Any Ideas???

i have been thinking quite a bit about how we have been getting even more frequent posts on journalism and that some don't really like reading it. here is a possible solution and i think it is a good one.

i know many of us are very busy and don't get on often so i don't know how this would work but i think we can find a few willing to follow through and do something for the site. my idea is that we can get a few regular posters for fanposts that are willing to do a post maybe once a week that can be promoted to the front page. i know i during the college season have done a college thread and that Peyton the best does a better job than i do on mine with here weekly power rankings which i think is awesome and a great one to get put on the front page and is around mid week already.

so i am just wondering if some of you viewers have ideas for posts that we can do weekly or if you willing to maybe do one. lets first thought start with ideas, i know people like marked Hoosier love lolcats so mabye even just a thread dedicated some time during the week solely for that as a contest or something (yes i know yo all do them all the time anyway and that's fine still :) ). maybe even a some media content on what they are saying about the up coming matchup? anyway love to here your ideas and see where we can go with it i know we have some creative people on this site the best blog around.

so lets here what you got???

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

I think this is a good idea. I’ve criticized the inclusion of tons of bad journalism posts, but I have not contributed anything myself. I’m a hypocrite, and don’t have time to actually write anything, at least until summer (stupid grad school) but I would love to throw out some ideas.

I would love to see an injury comparison of injuries by number and importance around the league. I feel like the colts are banged up, but I know a ton of major players are also missing on rival teams. (that little known pittsburgh guy, benson, ronnie brown…) I’m curious if we are still more injured then other teams.

I would love for someone with DVR capability to do a “play of the week” type analysis. Breaking down a play where you noticed something unique or particularly colts tastic. Not something like “oh garcon caught it with one hand…sweet” but something like, watch adai pancake a linebacker. ’

I never get tired of playoff scenarios. Someone could try and solicit feedback from other key teams to see their expected totals for the rest of the year.

I also wouldn’t mind seeing some coverage of other teams. I know this may be blasphemy, but I enjoyed the “which player from the pats” would you take game. I think it would be fun to see which players in the league would fit in the colts system, or, even to just talk about our favorite non colts players, non-colts teams. On that note, everyone knows who the most hated team is, but i’m curious who the colts next-favorite team is?

Anyway, if anyone wants to go with these idaes, I would be super happy and will rec the crap out of it.

problem with getting feedback from other teams is thats how you get a SBnation wide ban

cause it is an automatic ban as it assumes you a spammer

Here's an Idea...I thought of it all by myself to

if you don’t like the post. DON’T READ IT. It saves you from having to read it, and it saves the people who do read and post comments from having to read the endless bitching about the article! Easy right?

Its possible because

most everyone on here bitches about one person and one person only…BBS. And most of his media hate articles clearly state in the title of his post he’s gonna complain about the media. If you see something negative about the media in the title and you see BBS as the poster then just don’t read it.

I've already thought...

There are some excellent fanposts that should be been front-paged, from weekly posts (ex.: Power Rankings) to sporadic one-shotters (ex.: Why The Colts Really Won and the State of the Rivalry ). The fact is this isn’t like some of the other SBNation blogs in the respect that it doesn’t often front-page posts that are from non-staff writers. When they are given the honor, rarely are they left in their original format, but are instead copiously edited, “absorbed” into an article of BBS’s writing, or completely rewritten and given a “thanks for the tip” to their original posters. Now, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with this, it is after all, BBS’s site and he can do with it what he wishes, but I think if there were going to be articles written by or suggestions for content given by someone other than the guys listed at the bottom of the page it would have happened by now.

by peytonsurdaddy on Dec 4, 2009 10:27 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Dude...

I don’t want to rain on your parade, but there are already some pretty good fanposts every week already and they very rarely get put on the front page. This is BBS’s blog and he writes about what he wants to write about and right now that seems to be mostly foamy-mouthed rants about media conspiracies to keep the Colts from getting their due in mainstream ball-washing. This is only going to change when he wants it to and when that happens it’s not going to be at the behest of a bunch of LOLcat posting internet junkies. That’s the great things about having a blog. You can write about anything you want on your blog.

by peytonsurdaddy on Dec 4, 2009 10:57 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That's my point...

There already are a lot of good fanposts and they almost never make the front page. Why exactly do you think this is going to change? I don’t get it.

by peytonsurdaddy on Dec 4, 2009 11:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

idk mabye it wont but who cares if it doesn't at least we are doing something to try and contribute and mabye we can

see if BBS will be willing to just upgrade a series thing if it is good instead of just he runs into things then he will mabye. i get it if you want to just assume nothing will ever change but nothing will if you dont do something to try and change what you dont “like”

GO COLTS!!! 09 IS OURS!!!

by TheAngelsColts on Dec 4, 2009 11:18 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think you understand...

Example: The Power Rankings weekly post is well done, looks professional, gets lots of hits and is informative. MANY other SBNation sites have them on their front pages weekly. This is now Week 13 and it has not once been front-paged. It will probably never be front-paged because BBS doesn’t want to put it there. There is no changing it just because you don’t like it. The kind of change you’re suggesting is akin to me going in your house and telling you that I think you should start buying Pepsi instead of Coke because I like Pepsi more and I’m thirsty. You would then say “If you like Pepsi then next time you come over I suggest you stop and pick up a Pepsi on the way.”
It would be crazy for me to expect not only for you to start stocking your fridge with Pepsi, but to replace the drink you like with the drink I like entirely.
Not going to happen. Just be happy he’s letting you sit on his couch.

Dude

If the FanPosts are so “good,” why don’t you rec them? If you do, then you should encourage others to rec them. FanPosts that receive 5 recs go to the top of the FanPost list, and FanPosts that offer a unique opinion on something very often get promoted to the FP.

Personally I rec FanPosts all the time....

Especially if they inspire a comment from me. IMO, the front page stuff is kind of stale of late. I get all the open thread stuff, but to an old fart like me I’m not much into sitting at my computer and watching a game at the same time. Call me old school. But, I’ve also noticed I spend a whole hell of a lot more time on Fanposts. I read this blog every day, but the offseason articles were much better on the front page. Just an old farts opinion, ya know? ;-)

I agree...

I’ve also been spending more time reading fanposts lately than the front page fare.

by peytonsurdaddy on Dec 5, 2009 11:46 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

umm

“unique opinion” and “very often” are relative.
I would say it very rare, even if a post is rec’d 15 times.

by yellowsnow on Dec 5, 2009 10:41 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Hey, buddy...

I’m on your side here. I happen to think this is your blog and you can do whatever the hell you want with it. Personally, I like things the way they are for the most part. When a fanpost is rec’d up it stays at the top of the fanpost section for longer than any of the content on the front page anyway (depending on your account settings, of course). For most people, other than aspiring writers, front-paging someone’s post is just an ego stroke anyway.
As far as rec’ing stuff goes, I rec stuff all the time, as do a lot of people who frequent this site. There are always plenty of rec’d fanposts and the rec’d fanpost section frequently has several front-page-worthy pieces in it. “A Dichotomy: The Colts Offense and Defense” has been rec’d 21 times and is unique and well written. By your own stated criteria it should be front-paged. I mean no offense, but when was the last time any of your articles were even rec’d 5 times?
None of this bothers me, personally, but just tell it like it is. This is your blog and you’ll put what you want where you want it. Don’t try to blow smoke by suggesting there’s some sort of “merit system” for articles or “suggestion box” for ideas. Hey, at least it’s not Baltimore Beatdown. Not only does that Bruce guy write every single front page article himself he doesn’t even let them have fanposts as he fills all of those up with crap too. I’m starting to think he may be addicted to crystal meth (joking).
So, keep doin’ what you’re doin’ and hopefully you’ll get the MSM-bashing out of your system soon. I, like many others, may be getting a little bored with some of the less football-oriented opinion/hit pieces you’ve been writing lately about the MSM, but, hey, whatever gets the hits, right?

It would be nice to have a profile on every player on our team once a week.

Maybe also the coaches, including some of the lesser known ones. That would take the entire year to do and some research, but it doesn’t have to be one person. Get their career stats, some highlight videos, old articles, etc. Get to know your Colts kind of thing.

I would also like a reader profile. I know King was supposed to do a mail box thing, but maybe instead a little email interview type deal, with maybe a picture and some select quotes and links to great content produced by that reader. This is a community and letting people into the minds of the people who make it what it is could do nothing but add to the loyalty this site enjoys.

I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation

Interestingly enough I was just thinking about this the other day. The first time I announced I was going to do this some asshole signed me up for a ton of spam mail so I had to stop using that email account which also means I lost any and all emails from posters here.

If you want to be the next person to do it send an email to my address that’s in my profile, I’ll come up with some ideas and get the ball rolling again.

I'm happy with the site just the way it is.

There are so many fanshots and posts and front page stories I have a hard time keeping up sometimes.
I’ve written fanposts in the past, and come to realize my writing skills aren’t good enough for a weekly thing. I just post when I think of something I really want to share.
PLUS- I hope people like my Colts/Peyton Wallpaper that I post on fanshots! I think that’s MY unique contribution.

"You can't defend the perfect throw, what can I say?" Peyton quoting Marino

by Indy Lori on Dec 5, 2009 11:25 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I have to agree with Lori

I think the site is doing fine. Someone posted the comment earlier basically saying, if you dont like it, dont read it! I would like to echo that thought

I could really give a crap less where a good post ends up on the site.

I think just having a place like Fanposts, and Fanshots is a pretty awesome thing on its own. If I post something up (I know its rare) and people like it, it will get rec’d and moved to the top of the list. That is more than good enough for me. I really dont think having a new rule that says “badass fanposts/fanshots get moved to the front page” will make the site better.

I do however really like some of the ideas mentioned above. It would be awesome to see an occasional player profile with some tidbits you may not know about said player, or even the “getting to know the regular posters” idea was pretty awesome. Even though I dont make 230 comments a day, you can bet your bottom dollar I am here and surfing through posts, threads, and comments every single day. It would be cool to know a little more about the other posters Ive come to expect to see here.

My only gripe is this. MAKE THINGS YOU POST READABLE. You could be giving me step by step directions to a hidden treasure box full of Colts season tickets for the next 10 years, but if I cant make it 2 sentences into the message you are trying to convey because my brain is smoking and on overload, I wont continue reading. Its much easier to read something that is well thought out, and grammatically average even if its blabbering on about something I dont give a crud about. Now I dont have the best English, but I try not to make things I put out there look like I was beating my face into the keyboard to get the words up there I wanted.

Do you guys know we’re playing the Titans this week!?!?!??!!!?!??! GO COLTS!

I’m just basically saying that if a poster is willing to spend some of his/her personal time to contribute, thats awesome. Maybe just take the extra 5 minutes to proof read what you put out there. Its a shame to see posts that if you read aloud to someone, they would wonder if you were an escaped mental patient or heavily medicated.
