Jeff Saturday re-signs with the Colts
Looks like that extra cap space helped the Colts keep the best center in football in a Colts uniform (tip to colts9318rock):
The Indianapolis Colts agreed to a new three-year contract with center Jeff Saturday tonight, averting losing a longtime offensive cornerstone.Terms were not immediately available, but Ralph Cindrich, Saturday’s agent, confirmed the transaction.
This comes a few hours after NFL.com's Adam Shefter reported that the Colts had told Saturday they would not re-sign him. Now, I'm not going ot sit here and blast Shefter or anything. He is one of the better guys who cover the NFL, and does a great job on NFL Network. I've partied with Adam. Great guy to talk to. Very approachable.
But I must admit that today I am VERY happy he (and his sources) were incorrect.

ok
thank you for finding an article about the Bucs center Jeff Faine that was published almost a year ago. I came here because Google fucking sucks. Thought you could help. Guess not

google is how I do it.
I’m sorry for the dickish reply(s), but as I bitched in the fanpost on Saturday I’ve got a nice migraine going, reading anything over a few sentences is tough.

Cut him some slack would you?
There was no reason to act that way towards shake, who everyone here usually abuses with his vast knowledge and/or “Googling” skills.
It's not that much
I forget the number, I was looking it up awhile back to see the discrepancy between the OL in general and centers when I was wondering about franchising him. He’d be considered one of the highest paid centers if he made like 5 million/yr. They’re ridiculously underpaid at the position.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.
NICE
I’ve had a ridiculously long week. This definitely makes it better.
Contract
Jeff Faine is the highest paid center in the NFL, making just over 6 million a year. If thats any indication, the cap jump is the only reason Jeff will be back in a Colts uniform. Good news.
This is great
In veiw of all the “Saturday’s gone” stuff I have been reading, this is fantastic news. Especially for his understudies, who’ll receive some great schooling for when their turn comes around.

So glad, he deserves it
He played lights-out this year, came back from a tough injury to help save our season. Great guy.
That picture you have in your mind of 18 hammer-locking Irsay's arm....
Yeah that one. Now you know why.
And the next time you see them in a photo together and Irsay has one arm about 2 inches longer than the other while Manning has a sh!t-eating grin… same thing.
1) I hope we did not break the bank because his departure is inevitable within a few years
2) Clearly 63 is important to our O production
3) This is a bit out of character in light of his age and the fact that his nominal replacement is already on the roster (See Pollard, Marcus and Cornerback-Linebacker, Any), which concerns me
4) He jumped back in the lineup hurt this year to solidify a bunch of rookies on a team that was sinking fast—this may be as much a “thanks for 2008” payment as anything.
If you are going to overpay and break the pattern of a very successful franchise, I suspect a moderately paid position is the place to do it. Should we make ANY RB one of the NFL’s highest paid in our O? Probably not. Same for a LB or DT in our system? Again, no. Say this signing goes all to hell because 63 suddenly becomes fragile and senile… so we are in a hole for $3 mill that we wouldn’t otherwise be. That’s bad, but not as bad as some teams spending $15M guaranteed on washed up WRs, RBs, CBs simply because they are desperate, and then benching or cutting that guy within a year. One hole in the finances is a LOT wasier to patch than the other.
If we get one good season out of him and one so-so season, then he retires before year 3, it’s probably a wash. Anything better and the team is in the black on this deal; anything worse and we’re in the red, but not by all that much.
Another measure: no career-ending LT-on-Joe-Theisman’s-leg injuries for 18 and we’re happy. That injury happens and 63 goes fishing on a lonely Nevada lake with Al Pacino and Bill Polian watching from shore.
One last thing 63 might consider—if he does particularly well and makes 3 pro bowls and has one more SB win, he’s got a decent chance at the HoF. I thought this a year ago and figured his injuries in 2008 erased that posisbility. But his heroics in 2008 have, if anything, shown how important he is to Indy’s high-flying offense. (heroics might overstate it, but I mean his returning from injury early twice to help save our season) If 18 puts the full-court press on voters in 10 years, well, he’ll certainly have a case.
I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.
continuity makes a line better
And it is definitely a relief that he is coming back. We have too many young players on the line and need the veteran leadership. That being said, I think we could have managed without him, but it would have forced them to simplify the offense.
3 years sounds right, and is a nice time frame to train his replacement (who hopefully is on the roster now).
I just hope that he doesn’t continue with the injury problems of this past season as is always worrisome in an older player.

Free Agency
Playoffs… (1) Jets 44-0 Colts. (2) Brady beats Manning, twice (3) Manning sacked 8 times, Bettis fumbles on the 1 yard line, Roethlisberger makes a one arm tackle, Vanderjagt misses the field goal. (4) Colts win the Super Bowl. (5) Chargers win at Indy. (6) Chargers win at San Diego. What does it take to win the big one? Lots of luck, no 3rd down conversions, no turnovers and running the football. Peyton has got to believe in a run game and the Colts have to find one. Marino never won a Super Bowl, the Colts had a great year from Addai and it carried them to the Big Game. Peyton would love to do it through the air but a good run game would make it that much easier. I was amazed with the ’06 season and the Super Bowl win but i cant help but wonder how many the Colts could have won with a good run game and a 3rd down stopper. Free agency, Defense, defense, defense, and a hard nose running back.
I'm confused
What does this have to do with Saturday? I think you’re in the wrong thread. Unless you’re talking about who we let go in FA. But then again, aside from 1-2 defensive players, we really haven’t let our good ones walk. That’d be more of a draft thing. Or are you replying to someone?
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.
Well Luck has to be the reason why the Chargers beat the Colts 2 years straight in the playoffs
Playoff game 1, 2008-Colts bring back Marvin Harrison when they shouldn’t have. He plays hurt and should be sitting the bench. Marv screws up on one play, because he is hurt and the steroid addict Chargers win
Playoff game 2, 2009-The Chargers little prick punter gets lucky with a bunch of punts anticipated as touch backs bouncing inches away from the goal line. Refs make a few bad calls on the Colts and the Chargers take the game in to OT on a punt anticipated as a touch back that ends up inches from the goal line and gets them a FG. Chargers win the coin toss for the second time in the game and beat the Colts in OT. Then the Chargers get smashed by Pittsburgh and their little prick punter can’t get a single punt inside the 20.
Conclusion, CHARGERS ONLY WIN IN THE PLAYOFFS, BECAUSE THEY GET LUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last season that team of steroid addicts was lucky to even be in the playoffs, this season they may not be so lucky since everyone knows sooner or later Norv Turner is going to become the Norv Turner who got fired for not taking the Redskins to the playoffs in 2001 when they signed Deon Sanders, Jeff George and a bunch of other loudmouth FA’s.

Thank you god

And kudos to Bill Polian for doing another good job with the Colts in the free agent market. I dunno how he manages to keep Peyton Manning and still re-sign guys like Jeff Saturday and Kelvin Hayden.
PS.
Jeff Saturday prolly would not have made a good guard for the Steelers anyways. I think the Steelers are better off keeping Chris Kumeteau and letting the Colts re-sing Jeff Saturday anyways.

It's from training camp @ RHIT
It’s Jeff Saturday with his 3 kids. I posted this pic, because I thought it would be the one Dungy would want me to post.
Kudos to Bill Polian this season in free agency

Whew.. I thought Polian would let him walk
I think Jim Irsay has something to do with this deal.. I m against owners interfering with these matters, but I m glad he did for this one (if indeed he did). Now that we have signed the most important player in our offense (not named Peyton), let’s focus on drafting good DTs (Polian knows who they are, but will he pick them early?) in the 1st and 2nd round.
Cheers from bleachers for Jeff
