.

by Talka1ot on Dec 4, 2009 2:27 AM EST up reply actions

Some review says otherwise:

But I really vividly remember JaMarcus in there in the first quarter of that game… Apparently he came out after halftime and lead the team for a quarter. Bah…!

which, coincidentally

was the last game I was unable to watch. I was back in NY for Christmas celebrating at the home of family… couldn’t weasel out of it and go to a bar with Sunday Ticket like I did for Xmas eve the following year.

Not really

It wouldn’t matter if we put Usain Bolt back there since we can’t block. How does one return a kick when you’re surrounded by the other team’s players before you even catch it.

I'd donate a kidney in exchange for Pdiddy and my colts to get 2 more Super Bowl rings...That's LUV

by Bama Blue on Dec 3, 2009 8:00 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I agree

the blocking isnt great, but Simpson has no vision. He seems to run to the places he has no chance of making it through. Get a player back there who has better vision of the feild and I bet we see some balls returned to the 30-40 yard line

by coltsfan723 on Dec 3, 2009 8:04 PM EST up reply actions

We can not get any worse with kickoff and punt returns. I mean come on, last year’s wild-card game was won in part by our terrible field position at the start of each drive. Don’t believe me? Go look it up, I have hw we started damn neer every drive inside the twenty or ten yard line! DRAFT A RETURN SPE IALIST AND WE WILL BE UNSTOPABLE!

by Coltstar18 on Dec 3, 2009 8:13 PM EST reply actions

I've always loved Dom.

I’d love to see him come back. Just get us to the 30 and hang onto the ball, is all I ask. Then Dom can retire a Colt!

Someone suggested that ball security (from an expendable player) is why Simpson is the KR

I could buy it after he shook off all those strip attempts against the Texans.

He has 1 fumble in 75 NFL touches (Runs+Recs+Returns)
adding in preseason he has 2 in 109 touches (1 per 55 touches)

Small sample so no solid conclusions from it, but for comparison.

Adrian Peterson, 1 per 47 touches
Steve Slaton, 1 per 49 touches
Dom Rhodes, 1 per 71 touches
Edge James, 1 per 79 touches
Joseph Addai, 1 per 239 touches

I’ll try to dig up Simpson’s college stats, but no promises

Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.

It's shocking how much can slip your perception

Even your eyes lie

That's the only reason I think hes back there

that and we cant really out anyone else back there for risk of injury.

by coltsfan723 on Dec 3, 2009 8:46 PM EST up reply actions

Dom is the man.

I wonder why we signed Hart over Dom. Dom is 30 now (old for a RB)….but has always ran hard and blocked well for us, I will always remember the Super Bowl against the Bears. Now I am definitely worried about Brown’s injury. He is fairly small for a RB in the NFL (210 LBS).

by coltsgolfbeer on Dec 3, 2009 8:30 PM EST reply actions

I know

He seems a bit fragile, and the colts have a reputation for drafting great, fast, light, and sometimes brittle player, Cough Bon Sanders Cough

by Coltstar18 on Dec 3, 2009 8:33 PM EST up reply actions

Dom's old

but he was never a workhorse back, he doesn’t have the kind of mileage on his tires, and he’s always been really durable. A classic colt, none of us would mind having him back.

by slash196 on Dec 4, 2009 3:52 AM EST up reply actions

I doubt

he offers any KR skills.

True

.. but wouldn’t it be nice IF we got the superbowl and james was on the roster and managed to get his own ring? And then retire a colt?

His skills are not what they were, but I wish he could come and teach Addai the stiff arm he used to use..

An expert is someone who knows more and more about less and less until they know everything about nothing...

by bluegirl on Dec 4, 2009 6:36 AM EST up reply actions

Not so sure honestly

When I’ve seen him run, he’s run well. He was a BIG part of the Card’s superbowl run and could’ve made a solid case for MVP if they would have stuck with him, he was tearing up the steelers.

by slash196 on Dec 4, 2009 8:36 AM EST up reply actions

2005 was a long time ago in Football years. I’m gonna pass on Rhodes.

But I would love another option than TJ Rushing on kick off returns.
