Colts to work out Mark Sanchez

An odd bit of news considering the QB of the Colts is the 2008 NFL MVP. FanPost partially edited--bbs

Quarterback Mark Sanchez is expected to perform private workouts for the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts before participating in USC's Pro Day on April 1.

I wonder why the Colts would be working out a QB expected to go in the top 10?  The Colts rarely make trades within the first round so this definitely comes as a surprise.  I'm from SoCal though and I'll tell you, Mark Sanchez is going to be a good pro in this league (and possibly a great one if he gets to learn from Manning).

You must be an SC fan. ;)

I’m from So Cal too. I disagree, though. He looks good because his D is fantastic. I wasn’t really impressed with him at all. He only declared this year because the other QBs aren’t the quality that next year will bring.

That said, I am wondering the same thing. I can’t imagine that we would waste time on a QB when we have so many other needs…DT, OT, RB, and possibly WR…

He did look shaky at times, but USC plays a pro-style offense and it makes the transition from college to pro much easier (as long as you aren’t too busy hitting the beer bong…) which will help make up for some of his weaknesses.

nope, if the Colts go QB their going Nate Davis

Nate Davis = beast, God I hope he doesn't go to Detriot.......

The wouldn’t ever draft Nate Davis, hate to burst your bubble.

This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

There’s no way the Colts are going to draft Sanchez. They are just playing mind games with the other teams.

This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

Agreed.

We don’t have enough money to draft him (he will most likely go in the 1st round) and 6-7 other guys. 5 million really isn’t alot of money to play with…(I can’t believe I just typed that)

But if *we* all "know" that

then certainly other teams would, too…

Well

Since the Colts worked him out I hope this doesn’t mean Peyton may have revised how long he wants to play..

Don't want to step in the middle of something, but a niece of mine is an SC alum and she says...

it’s FUCLA.

now which one is right?

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

I think FUCla is the original

but I can also get on board with FUSC.

He won't be their first-round pick obv

I have the feeling he’s gonna drop like a stone, maybe they’d pick him up 4th or 5th round.

by slash196 on Mar 6, 2009 6:57 PM EST reply actions

4th or 5th... I really doubt that.

he could drop, it’s entirely possible… but probably no lower than the second round.

there’s a slight chance that he’ll still be available at pick 27. I’d be surprised if Polian took him there, but… “in Polian we trust”, aye?

by hahasound on Mar 6, 2009 11:22 PM EST up reply actions

If he's there

I wouldn’t blame Polian for taking him. He would probably be BPA, and we could finally have a real quality backup. It would kind of be like the Packers drafting Rodgers.

by Cow of Pain on Mar 7, 2009 3:50 AM EST up reply actions

I would not like that pick

Because Peyton is going to outlast a rookie contract, and we have a LOT more pressing needs that backup QB. As much as we’re all unimpressed with Sorgi he’s done the job as a backup, AND we just gave him a new contract.

by slash196 on Mar 7, 2009 12:51 PM EST up reply actions

I didn't say I'd like it

Just that I wouldn’t blame Polian. And probably in a couple of years there would be some quite nice trading value in a talented QB mentored by Manning.

We have a revolutionary two QB scheme being planned. It’s like the wildcat, but with more deep routes.

Free look at USC QB

I’m not as sure as the rest of you guys about looking at a QB at this stage of Manning football career. Payton will be 33 yrs young this year although I hate to see his career come to end and be the one betting against him when that time is, but I see him playing at least 2 – 3 more years at the level we all love to watch during his tenure as a Colt. None of us would like to see him play or look like a shell of himself like good old number 4 has done over the past few years. Payton demands a lot from himself and from his teammates. You can tell, just look at the start of last season, he knew in his heart playing on half a wheel was better than risking starting out 1 – 3 had we started our backup QB. He just suck it up and played no excuesses….I really don’t believe it’s the D-line or the Rec’ing core we should be fearing but who’s going to take over for #18 when the time comes. I remember when # 19 was hurt, the best Def in the land, Off to match and we sent out our back-up QB to the Superbowl and the Jets made quick history of us….. that should scare us the most, take a look at NE when Tom went down, they knew that their season was all but over week one…. as good as they were and as hard as they played it wasn’t enough in the end….We can learn something from that. We need a good quality Backup QB that Manning would have the chance to groom prior to going out in the sunset… doing something that he seen his closest friend and Coach done when he left the game of football, Tony D. Not all of us get to write our own scripts when it comes time to hang it up, but again not all football teams are built like the Indy Colts… From Head office down the staff has taken a few shots from outside football authorities. It’s been a great run, like many others I will outright break down and cry like a baby when that day come when Payton decide to hang it up ….but, be not fool the Colts head office as never left you down; they must know something that we don’t. And I’m sure the first thing they did before they decided to bring in a quality Backup QB they talked it over with good old number 18 way before they even dream of bringing in some rookie QB. The head office has come to grip regarding the QB pos it just going to take us the fans a little bit longer to realize that Payton is getting older… Not saying he doesn’t have it still but you don’t want to see him hanging around trying to help the team because we don’t have a quality QB ready in time when he wants or need to retire… We are one of the most sucessful Football team in the NFL over the past 10 years…. We done things the right way, a model franchise for other teams to copy, Our front office never put the fans last and they care about past and present football members of the Colts just check out the article regarding how the Colts presented the Edge his own Superbowl ring from a few years ago…..Let’s support our team, its hard enough on everyone as it is. After all we are the Colts Nation!
