Who should we profile?

New Era Scouting posted the players the Colts spoke to at the Senior Bowl a couple weeks ago:

Michael Hamlin, SS, Clemson
Derrick Williams, WR, Penn State
Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest
Mitch King, DE, Iowa
Chip Vaughn, SS, Wake Forest
David Bruton, FS, Notre Dame
Connor Barwin, DE/TE, Cincinnati
Zach Follett, LB, California
Ron Brace, DT, Boston College

We plan to do profiles on this players. What other players should we look at? BTW, notice how there are two Wake Forest guys on this list.

My thoughts

WR
Williams (even though I’ve heard terrible things)
Kenny Britt (Rutgers)
Hakeen Nicks (UNC)
Brian Robiskie (OSU)
Brandon Gibson (Wash St.)

RB
Shonn Greene (Iowa)
Donald Brown (Connecticut)
Rashad Jennings (Liberty)
Arian Foster (Tenn)

Safety
Hamlin
Vaughn
Nic Harris (Oklahoma)
Stephen Hodge (TCU)
William Moore (Missouri)

LB
Follet
Jason Phillips (TCU)
James Laurinaitis (OSU)
Darry Beckwith (LSU)
Dannel Ellerbe (Georgia)
Jasper Brinkley (USCarolina)
Gerald McRath, (Southern Miss)
Clay Matthews (USCalifornia)

DT
Brace
Evander Hood (Missouri)
Dorell Scott (Clemson)
Chris Baker (Hampton)
Terrence Taylor (Michigan)
Ricky Jean-Francois (LSU)
Alex Magee (Purdue)

Keep in mind, Clemson, Wake Forest, South Carolina, TCU and Texas A & M all run 3 safety defenses. I have some stuff on most of these guys.

Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

Mitch King

The National Football Post has their 2nd round mock draft up and they have the colts selecting Mitch King.

Thanks for the heads up

Now I know one site not to look for for valid information. But I was curious, so I checked their mock. All I have to say is….BWAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh my god. Are they just trying to pull out “nobody picked them but us!” type picks?

Apparently, we’re going to let Hayden go via Free Agency and draft Alphonso Smith. And the Lions are going to skip on Stafford and Sanchez and just stick to their guns and take Josh Freeman in the first. And apparently we’re going to pass on Britton, Moreno and Laurinaitis for him. Apparently there’s going to be 5 WRs drafted in the first round. The Bears are going to decide “Hey, since Orton can’t throw the ball as far as Hester can run, we may as well just draft Hester again and rename him Harvin right? It’s PERFECT!” And Curry falling to 12? Curry’s the 12th pick and Clay Matthews is 23rd, nice. Right, let’s say Green Bay drafts a OLB/DE for versatility instead of Raji/Curry. So let’s see, we could have our choice between the best safety, RB, ILB for our system, but we’re just going to say screw it, let’s get the 4th or 5th best CB. Then Arizona is going to decide to take a TE instead of LeSean McCoy I guess.

And in round 2? Holy crap, I didn’t even realize that they had us taking Alphonso Smith, and THEN St. Louis takes Sean Smith in front of Davis. So they ranked their CBs Jenkins, D.J. Moore, Alphonso Smith, Sean Smith, Vontae Davis? Wow. And what great idea, Chicago should ditch that Tommie Harris scrub and replace him with Sen’Derrick Marks! Good idea! And then after that, the Vikings decide to draft the exact same QB they already have with Nate Davis! And Miami is on the decline with Pennington, let’s just get Pat White in there.

And now it comes to the Colts pick. After much deliberation, they decide to fix their problems at DT by replacing the 265 lb UT with a 275 lb UT so they can shoot the gaps about exactly the same. Not only are we yanking King up 2-4 rounds, but we decide that his upside is 10 times more than Foster’s and Evander Hood is a scrub.

And this is just classic; “The Broncos get their outside rush linebacker for new defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and his 3-4 defense.” Yes, let’s build our 3-4 around ONLY LBers. If you recall, they’re supposed to take Curry in round 1 and now they’re taking Sintim in round 2. Screw the DTs, 3-4s don’t need them.

I’ve seen some poor mocks, this one’s definitely up there.

Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

Roy Miller

DT from Texas, nobody is talking about him but I think he could be a bad ass. Not a run stuffer but very disruptive.

Good find

He’s being pegged to go either in the 7th round or free agency. Definitely sounds like a Colts type player from what I’m reading.

Not a Colts receiver

Too slow, not a great route runner.

He was on some skills competition on ESPN

and came off really cocky or way too confident in my opinion. He would mess up on a particular drill or challenge and then try to show off by catching a soft throw to him with one hand….

I like Ron Brace

All the rest of these guys don’t really sound that good except for Zach Follett and Alphonso Smith (highly doubt Smith will fall to the Colts in the first round, but I could be wrong). + I heard that the Cotls actually spoke to all the DT at the senior bowl anyways.

PS.
I bet the Colts are looking at big Tarik Glenn type O-line men as well.

Go Colts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Local Guys

Ryan Baker, played DT at Purdue and played his High School ball at Bishop Chatard in Indy.

Brace could be intriguing and I’ve seen Mitch King in mocks heading the Colts direction as well. King was a guy who actually looked pretty good in college and didn’t do all that poorly in the Senior Bowl.
