King gushes on Manning in his All-Decade NFL celebration

He names Manning the player of the decade and the QB on his all-decade team. No other Colts are selected (he put Aaron Smith on it ahead of Freeney, which stunned me), except for Vinatieri, but that's probably for his deeds as a Patriot.

Bill Polian was given the GM of the decade.

Pats fans will be up in arms, but he gave the Pats best Franchise of the Decade, gave Pioli best personnel man (does he even know that Pioli is now running that wreck in KC) and even the 2007 Pats the best Team of the Decade, which I found especially humorous. I would have been fine if he gave it to the 2004 Pats, but giving it to a team that didn't win teh Super Bowl is hilarious. I would have waited for this season to end, because if either the Siants or Colts win the Super Bowl, I'm guessing they can make a case for team of the decade.

I think the little rodent running in a wheel to power PK's brain got derailed

After picking Manning he then went and undid it all by saying “if the pats get hot and win the SB then Brady is in no question.” WTF? Team accomplishment for the pouty sulkapotamus whose team does not want to play hard. 11,000 more yards for Manning, like 80 more TDs, and he’d still put Brady in if his TEAM won it all, regardless of how Tommy Boy does. That right there undermines any credibility that fat a-hole might have in my mind.

No Freeney? He ever heard of the FF stat? Ugh, at least he didn’t further blaspheme by putting in Peppers instead. Hines Ward ahead of Marvin? (and a couple others) I dunno….. maybe if 1999 was included 88 would have made it.

I hate rubber-stamping Mawae. (just like, it seems, the Colts DL just plain dislikes him).

Good call on BB, Polian, Pioli. Vinatieri? I don’t hink so. Again, four rings, but not the top body of work to support an all-decade nod. Devin Hester might have a legit gripe against Dante Hall, but I suppose Hall has more years in. Anybody else ever hear of his ST ace from AZ? Me neither.

Or, a little grosser...

On his Twitter account

Someone asked him if his opinion about the Team of the Decade would change if the Colts went on to win the Superbowl and here is his response:

“RT @DougzInBoston: If Colts win SB are they team of decade? … Not to me. Pats’ 3 SBs, 4 fewer reg-season wins would trump Indy.”

by bobzilla3 on Dec 8, 2009 4:33 PM EST reply actions

But look at the question

“If Colts win SB”, not “If Colts go 19-0”. Did nobody think to ask it or did King cherry-pick the easier question?

In the end the Colts vs Pats question always comes down to cherry picking. Both teams are close enough in greatness that there are plenty of ways to argue for whichever one is your favorite.

Could have been a slam dunk...

had Edge not been hurt in 2001. That 6-10 probably stains the Colts in the discussion. However, probably no chance Freeney is here without that season.

by GonzoBlue on Dec 8, 2009 4:43 PM EST reply actions

Sigh...

You’re right about Edge’s injury and Freeney at Pick #11. Take the good with the bad, I guess.

W/o that injury, Edge would be a surefire HOFer—He had 662 yards in six games and hadn’t even finished the last one. Call it 700 yards in six games, then add ten more games! Give him 1,700 yards that season and then 1,500 for his next one (the recovery year in which he ran for about 990) and then just the same years he had after that. Basically eliminating that injury is adds a very reasonable 1,500 yards (total) to those two seasons and ups his career YPC, YPG, YP season, total yards, TDs, scrimmage yards, all-pro years, consecutive pro bowl years, etc. Would that have moved him into the top-5? People this weekend would be talking about LDT being maybe a worthy carrier of Edge’s flame, rather than Jim Brown’s….

Okay, so we get Freeney; nice consolation prize.

Thanks for the link.

I’ve never heard anyone call Peyton the Commandant before. Nice.

Now that I re-read some of his drivel

Since King gives the 2007 Pats the best team of the decade (based on accumulated stats of domination), even though they did not win their SB, I guess that makes the Colts the best team of 2004, 2005, and maybe 2007…? Just asking.

Since we're speaking of the media and Peyton,

Did anyone else here, hear what Tony Dungy said about Peyton on Sunday’s Football Night in America? He was asked again who he would vote for for MVP. His answer was Favre. Then when asked again why, Dungy said he would have picked Peyton, but he wasn’t allowed to talk about Peyton any more. WEIRD.

You really think he was joking?

I can never tell. It didn’t seem that way to me. You could be right. Dungy is very wooden on live TV.

Peyton asked him to stop talking about him.

I have a feeling that it has more to do with his breaking down Peytons calls before the snap than anything else.

Dungy mentioned that he would vote for Favre for MVP the week before last, tho.

i really can’t believe that he gave the steelers colts playoff game of 2005 best playoff game non superbowl

how the hell do you NOT pick the 06 pats colts game, the biggest comeback in championship history. i know why, because king is a patriots homer. I honestly would have picked that game even if i wasn’t a colts fan, just for the drama and intrigue. instead you pick a game that was affected by a pissed off girlfriend and a missed fg.

Yeah

that made no sense.

I also don’t understand his (and really everybody’s) love of Super Bowl XLIII as the greatest super bowl. He claimed on twitter that it was the best 60 minutes of football. Strange, because that 3rd quarter lulled me to sleep. If I had to pick, the one at the start of the decade, Super Bowl XXXIV is my favorite.

Same here,

but my favorite is still the Giants-Pats Super Bowl.

I remember the media talking about how great Super Bowl XLIII was

but to me it was a snooze fest. The only interesting thing that happened was the Harrison pick, but even that play wasn’t that great. I agree with Cass, Giants-Pats Super Bowl is definitely the best one this decade because what was at stake.

Peyton Manning makes it Wayne on them hoes!!!!

by KMR24 on Dec 9, 2009 11:28 AM EST up reply actions

I agree, what was at stake makes it a better game

it was essentially slightly better of a game than Super Bowl XLIII, but the historical perspective of the upset and the Pats going for perfection makes it better.

Not to give myself a shameless plug, but I did a top-15 playoff games list on my blog ( – there it is, the shameless plug) I gave Super Bowl XLII second, and Super Bowl XXXIV number one. I just remember that game being extremely entertaining from start to finish, and each year when NFL Network replays it, I feel the same way.
