Checking the mocks

Here are the Colts picks from the 25 most recent mock drafts on HailRedskins Mock Draft Database.

Player Peria Jerry Hakeem Nicks
Percy Harvin
Alphonso Smith D.J. Moore
Mike Mickens
Darrius Heyward-Bey
James Laurinatis
Brian Cushing
Chris Wells Duke Robinson Fili Moala
Times Picked (of-25) 10 4 2 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1

6 of the 25 went to a 2nd round, none of the 6 agreed on a pick. They did have similar positions in mind

WR: Brian Robiskie, Juaquin Iglesias

DT: Evander Hood, Sen'Derrick Marks, Fili Moala

RB: Javon Ringer

3 more went to 3 rounds

RB: James Davis (a bad pick in my mind since Davis was horrifically inept in every facet of the passing game at the senior bowl)

MLB: Gerald McRath

WR Mohammed Massaquoi

I'll leave you all with my latest Indy draft from me inputing team needs to a Draft-Tek sim.

1. Hakeem Nicks

2. Sen'Derrick Marks

3. DeAngelo Smith (CB for Cinncinati)

Hakeem Nicks is going to be great

He’s a possession receiver, but he runs his routes perfectly and has great hands. Even after Tate got hurt he stepped it up and carried the Heels. If Jerry is gone I wouldn’t mind taking him, although Hood would be a nice pick even if it is a bit of a reach.

would not have any part of percy harvin. the guy is chronically injured. yes hes fast and a playmaker but the guy had foot problems his entire career and I still think he is not healed nor may he never be. thats why he might be available or some teams think they got a steal. they will be getting injured goods

please NO TO robiskie and javon ringer. hicks and greene or brown from Uconn IMO is far more explosive. robisikie isnt even impressive one bit in my mind. I like massaquoi

not to be down on the buckeyes but I just think Laurinatis and wells are going to be busts too

NO to james davis too

alphonso smith is going to be gone by the time we get to pick

and one little note…the many observations of our short, smallish, not up to what other teams have on the d line….freeney and mathis looked pretty darn impressive to me in the pro bowl

julius peppers. he is somebody I would LOVE to see on the colts but his idiot request of playing on a certain kind of d(and the money, yes the insane money he will get paid) is going to make him reqret his wishes. I just think thats a copeout for getting out of carolina. just say you want to play for a contender and you will get signed by one. the guy is still a monster of a football player

About Moala

Personally I don’t like Fili Moala, because last I heard he weighed about either 287 or 278 LBS, which is ideal size for a UT the same position as Keyunta Dawson, *Raheem Brock, *Josh Thomas, and Eric Foster. And pesonally I think if the Colts are going to draft any one for the UT position it should be Mitch King of Iowa.

Also I think the Colts should consider OT Alex Boone out of Ohio State in this years draft, becasue he is 332 LBS and the Colts need some size on the O-line.

Also don’t forget the Colts are taking a good look at BC DT Ron Brace.

You need to do a little more research before you start throwing out ideas. Alex Boone was arrested a couple weeks ago.

This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

Moala

I think Moala would be a solid pick in the 2nd round, right? Could he fit with the Colts?

by ColtsFanNChiTown on Feb 9, 2009 1:28 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I'd like him in the 2nd

no so much in the 1st, but here’s the exchange between me and Luke Paul Chandler (of New Era Scouting) after he had Moala to Indy in the 1st.

Shake: I haven’t heard good things about Moala, right now I’d rather have any of the next 3 guys taken (Knowshon, Laurainitis, Nicks) than Fili.

LPC: Moala will be a stud in the NFL. Don’t buy into him not being that good of a prospect.

Shake..

that is interesting about Moala…to me he seems like the kind of guy the Colts could really use. Especially if he could be gotten in the second round. I like him…and I have a feeling he is going to be a mainstay at stopping the run in the NFL…regardless where he goes. Do you trust Luke Paul Chandler?

by TRDean on Feb 9, 2009 2:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

he is definitely a disruptive cover-2 type DT

I didn’t like what I had heard about him in the senior bowl, that he was slacking in some of the drills then turning it on later, when he felt like it.

I trust LPC as much as anyone scouting prospects and putting their info out there. He knows his stuff and believes in Moala.

You know what that tells me?
he was slacking in some of the drills then turning it on later, when he felt like it.

Sounds like he has been coddled and told how great he was for 4 years.

There’s no doubt he has first round talent. There’s no way he should be taken at #27. Second round would be fine, if he falls all the way down.

Oh well then I guess he would be a good pick up for the Colts

Sorry bout that, the last soruce (Sporting News Magazine) had Moala listed at 283 (checked after I posted my first comment). I guess your right he would be a good pick up for them.

PS.
Do you think Mike Patterson of the Eagles is a good comparison to Fili Moala?

OK, since Alex Boone is a big fat drunk who prolly won't get drafted,

I came up with these candidates as possible O-line pickups for the Colts in the 09 Draft:
Criag Ubank-G-332 (Wisconsin)
Fred Ronald-T-311 (Duke)
Dallas Renolds-G/T (BYU)
Phil Loadholt-T-355 LBS (Oklahoma) (Could be a bit slow)
Then there was another dude out of LSU who was about 315, but I can’t remember his name. I just know he played offensive tackle.

And I also think Alex Magee and Kory Sheets may not be bad pickups for the Colts in the draft.

And I think Sean Sester of Purdue could end up being a great free agent pick up for the Colts after the draft since he is 325 (same weight as Alex Boone) was on IR last season and was not invited to the scouting combine.

Oh Yeah, I Forgot about Michael Oher

OK, look I know Michael Oher on paper seems like a top 10 draft pick and on many mock draft boards including Yahoo’s and mine have Oher going in the top 10. But that could all change during the scouting combine if Michael Oher looks lost in drills just like he did at the Senior bowl. And I think if that happens he may slide to the Colts in the first or quite possibly even (according to Sporting News Magazine) the third round of the draft. + last I checked Mel Kiper Jr.’s top draft prospects board, Oher was listed as the 25th best guy in the draft and on the decline.

Go Colts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kiper hates Oher, Oher won't drop.

ZERO chance unless he goes out and robs a bank or his knee explodes.

Well there is an extreemly slim chance of Oher dropping to the Colts

Since Sporting News (another sports corperation who obvously hates Oher (prolly more then Kiper) wouldn’t even put Micheal Oher in their mock draft for the first 2 rounds. + Mike Mayock has Michael Oher listed as the 4th best OT in this years draft and say’s he will go out side the top 20 which means he could fall to the Colts if Mayock is right and the Vikings go for a QB like Ball States Nate Davis (which I think they will considering the fact that the Vikings have practically everything but A QB).

But all in all I’d say your prolly right since I personally think Michael Oher is the second best OT in this years draft. But there is an extreemly slim chance you could be wrong

you have a link for the 2 round mock without Oher?

just for contrast, Mocking Dan has Oher as the #1 OT, #5 on the big board and going #2 to the Rams.

Hey I have Oher going high too

I have Michael Oher on my mock draft board as the sixth over all pick to the Bengals. I think (even though there is a slight chance Oher could slip past the Vikings in the first round meaning he would most likely fall to the Colts) he will still most likely be compieting with Bama’s Andre Smith for the best OT in the 2009 draft and second over all pick. And personally I think since Smith is bigger he will get drafted ahead of Oher.

PS.
as far as I’m concerned as of now Oher is way better then Virgenia’s Eugine Monroe and Baylor’s Jason Smith. But Oher being a top 10 draft pick in the 09 draft will all depend on how well he does in the blocking drills at the combine and his wonderlick test. Becuase everyone know’s Oher is going to have an outstanding 40 yard dash time and vertical jump.

Go Colts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh wait sorry (ignore my first post)

No I don’t have that link with me, but you might be able to find it on the Sporting News website. And if not, it was in last week’s issue of Sporting News. It was the magazine with Ryan Howard of the Phillies on the front.
