TO signs with... Buffalo ? Really?
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3960653
It didn't take long for T.O. to find a new home. The Buffalo Bills and Terrell Owens have agreed to a one-year, $6.5 million deal, sources told ESPN.com's John Clayton on Saturday. The Bills are planning a news conference 6:15 p.m. Saturday. The controversial wide receiver was cut by the Dallas Cowboys late Wednesday.
just shocking. Trent Edwards is average at best. And Buffalo does not get national attention.

I'm completely shocked
Of the four teams in the AFC East, I thought the Bills would be the last place Owens would go to. Hell, thought Parcells would’ve taken T.O. before the Bills.

And another thing
T.O. was out of work for TWO whole days and got another job, yet Marvin was released about 1 1/2 weeks ago, yet still know offers?

To was much better last season
I hate to say it but it’s just the facts. Marvin was decent but he’s older and less productive now.
Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

Yeah, I know he had a better year than Marv
but I’m a little suprised that someone wanted T.O. so quickly.

Me, and 32 GMs and head coaches in the NFL…
I don’t think it’s a big knock on Harrison to be not as good as Owens at this stage of their respective careers, although both had a case of the dropsies last seaon.

his raw number were
but that’s because he was top 10 in targets. He got the 9th most passes thrown to him, but was 13th in receptions and yards.
FO’s numbers are even harder on TO, probably because he only caught half the passes thrown to him, 46th in total value 56th per play. Both better than Marv’s numbers, but not by a whole lot.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
This is a real head-scratcher. They may need a receiver but this selection is just weird. Too bad I’m still a Marshawn fan (recent arrest notwithstanding)…

COLTS vs BILLS
Just a reminder the Colts play at the Toronto Bills (you know this is coming) this year.
I would love to see Hayden shut down TO. That would make my day.
Here’s to the future (drink in hand)….cheers!

When I saw that T.O. signed with the Bills
the first thing that popped into my mind was the Colts play against the Bills next season. Now that game will be more interesting, but Freeney and Mathis will still destroy poor, little Trent Edwards.

the bills haven't announced which game will be in toronto this year
i’m hoping the colts visit is in orchard park and not toronto. will be cheaper that way and a much better atmosphere

not really
the biggest fan base is probably the bills. 10000 of the 70000 at ralph wilson are usually Canadian bills fans. Other than that there an eclectic mix of fans of every other NFL team.

Because what the NFL really needs...
…is another large market that can’t sell out a small stadium. The attendance at the Bills-Dolphins game in Toronto last year barely broke 52,000, the smallest Buffalo “home” crowd in living memory. Despite that the Bills were still 7th in the league in average attendance, up from 9th in 2007.

The Rogers Centre capacity for football is 53000.
Last years game was a bit of disaster. The tickets were WAY overpriced, a nosebleed ticket cost as much as the most expensive seat at Ralph Wilson and as the game approached they were basically giving away the tickets. It was a terrible game as well.
Buffalo has great fans for both the Bills and Sabres. Unfortunately economic factors may be the downfall of the BIlls in Buffalo. The whole point of the Bills in Toronto Series is to get some additional revenue for the Bills franchise. Rogers paid a fortune for eight measly games. If the Bills end up being relocation I don’t think there’s any doubt that the Toronto market could adopt the franchise. Like I already mentioned a nice chunk of the Bills crowd is Canadian, and if there was a stadium in place (or the Rogers Centre expanded) Toronto would embrace an NFL franchise.

Let me repeat. The Bills haven’t been to the post-season in a decade. They play in the second-smallest market in the league. Despite all of that they’re still 7th in the league in attendance. That’s the top 25%. The Colts with winning seasons for-frelling ever and a brand new state of the art stadium aren’t in that category. The World Champion Steelers are 26th. The third largest market in the country (Chicago) is 27th. Where does Bills attendance have to be before it is not considered a problem? 2nd behind the Redskins? Perhaps not even then.
If 27th is good enough attendance for the third largest market in the country why is 7th not good enough attendance for the country’s 44th largest market?

I’m not sure why you say Let me repeat and then add a new point.
The problem with the Bills isn’t the fan support it’s the lack of corporate dollars. I’m pretty sure there aren’t a lot of luxury boxes at Ralph Wilson.
Also the attendance numbers you’re citing are highest average attendance, not taking into account the different stadium capacities. The Bills were actually only 89.2 percent capacity last year, 28th in the NFL. The Colts were 105.4 percent 3rd in the NFL.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/attendance?sort=home_perc&year=2008
Buffalo is a great sports town, but it’s a blue collar town that is suffering a population decline. The Buffalo economy may not be able to handle the Bills despite the great (defensive) fans.

You’re making it sound like what the NFL really wants is apathetic fans sitting at home watching on tv while only the well heeled watch the games live in tiny stadiums…that the NFL is deliberately attempting to destroy their own viability as a spectator sport.
Sounds to me like Goodell wants to kill the golden goose.

you’re not addressing my points but that’s ok because i AGREE with you.
The NFL is most interested in profit maximization. I don’t think they want to completly destroy the traditional fan experience, but unfortunately older stadiums are getting torn down for “state of the art” white collar Colosseums.
Many on this blog noted that Lucas Oil Stadium is a beautiful structure but nothing like the raucous loud fan experience that the RCA Dome was.
I’ve been to Ralph Wilson and love the atmosphere there (The Let’s go Buffalo song is great). I wish that all stadiums in the NFL could be like it. Unfortunately older blue collar stadiums are being demolished every year. It’s the economic reality of today’s NFL.

I still wonder why does Chris Mortensen still work at ESPN?
Dude claimed that 30 or the 32 teams did not want T.O. ,and I don’t remember Buffalo being one of the 2 teams wanting him. T.O’s agent (I don’t know how trustworthy his words are) claimed that 3 to 4 other teams wanted Owens, which sounds pretty reasonable to me. Mort has some very crappy sources.

Yeah, Mort is a complete tool.

Mort’s sources are mostly agents, which makes him vulnerable to spin. That said, in this case, just about every team was saying they weren’t interested, even if they were, just because a perceived lack of interest helps drive his value down, making him cheaper. In theory. The Bills seem to have ignored all that, though it’d take about that much money to convince me to live in Buffalo too, so I guess they kind of had to overbid.
by willyduer on Mar 8, 2009 5:08 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’m not sure they did overbid; one of the interested teams was almost certainly the Raiders and youo know Al Davis loves splashing the cash.
$6m unguaranteed is a pretty nice deal for a receiver of Owens’ talent.

Gotta be humbling for TO
A one year, 6.5 million dollar contract is pretty ho-hum money. For that to be the best offer for TO says a lot. Kinda like Randy Moss’s situation, except Moss is a better receiver.
by slash196 on Mar 8, 2009 1:49 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Moneywise, the Bills are paying Owens about $800,000 more
than what the Cowboys were going to pay him next season. However, just a one year contract shows T.O. that if he causes anymore problems with a team, his NFL career is most likely over.

Toronto Colts fans
Well i am one of the few Toronto Colts fans along with torontocoltsfans himself… regardless T.O. is only one year older than marvin and he had no preference as to where he went he just wants to feel wanted… Marvin on the other hand is probably waiting to sign with a winner (here’s hoping the colts)… If they do chose to play the colts game at the rogers center i will be the first in line to buy scalpers! GO COLTS!

Someone with Photoshop Skills
Needs to make a “Terell Owens Customizable Jersey”. You get a white jersey, the T. Owens sewn on the back, the number 8 sewn on, the digits 0-9, every team’s shoulder, front, back logos, and velcro on the entire jersey where the name and 8 aren’t sewn on. That way you won’t have to buy a new one when he gets released from the Bills. I’m telling you, it’d sell like hot cakes. You could see what he’d look like in every away uniform! Nobody steal that idea, it’s my next patent.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

NFL's merchandising division has probably already stolen it
Nice idea, but those guys play hardball.
This is an odd signing and can see a lot of grief coming from it (TO not getting enough targets, weather causing problems, team doing poorly, neither QB performing up to the standards he’s used to… unless you buy the story that TO makes QBs into pro-bowlers like Moss does, he has had some good QB talent to work with: Garcia, McNabb, Romo, and I don’t think Edwards is in that league, so to speak.)
In other offseason player-movement news, did anyone see Florio’s suggestion that the Colts were a possible landing place for LT should he leave SD? The potential snags: LT might not want to share carries and cap space. Duh—we’d have to structure a contract that pays him $24M yet has a 2009 cap hit of zero. Yah, I’d call that a challenge. Granted, Indy was just one of maybe 6 towns he named, but why even bother? The odds are beyond astronomical for many reasons.
I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.
