Mock From Known Interests
This isn't my mock, it's a mock based on what could happen looking at the players the Colts have shown interest in.
"
Looking at the way it’s breaking down with the visits, and where the dudes are projected to go, it’s looking (and this is just hypothetical from what I’m seeing from who they’ve shown interest in) like it could be something like (who they’ve shown official interest above just watching them in parenthesis):
1. DT (Hood, Moala, Brace, Harvey, Doolittle, Vaughn Martin, Irvin, King)
2. O-line (Mack, Loadholt, Oher, Samuel Allen)
3. S/LB (LBs – J. Williams, Freeman, Follet, Sintim, Ramon Humber, Andy Schantz, Safeties – Vaughn, Hamlin, Bruton, Afalava, Mitchell, Pegues)
4. WR (Nicks, Williams, JaRon Harris, Guice, Johnny Knox, Brandon Tate)
4. CB (A. Smith, Joe Burnett, Steven Jackson)
5. Nate Davis (sort of kidding, but wouldn’t be shocked)
6. RB (Andrew Johnson, Devin Moore, Gartrell Johnson, Marcus Thigpen)
7. BPA/DE (Cody Brown, Dan Skuta, Barwin, Skolnitzsky)
Pro days attended :
PSU – Josh Gaines, Maybin, D. Williams, Butler, Norwood
OSU – Robiskie, M. Freeman, Laurinaitis, M. Jenkins, Wells, Boone, O’neil
USC – Maualuga, Cushing, Matthews, P. Turner, Moala… just go read their roster.
Missouri – Hood, Maclin
That’s not who I’m telling them to look at, that’s who they have looked at and have shown interest in. And just based on that, and knowing they’ve probably looked at 20 more dudes that nobody knows about yet because that’s how they roll, this could be a potential outcome :
1. Hood
2. Loadholt
3. M. Freeman
4. Bruton
4. Butler
5. King
6. Andrew Johnson
7. Afalava/Pegues (they both returned kicks in school)
Just from looking at that list, I don’t see them taking a RB before the 6th round or a WR. I only put the WR at the 4th spot because of Nicks, but did anyone find out if that was true or not? It just goes from Nicks, then plummets to 7th round and UDFAs. The only other receivers they showed interest in was the collective group of PSU ones. And an interview with Williams. It’s looking like they’re targetting receivers for return ability. I’m not certain about them looking at O-lineman. They didn’t put alot of effort into that. But like I said, that’s just from the list."

I want someone (mainly because I don’t want to spend all weekend doing it) to look back at who the Colts have interviewed/worked out/etc and if they ended up drafting them. It’d be interesting to see how many current Colts were actually heavily scouted.
This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.
Oh and I write words and stuff for Stampede Blue.
I've been working on it
Probably have it done in a couple days. I just know Polian never drafts who everyone projects him too. So the only other place I can assume he gets his info from is from his workouts and visits. I don’t think he’d go in there without a good deal of info. And the workouts he actually does do are on relative unknowns. I think they might attend the the main prospects Pro Days and formulate opinion from that and game film, and the guys they don’t have much film on they have them visit. One trend I HAVE noticed, is that they never release who they workout it gets leaked, and after other teams find out who the Colts worked out, there’s a frenzy of activity concerning that prospect. Seriously, I’ve seen like 3 dudes that they release on KFFL that the Colts looked at like two weeks before that post. Then after a day or two I see that same random ass guy have 5-6 interviews. I mean, Polian finds SICK unknowns. That Andrew Johnson kid could end up being pretty good. He’s the fastest RB in the draft.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.
From Polians previous comments, do not take much consideration into Pro Day Workouts, but rather how that player performed in college. With that first pick, if a player has lots of intangibles or physcial atributes but didn’t produce how a first round pick should in college, then the Colts are most likely not going to pick that player. I know that was poorly stated…but here’s want Polian mentioned:
“I put more value on what they do in shoulder pads and helmets in four years," Polian said.
"Pro Days are about numbers, and we can gather the numbers," he said. "I would never grade a player based on how he performed on his Pro Day. I’m not good enough to do that."
“There are less variables at the combine," he said, "because the surfaces on which players run and all of that stuff varies from school to school, but they (colleges) run it (Pro Days) on the up and up. There’s nothing untoward about it. It’s just that there are more variables.”
“I would never judge a player based on how he physically performs at a Pro Day. It’s just about the numbers.”
Im not going to say that Polian will pick a Jarron Gilbert over a Evaner Hood, obviously there are factors that are involved. I just don’t think he looks into Pro Days as a player solidifying his spot or increasing his stock. *If it comes down to a Heyward-Bey or Nicks…I think he’ll go Nicks who had more production in college.
(* this comment between the WRs is not saying that I think the Colts should pick a WR, I was just giving an example)

I read the article
Polian’s been saying that for years, not just this year. And the majority of those are private workouts, no pro days. I gave more weight to workouts. And I stated that it was just a mock with who they’ve put more effort towards than just watching them, meaning pro days. I just wanted to see what they could get.

Oh no I agree
I read the article and felt like I had to put it somewhere, so a small reply to you felt like it was the best spot.

Oh and screw you for beating me to a post like this… I’ll still put mine up but will look like a moocher! ;) Nice work.
I like this.
If it came down this way, I would dance in the streets. The first four rounds are something to wish hard for.
I'm starting to think we've talked ourselves into a workout warrior
Watched some highlights of the Oklahoma-Mizzou game this year, and Ziggy Hood seemed pretty vanilla. He’s a great pick in the second round, but he’s not a difference-maker (to repeat what’s already been said in a thousand scouting reports). I still think it’s Peria Jerry in the first round, or a LB, a WR, Brandon Pettigrew, Knowshon Moreno. To get value at DT, they need to either move up about 10 picks (Saints could use a second-rounder) or move back into the early- to mid-second round and add to the stockpile of picks. I’d be willing to see them move up. Provided they can pay whomever they pick.
On the other hand, Oehser has made the observation that part of Polian’s success is not trying to get cute with his picks, so maybe I’m overthinking it.

Ziggy Hood...
Was one of two good players on a terrible defense. He was the sole concern for opposing OLs (Sulak was an after-thought). Peria Jerry played on a tough defense which forced opposing offenses to account for many players. In our system, Ziggy would be a beast. However, I’m not going to make any argument against picking Jerry if he’s available.
Gilbert
I actually like Gilbert more as a UT. I think his production mirrors his workout. 21.5 TFL, 9 sacks and a few PDF are pretty serious numbers. Not to mention he’s only been playing DT for a little over a season. Granted he was in a “lower” conference, but he was still the best lineman and his film doesn’t lie. He’s fast, he’s strong, and his upside is huge. Jerry, Hood, Gilbert would all be huge upgrades over what we have now. Or at least have the potential to be. Although I think Jerry/Gilbert would be sick with Jerry’s bull rush and Gilbert’s speed.
