NFL DRAFT ORDER
The NFL has now posted the NFL Draft order, not including compensatory picks (as I understand). The Colts have the following picks thus far:
RD 1 - pick 27
RD 2 - pick 29 (pick 61 overall)
RD 3 - pick 28 (pick 92 overall)
RD 4 - pick 27
RD 5 -pick 29
RD 6 - pick 28
RD 7 - pick 27
begin your speculation.

I saw this the other day but I didn’t notice that Houston has 2 first round picks this season. dammnnnnnnn
This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.
Detriot and Philly have 2 first rounders
Houston doesn’t

woops I was looking at the fifth round
This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.
At least we have a 1st round pick this year...
unlike last year.

what kind of compensatory picks do you think we will get?
IMO we should get at least one 3rd round pick with the number of extra picks we get.
Scott and Utecht are the guys that could draw picks
Scott is probably a 4 or 5, Utecht might be a 7

Little busy, I’ll check later if you don’t know off the top of your head, but do you know what counts for salary? Klecko had that ridiculous 10 million salary, but those were all those LTBE incentives to use the cap loophole. Do you know if those count? I’d assume no, but it’d be nice to know people using that actually had some type of negativity associated with it. Be nice to get a 3rd round pick for Klecko.
Also, I know the Eagles traded a conditional pick, but Lawton didn’t make the roster so I don’t know if the pick goes away or if there’s a possibility of a pick. I’d assume no, but couldn’t find anything other than rumors about that awhile back.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.
I remember finding somewhere that said Lawton had to make the roster
which he didn’t.
they don’t release the formula for comp picks, so I doubt anyone outside of the league office knows what type of salaries count.

We don't get a comp pick for Utecht
He was a RFA and we offered him the tender equivalent to his draft status, and he was an UDFA.
Therefore we get nothing for him.
good call
Only UFAs that leave count.

5th
Definitely a 5th, possibly a 4th for Scott. Maybe a slight spattering of a 6th or a 7th in there.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.
has that guy you linked a while back that predicts the comp picks done them for this year yet?
They come out around the end of the month.

Doesn't look like it yet
He’s a KFFL poster. From what they said over there, he normally does them around mid march. Off the top of my head, Samuels, Turner, Faneca, Odom, and a few others were all signed for more than him.
I’ll let you know as soon as he puts something up.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.
He posted his prediction today
http://forums.kffl.com/showthread.php?t=247418
“Indianapolis (Jake Scott, $4.8 million, 16/16) – possibly a fifth-round pick”
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.
Oops
Forgot to say he’s predicting a 4th with a possibility of a 5th.

with the way Polian drafts, that many picks is unfair to the rest of the league.

A kicker.
I think that picks 1-26 should all be kickers. Then Polian should have to settle for the BPA at 27.

Seriously, though.
I still think that Aaron Curry is the best defensive player in the draft, and the Raiders 31st ranked run defense needs help. Another great option, should he fall to 7, is BJ Raji. Even Orakpo. If any of those three are there, I would think they would help.
On the other end, some offensive line help would be huge for Oakland. If Jason Smith (who I suspect will go #2 to replace Orlando Pace) or Eugene Monroe slide to 7, they would be great selections.
In other words, at pick 7 there are so many great options that you can’t go wrong. Unless you are Al Davis or Daniel Snyder of course. Oh wait…

I think Oher would be a fit
need position and fits the Raider style of being hugely talented but a massive risk.

Hey, question for you.
How badly do you think Andre Smith’s stock will fall? He would have been a mention at this point, but the combine and his pro day have damaged him. I am leaving the office for several hours right now and will check back in later, but I’m curious about y’alls opinion on his status.

some quotes
it was still the worst ( and funniest) workout I have ever seen.
The guy ripped his shirt off as he was walking up the the scale and he looked like he’d been sitting on the coach watching the games all season.
His bench press looked like it was his first time doing 225 for reps, he switched his hand position midway through the set. It actually probably hurt him significantly… if he was going to try to gain an advantage by switching his hand position he should have slide his hands further out.
He ran his 40 with out a shirt on. One of my friends walked into the room right as he was running it and she instantly started laughing.
It looked like he stopped to tie his shoe in the middle of the 3-cone drill.
He would have been much better off refusing to do any kind of workouts prior to the draft and only done the weighing in and measurables at the combine (with a shirt on).

wish I could tell you guys what we’ve heard about the Andre Smith leaving the Combine…but since his agent isn’t returning calls, I can’t confirm or deny it…
……….
I’m willing to bet that I can come close to replicating that workout. I’m calling up Alvin Keels to challenge Andre…
-Luke Paul Chandler (Owner of New Era Scouting)
What to take from all this: Smith’s stock will probably be about the same. He’s the third or fourth best tackle to most and will be drafted anywhere from pick eight to late in the first round.

I'm about to leave too
But at the worst he’s still a top 15, top 20 at the very worst pick. He’s still probably the 3rd tackle on the boards. His size and arm length are too good to pass up. And the people are harping on his numbers waaaaay too much. He had by far the longest arms (means low reps on the bench) and let me know when a lineman runs more than 5 yards. If he is, something terrible happened and the defense probably has the ball. Work ethic is the only concern, but his tape and potential is too high. Not to mention that he did really well in his drills but people like to ignore that because negative media sells.
I’m sorry, a guy with his tape and how well he does in drills is much more impressive than some lineman that can run a 5.2 40 and have 30 reps but look much worse. Always check arm length when looking at bench press. Besides, upper body strength is secondary to lower body strength for lineman. They should have the squat added to the combine.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.
though being fat and blowing off the combine workout are real issues

Thanks for the comments
I really think that we should get micheal crabtree and hopefully he turns out to be the next Marvin Harrison
This year. is the year, for years to come
Thanks to shake n bake and monsterbox.
It sounds like he is a non issue to the Colts. He won’t get that far according to the opinions expressed. I did read someone’s belief that he will drop to the third round.
I guess here is my question. If he slid to us, do you think that the Colts would grab him, or would you want them to grab him? How about in the second round, if indeed he took a big hit from all this?
I don't trust that he'd work at getting better
and before the combine there was already talk that he was going to have to be a RT or a guard because he wasn’t tall or athletic enough to be a LT.
I’d rather have any of the other 5 possible 1st round tackles (Monroe, Jason Smith, Oher, Britton, Beatty).

I'd rather have a 6'4 tackle with long arms
Better against smaller DEs that can’t exploit leverage. Freeney does much better against taller tackles than shorter ones. Height is considered a strong factor because it’s generally proportional to arm length. Smith has the arm length of someone who’s 6’8 and being shorter is actually a plus.
I agree, I’d rather have Jason Smith or Oher over him. But I’d rather have Andre Smith over Britton or Beatty. But at least 4, maybe all 6 will be gone before us. I think coltsfanawalt was assuming that’s the case but on the chance that they’re gone and Smith happens to fall, would I be for taking him. And absolutely I would. We’re struggling at both tackles, not just left.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.
I'd take him in a second
He doesn’t have an attitude issue as relating to ego, I’ve heard him in interviews. He actually sounds like a really good kid who the media is having a field day tearing up. His problem is more direction. And do I think Peyton and Saturday can teach someone maturity and put things into perspective? Absolutely. He’s a kid that played on one of the best lines in college and has the game film to back that up. If he did all that while being unmotivated and out of shape, uhm, that’s pretty phenomenal. Tackle is arguably one of our biggest needs. And the person that said he’d drop to the third round didn’t happen to be a bumbling idiot trying to sell you a monkey who went by the name Peter King did it? That’s ridiculous. You don’t go from being considered the #1 overall pick to the third round because you ran a low 40. People put way too much weight on numbers. He’s not as much of a sure thing as everyone thought, but at 27 he’s definitely worth the “risk”. They projected a 5.26 40 yard dash time for him and had a 5.28 and now people are freaking out? Tupou and Loadholt were given slack for their “long arms” and their bench press. Tupou had 24 (34" arms) and Loadholt had 24 (26 at the pro day with 36" arms). Smith has 35.5" arms and did 19. Whoop de doo. Smith also did extremely well in the drills going up against another top prospect in Caldwell. And by the way, Tupou had a 5.41 40 and Loadholt had 5.54 so Smith is actually quite a bit faster than both of them. So based on performance combined with film, Andre Smith is still probably the best, or a very close second to Jason Smith, OT in the draft. In fact, I’d be pissed if they passed on him even with Jerry or whoever’s on the board. The only exception would probably be Raji. Actually, not probably, I’d definitely be pissed.
This entire situation is media hype. Everyone is predicting the worst possible scenario because if they’re wrong, so what? “Oh, well they decided to take a chance on him because of his extreme potential.” But the slim chance they’re right “I TOLD YOU SO! I TOLD YOU ALL FIRST! I WAS THE FIRST ONE TO TELL YOU HE’D DROP!” They’re pissed that he didn’t go tell the almighty media that he was leaving. They felt insulted and now they’re trying to legitimize their careers by saying “Look at our POWER! We control your future!” Of course Peria Jerry doesn’t show up and Stafford is sitting there shadow boxing while all the other QBs are participating in the drills. I mean how is that considered just peachy and Andre Smith coming out and being honest about not being in the shape he thinks would produce the best numbers isn’t? Stafford was RIGHT THERE throwing an imaginary football and not participating. I’m not kidding. He was pretending to throw a ball on the sidelines during the drills. LeSean McCoy didn’t participate because he had the flu and didn’t feel he’d produce the numbers he could, the DBs came out and pretty much took a crap on the starting line for the 40 yard dash, Maualuga comes out and jacks up his hamstring, and Laurinaitis joined the crap parade with the DBs. Not to mention I’m not 100% sold on Crabtree’s foot. He trains up to the point he’s supposed to be ready to go and all of a sudden he has a fracture? He couldn’t make it 40 more yards that day, but he was intending to run at his pro day? And the main question was what his 40 time was? And he didn’t just opt out of the 40, he didn’t participate in any of the drills. Remind me that when I stub my toe I can’t do a bench press. It sounds way too convenient. Not saying he’s lying, but it was very convenient but the analysis is there’s no question he’s still the best WR and a top 10 pick.

You sure?
He made an announcement at a podium apparently. Granted he didn’t say “I’m not going to work out, I’m leaving right now.” But he did say he wasn’t going to work out. To me I’d assume he was leaving if he said that. Either way, that’s his agent dropping the ball or Smith ignoring his agent’s advice.

ok it was the middle
