Hunter Smith likely not returning to Colts

It was really reported here first by one of our readers (slider09), but it seems the Colts are allowing Hunter Smith to test the free agent market. Translation: Hunter Smith is no longer a Colt:

The team has informed its veteran punter it won't offer him a new contract, allowing him to hit the NFL's free-agent market Feb. 27. Smith voided the final year of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the month. Advertisement Quantcast

"The door isn't closed for him to return, but they are not going to keep him off the market,'' Tom Mills, Smith's agent, said Tuesday afternoon. "When we chose to void the final year of Hunter's contract, we certainly knew this was a possibility.

"Hunter was prepared for this eventuality and he's OK with it.''

Big props to slider09 for his insider info on this.

You know...

You know when the biggest news coming to the point where the majority of teams have made significant moves, free agency is about to start, and the deadline for the franchise tag has almost passed and the only information that is significant is about your punter….

I’ll let you all finish the rest of that run on sentence.

Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

That makes me nervous!

The franchise tag time limit is up tomorrow, isn’t it?

Ugh.

I love how they wait ’til the last minute…

Has there been anymore news on Hayden? I would expect him to be franchised based on what Polian said last week. Of course, my first pick for the tag would be Saturday…but, I’m not objective when it comes to him.
