Question about Saints and all their... Crap?

Mmk. If anyone's read more than one or two of my posts,(i never stop talking, so i know you probably ignore my posts =[ haha) you can tell i don't like the Saints. Really done.

Here are some quick notes as to why:

-Overrated. Theyre great. No doubt GREAT. but not like ive heard from some "experts"

-Ppl think Drew Brees is divine. The guy deserves credit from being undersized, but it doesnt make him better because he has to try harder.

-They make them better than they are because they are a "feel-good" story and saved N.O. Gratz on helping the city. But again, it doesnt make you better.

-Biggest Reason: Their head coach, OMG, i swear this guy looks like he puts on WAY too much Mascara!! Jeez!! He looks like a Gothic freak! Hint: Commercials may say otherwise, but i think mascara is for woman, and vampires can pull it off.

Ok so onto my post. I have a few questions for you guys. And i need to know if i have a point, or if its my biased hating for that organization...

1.Is the Hype-Performance ratio very out of proportion? As in they get credit for a perfect game(hype) : and only do a little better than INDY, who played like middle schoolers for the better part of 45 minutes.(performance)

2. Where does that "Who Dat?" or "C'mon Man!" crap come from? Is this Football, or lets get in some chessy idiotic lines in while this team runs out its soon to inevitably end run. So i guess im saying, is why is this team's record going past the sport?

3. Does anyone else but me think that if this team has to face adversity against a real team, needing a comeback, that it will fall short? They have never faced any kind of trouble, and the Pats are the first were the first "team" they faced in my opinion. And they got em in early on some lucky breaks and a poor performance by NE. (i will add though, a good performance, although again overrated, by Brees) Also, im not comparing this team to Indy or to anyone. This is a strictly Saint-hate post =] =]

4.Final question, does anyone else but me think that their over hype-ness will lead to terrible distraught for the whole nation when they find out the truth about the Saints?

Ok, so if you guys could answer my questions, great! Even better, if you could answer them in the 1-4 format i asked them.

My thoughts

The media can be a strange, bipolar (not exactly the right word) animal. On the one hand, they still desperately want to believe that the Patriots are the best team ever, and on the other they are looking for the new kid on the block. They’ve found that new kid in the Saints, especially after their beat-down of the Patriots.

It’s a feel-good story for whom you can be assured someone in Hollywood is already writing the script… a city that was absolutely devastated by semi-natural disaster, a local economy that was already fragile crushed by the disaster plus economic downturn, finally has something – however unimportant in the grand scheme of life – to hang on to and cheer about. For that, and for the fact that the Saints have indeed been winning their games, I don’t begrudge the media their fascination.

Do I think people will jump off bridges if the Saints are “exposed”? Yes, but only because the media will immediately redirect everyone’s attention to the Pats.

How can you not love a team that does this?

Wow

I’m not even sure how to respond to this except I’m a big Peyton Manning fan due to his father. Just like i’m a big Brett Favre fan becaause i live on the ms. gulf coast where he’s from.
Weather you think the Saints are over hyped or not we are 11-0 just like the colts so good luck against tenn. and we will see who’s 12-0 on sunday

Most Colts fans like the Saints just fine. I'm sure you can see that by the majority of the posts.

Good luck to you guys on getting 16-0. Looks like you’ll need it to win the conference.

The Saints are fine by me.

Good win today. That was a potential letdown game, and the Saints found a way to pull it out.

Disagreed...

Staints should have lost! A 23 yard FG?!? Really? If Washington could kick the ball that game would have never gotten to OT. THAT’S winning Lucky! Suisham makes that kick and it’s a 10 point game with 1:40 to go. Brees is no Manning! Not going to happen. There should only be one undefeated team.

by emiller17 on Dec 6, 2009 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

That's exactly the same sort of line

We crucified the media for using against us earlier. We “should have lost” to New England, Houston twice, Baltimore, and that’s just in the last five weeks.

You win however you get it. The Saints got the win, they deserved it. This isn’t college football, you don’t get style points.

by eltharion_doa on Dec 7, 2009 1:25 AM EST up reply actions

I disagree, at least partially.

Missing a 23-yard field goal in the NFL would be considered by most to be a ‘fluke’. Such a kick is made by a field goal kicker over 95% of the time… the ’Skins were just very unlucky in that case, and the Saints were especially lucky.

In the Colts-Pats game, I don’t think that you can point to any particular play that was a ‘fluke’.
Belichick’s fourth-down call? It was a calculated gamble, which had a success rate somewhere in the 65% range. Otherwise, the story of that game was that Peyton Manning absolutely picked the Pats’ defense apart in the fourth quarter, which is part of the reason why Manning has the legend surrounding him that he does.

by hahasound on Dec 7, 2009 10:58 AM EST up reply actions

This is a bit much

The Saints and Brees are good stories, for sure, but I don’t know that they’re really being too hyped right now. They are 11-0 after all. And Brees almost set the passing yards record last year. Plus, he went to college in this state, so we should feel some sort of affection for him (and I’m saying this as an IU grad, only because our football team is irrelevant).

As for facing adversity, they had had comebacks this year. Off the top of my head, I remember Miami should have beat them and the Saints came back to win that one. Maybe that’s the only actual comeback but they have had some tough games too.

Look, there really isn’t all that much to hate about the Saints unless you hate feel-good stories (and in this over saturated media world, that’s understandable). But Brees really is a great guy who’s had to overcome some physical limitations to become one of the best QB’s in the league. Colston was nearly the last pick in the draft at a position that is usually highly drafted. The city really did go through hell and is still in recovery. And for everyone who hates USC, Bush is becoming more expendable game by game.

If the Colts have to share the undefeated spotlight with another team, I’m not sure there’s anyone else I’d rather share it with.

"If you don't [draft me], I promise you I'll come back and kick your ass for the next 15 years."

Answers to Karim

Yes, your bias is messing up your perception.
1. Saints have only had a few perfect games, but their most perfect game was against the Pats on national tv. This helps them out. They performed their best on the biggest stage so far this season. They also pounded the Giants when the Giants were still hot and were everyone’s pick to win the NFC. The Saints have actually done their best against the best teams. That deserves some hype.
2. The Who Dat has been a Saints thing for as long as I can remember. They’ll not be giving it up even if their team sucks. It has always been there. It has nothing to do with success, it’s just part of their identity. Obviously a Saints fan can explain it better.
3. They’ve faced adversity and done fine. They faced a huge deficit in their Miami game and came back by the will of force. Same in the Carolina game, when their defense sealed the deal. They’ve had a few comebacks as well and they’re also a great frontrunner. They also have had their share of injuries. All of that is adversity. Their 11-0 is just as impressive or more so than ours. They’ve beaten four teams w/ a winning record and all of them convincingly.
4. No, the whole nation still hasn’t made them the superbowl favorite. I see most people picking the Vikes out of that conference, just like they’re picking anyone but the colts from the AFC. They really don’t have the hype say the 07 Pats had.

Saints being perfect doesn’t make the Colts any less perfect. I’ll be rooting for them to go undefeated just like I’ll be rooting for us do the same (but we won’t as we’ll start resting.)

The 'Aints are my second favorite team

I lived in LA until I moved to IN in ‘96 so I suffered enough in my fan-dom, lol. Also I went to Purdue so I’m a big Drew Brees fan. That said, I do not believe Brees is overrated in the slightest. You don’t come one pass short of setting the passing record in a single season and be a slouch. And the GMs and Payton are doing a terrific job over there finding veteran players that no one wants and having them play an intricate role. That’s one thing I wished the Colts could do better.

If Coach of the Year could go to a coordinator it needs to go to their Defensive Coordinator Greg Williams (it is Greg Williams right? I’m too lazy to google it and check). He has done a terrific job turning a bad defense into a respectable one, one that can score points and get the offense back onto the field.

All in all, I believe that Saints are getting the right about of respect and press coverage and I would be ecstatic if both teams met in the Super Bowl (undefeated or not) and I would not be sad about the outcome of that game either way it goes.

Especially since they're in the NFC,

I have no problem with them being THAT good. And they are good.

I think you are biased against the in your analysis.

The colts and saints are tied together in a number of ways and you should be glad that the saints are receiving the press goodwill that they are.

We both love our mannings.
We both are small market teams that have been ignored for most of our existence.
The cities don’t have anything other than our football team to be proud of. Cmon, when was the last time you thought of indy w/o thinking the colts next to it.
We both start cerebral, talented, winners at QB.

Tearing down the saints is unnecessary. They are an excellent team, they may not win the superbowl, but we may not win it either. There is a lot of football to be played. I am not in the least bit offended that the saints are getting a lot of favorable press. They have earned it.

Okay, 1 - 4

1. Yeah, they are probably overhyped, but keep in mind that they have sucked hind tit for a lot of years. Everyone (except you) loves an underdog.

2. The answer to Who Dat? Was damned near the Redskins. Failing that, Dat will be the Colts come Super Bowl.

3. They came back today. Not really heart stopping, but they had enough character to win. I wouldn’t say they were lucky against New England, that was just a plain old fashioned ass whippin’.

4. The whole nation? With everything going on in the nation right now, I doubt it seriously, it’s a football game for cripes sakes.

by tim55 on Dec 6, 2009 5:13 PM EST reply actions

I don't think the Saints are overhyped

We’re flying under the radar, somehow. Undefeated teams having smashed good sides like the Patriots should be getting hype, this is the NFL, it’s bloody hard to win 5 straight, let alone 12. The Saints deserve all the press they’re getting.

Now the Favres, they’re overhyped.

by eltharion_doa on Dec 7, 2009 1:26 AM EST reply actions

You're obsessing about the Saints makes no sense to me.

They are no threat to us if or until we meet them in the SuperBowl.
