Kelvin Hayden gets 5 years, 43 million
The contract has 22.5 million guaranteed.
The Indy Star's Mike Chappell reports the 2009 cap charge will be between 6 and 7 million.

Yay!
Then we can at least franchise Saturday until a deal gets worked out.

I just got done watching the NFL replay of Supe XLI. Hayden deserves that money just for that pick-6. It also made me nostalgic for awesome Addai runs.
Cap Space
Now what does that do to the Colts cap space? Are they over or close because I keep hearing about how the cap is really stretched right now. So, what does this really mean cap wise?
Ugh
This deal definitely complicates things for us on the Dunta Robinson front. Just another benchmark deal that he and his people will point to tomorrow when they’re negotiating down to the franchise deadline. Sigh.

Dunta
He had a lot of injury problems so the Texans can point to that

Yeah, that’s part of the problem. He’s only had one injury problem, but it was a huge one… and in his mind, the contract he’s seeking is for the player he believes he WILL BE next season, rather than the player HE WAS in 2008, which was a guy who was only playing at about 85% after that horrible injury he sustained.
In a way the franchise tag would be the best scenario for the Texans, because it would give the team a year to see if he really can justify a top corner contract like he thinks he should get now.
Anyway – not to bother you guys with Texans stuff – but the Hayden contract is certainly relevant.

Hayden's deal isn't top 5
the Indy Star writer put it’s cap hit as 6-7million. That puts it as the 8th or 9th highest, which means it only effects the transition tag, not the franchise.

that signing was a must!
congrats bill polian and the colts for getting it done while other teams look like fools and their stars are walking.
I think they do need to somehow keep saturday. when your best player states how important he is to the offense (no.18) something needs to be done to accomodate him. and I do believe peyton knows what is best for the team
Exactly
I don’t think he’ll (Saturday) be unreasonable…I just really don’t.
And I also believe that Peyton pretty much gets what he wants. At least, I hope so. :)

Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.
