Draft Gut Feelings

I have this overwhelming feeling that the Colts could go double Ohio State players in the draft.

If James Lauranitis is there at 27, I could feasibly see the Colts trading up to pick up Brian Robinske in the early second round.....if Polian would trade up to get Ugoh, this is certainly possible.  Talk about two guys with the right kind of motor with the Colts.  We have some conditional picks to play with...

With the Mark Sanchez pony race coming down the home stretch, who drafts Sanchez could greatly effect what falls to the Colts at 27.  Gonzalez moving the the Falcons shifts things a bit, and there are a few other players that could still shake things up.....

Jason Campbell, Brady Quinn, Braylon Edwards.....

Anyone else have any gut feelings how things go down tomorrow?

Screw me up Polian, you always do.

In Polian, I trust.

Gut feelings

according to Polian, you should never go with your gut when it comes to drafting. lol. just messing with you.

It would be nice to pick up both Robiske and Lauranitis

Heh

You know, oddly enough Wells, Robiskie, M. Freeman makes quite a bit of sense. Get both DTs in round 4. Not exactly what I’d want, but it makes sense.

You can’t trade compensatory picks FWIW. If that’s what you meant by playing with them. We can trade our 4th round pick though, and we only have one compensatory.

My gut feeling is that I wouldn’t be shocked to see either Jarron Gilbert of Brandon Pettigrew being taken at 27. I really wouldn’t.

Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

I like Glibert

but I think a first round DT would probably have to be able to play NT. It’s not a sure bet that Indy thinks Jerry or Hood can either, but I think they are more likely to be able to.

I really have no idea what they are going to do. There are players that I like and I don’t like*, but I can see Indy agreeing with the all the con arguments to my favorites and/or the pro arguments to the guys I don’t like.

To the contrary...

Finding a player who can play NT at a high level for the Colt is easier later. UT require A TON more talent and athletic ability. The players who would be fit that position will probably be gone sooner. The latest guy I could see us getting who would be a solid UT potentially is Mitch King in the 4th Round. Terrance Knighton in the 5th or 6th, and a number of big players like the Canadian could be late round selections who project to be dominant at NT compared to what we already have on the team.

Possible sleeper?

I posted this on a different thread too, but I think that if Hood AND Jerry are gone, and Polian is set on an early DT he might go with Ron Brace. Brace is projected to go before the Colts 2nd pick so this would be their chance unless they traded down 5 picks or so.

Polian has shown interest in Brace and NT is one of the biggest needs.

At the same time, I agree with those comments about picking up a solid NT later in the draft, either Taylor, Knighton or someone similar would work to compete with Antonio Johnson.

Gilbert would be another great UT pick if Jerry or Hood aren’t there, but I just don’t know if he would still be there at 61 and I don’t see Polian getting him at 27.

If I had eBucks I’d bet every person on this site that Polian doesn’t draft a DT in the first round. Not Hood, not Jerry, Not Gilbert, no one.

This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

All great comments.....

I just think if Lauranitis is there, its a no brainer, even if Ziggy is on the board. At the same time, I think we also learned that a good DT is hard to come by…..thanks Ed Johnson and Quinn Pitcock. Best player on the board, right?

Damn you Booger, why did you have to get hurt? Damn you Corey Simon for having some undisclosed, odd disease (I still think it was the syph myself).

I look forward to neglecting my family tomorrow and seeing how long it will take McShay and Kiper to go to full on UFC fighting. Is anyone else annoyed with Kiper and his ‘holier than now’ attitude? He looks like he could sh*t himself at anytime because of his level of seriousness. Watch how he ‘readjusts’ himself while talking, bouncing in his chair. Like he’s holding back some gas pains.

Gas-X bro. Gas-X.

I think it came out that Simon had polyarthritis

http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/polyarthritis

basically a shit-ton of his joints were fucked up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyarthritis

and he may have hidden it from the Colts to try to get paid for the season on IR.

I like Laurinaitis, but I don't think he is a no brainer

Brackett is still the defensive leader, and they could pick up a guy like Jasper Brinkley later in the draft and have he and Seward compete for MIKE, with the loser competing for SAM and it might work out well that way too.

Hood is almost perfect for the UT spot and would be a statement pick I think. The Colts are serious about improving the defense starting at the line and will fill depth for the most part with the other picks.

Of course no one knows what is going to happen yet and I can’t wait to see who they get!!

by AceOfSpades on Apr 25, 2009 1:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Brackett is a UFA going into the 2010 season. He most likely won’t be re-signed, so I think picking up Laurinaitis is a great idea.

This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

I'd be cool with Laurinaitis

I’d consider that a great pick.

Gut feelings...ugh.

As much as I want Hood or Jerry at #27, the past day or so I just don’t see that happening. I really want a good DT. Just. One.

However, if Polian sees fit to draft a OT, LB, RB or even WR I suppose that will be ok. And I swear, if we have problems defending the run during this upcoming season…I will…I will…complain ALOT.

Atlanta

Atlanta getting Tony pretty much stabs at least one of them in the heart. The only way I see them not taking a DT if either of them is available, is if Jenkins, Butler or possibly Davis falls. If Jerry isn’t taken by the Bucs at 19 (I have a feeling they’re taking him) or the Lions at 20, there’s a chance.

It also really depends on if the NFL teams are under the same impression that Hood is a 1st round talent like the media and the fans are.

Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

Would be nice...

to at least have the option of taking a DT that fits our system.

Dorsey

could be a stud in a Colts uniform if they could somehow trade for him.

by AceOfSpades on Apr 25, 2009 1:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Lions

I wonder if they would take one of those DTs at 20, but they also have a strong need at LB and may also want to get an OL guy to help out Stafford.

The Bucs are a curious case because they seem to be wanting to get bigger and Jerry isn’t all that big….but at the same time he has a lot of talent and they might still be interested. What about Freeman for the Bucs?

by AceOfSpades on Apr 25, 2009 1:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hope I'm wrong,

but I really can’t see Polian drafting a DT with our first round pick, even if Jerry is still on the board. I’ll be screaming and pleading with him to just do it, but I just don’t see it happening.
I don’t even think he would draft a LB.

My gut feeling is that Polian is going to use the first draft pick on some player that is going to utterly confuse and infuriate everyone on Stampede Blue.

it could be a WR, but I’m actually more inclined to guess that he’d use it on a CB.

by hahasound on Apr 24, 2009 2:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

my gut tells me...

CB as well. I’ve thought all along that Robiskie is the kind of no-risk player Polian likes to take in the first, but now I’m thinking like last year the WRs are going to do a freefall. So I’ll go with Alphonso Smith.

Gilbert or Laurinaitis could be the out of nowhere picks.

by GonzoBlue on Apr 24, 2009 3:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

My gut feeling is as follows:

1. If Moreno falls, Polian takes him
2. If Moreno is gone, and Laurinaitis is there, Polian takes him
3. If both Moreno and Laurinaitis are gone, and CB (hopefully Butler) is there, Polian takes him
4. If all of those guys are gone, he’ll go OT

Other than that, I have no idea.

This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

texas colts fan

i do not understand any of you the defense has always stunk the are there when they need to be the just dont wrap up the ball carrier they try to shoulder them down. We NEED A WIDE RECEIVER like harvin iglesius or some body peyton doesnt have any body as a wideout other than wayne

by hfd12 on Apr 24, 2009 3:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

he doesn't?

…first round pick Anthony Gonzalez?

not to mention, also-a-first-round-pick TE Dallas Clark, who often plays in the slot…
add to that two mid-late draft picks that have been used on WRs over the past two years, a couple of young TEs…
I’m not saying that we shouldn’t draft another WR, but honestly, Manning has quite a few good targets to choose from.

by hahasound on Apr 25, 2009 12:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Huh?

Not exactly sure what you were saying there, I think you forgot a few periods and "y"s too.

Anyways, WR is a need, but IMO not as big of a need as some other positions like DT, LB, possibly CB and OL.

If your point is that the defense is always bad, then why neglect it more and let it fail? If Peyton is as good as we think he is, he doesn’t need all 1st Round WRs to be effective. They can get someone in the 2nd or 3rd that can fill in too.

The perfect first day

Knowshon falls to 27. We take him. Then we trade our second round pick and our first round pick next year to the Cards for the 31 pick which we use to take Ziggy Hood. Perfect.

If Ziggy busts, we are then screwed for 2 more years.

It would seem like a good idea at the time, but I think they can get comparable talent later in the draft without trading away future picks. If anything, I would rather see them trade down and get more picks for solid players than trade up and give away picks.

Polian Loves Big 10 Players

I look for Laurinitis in the first and either D. Williams/Robiskie in the 2nd.
Call me shocked if he takes a DT in the first three rounds,,,
However with a new coaching staff things may change a little this year..

I doubt he'd have a chance

I think TB takes Jerry and Atlanta takes Hood. I think Atlanta has a very strong chance to go DT. And if the Redskins take Sanchez, TB will probably take Jerry over Freeman.

It’s funny, the main person who’s the X factor is Sanchez. The ripple effect he could cause is bigger than most everyone else now that Stafford’s off the board.

Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.
