My Final Mock Draft

My mock draft is finally finished.  I have thought long and hard and worked long and hard.  Now my mock draft is finished.  I decided to go with just one round to make sure it was as good as possible instead of doing 7 rounds and just trying to finish it before the draft.  Here it is after the jump.

Star-divide

1. Detroit-Matt Stafford/QB/Georgia

2. St. Louis-Jason Smith/OT/Baylor

3. Kansas City-Aaron Curry/ILB/Wake Forest

4. Seattle-Mark Sanchez/QB/USC

5. Cleveland-Brian Orakpo/DE/Texas

6. Cincinnati-Andre Smith/OT/Alabama

7. Oakland-Eugene Monroe/OT/Virginia

8. Jacksonville-Michael Crabtree/WR/Texas Tech

9. Green Bay-Tyson Jackson/DE/LSU

10. San Francisco-Aaron Maybin/rush LB/Penn State

11. Buffalo-Michael Oher/OT/Ole Miss

12. Denver-BJ Raji/DT/Boston College

13. Washington-Brian Cushing/OLB/USC

14. New Orleans-Malcolm Jenkins/CB/Ohio State

15. Houston-Clay Matthews/OLB/USC

16. San Diego-Eben Britton/OT/Arizona

17. NY Jets-Jeremy Maclin/WR/Missouri

18. Denver-Chris "Beanie" Wells/RB/Ohio State

19. Tampa Bay-Josh Freeman/QB/Kansas State

20. Detroit-Rey Maualuga/MLB/USC

21. Philadelphia-Robert Ayers/DE/Tennessee

22. Minnesota-Darrius Heyward-Bey/WR/Maryland

23. New England-Darius Butler/CB/UConn

24. Atlanta-Vontae Davis/CB/Illinois

25. Miami-Kenny Britt/WR/Rutgers

26. Baltimore-Brandon Pettigrew/TE/Oklahoma State

27. Indianapolis-Peria Jerry/DT/Ole Miss

28. Buffalo-Everette Brown/DE/Florida State

29. NY Giants-Hakeem Nicks/WR/North Carolina

30. Tennessee-Sean Smith/CB/Utah

31. Arizona-Knowshon Moreno/RB/Georgia

32. Pittsburgh-Alex Mack/C/Cal

This was tough.  I ended up caving and having Tampa take Josh Freeman.  It's a bad pick but I think it will happen.  Pettigrew doesn't fall far and goes to Baltimore.  Moreno could be the Colts pick if he falls that far.  I still have Sanchez going to Seattle.  Oakland would be thrilled if Eugene Monroe falls to them.  This will be a weird draft for sure.

I don’t understand any of these picks.

I get the Bills pick, but there’s no way Brown falls that far.

This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

Seattle will take Sanchez either to trade him or will have him be their Aaron Rodgers. Jacksonville will take Crabtree since Monroe and J. Smith are gone and they still don’t have a good young receiver. The Jets need a receiver to replace Coles. Denver was my toughest pick, but they do not have a great running back and Wells is probably the best player available on their board. Miami could use another receiver, but that pick could be Knowshon Moreno if they trade Ronnie Brown. I think Brown’s stock will plummet for no reason other than the illogical love of Aaron Maybin.

Seattle has no reason drafting Sanchez to ride the bench or be used as trade bait. What are they going to get for Sanchez anyways? There’s no way they are going to get their first round pick back that they just wasted on a QB. They could possibly pick up a 2nd and a 3rd, but that’s a huge gamble. Hasselbeck, if he can stay healthy, still has a few more good years, he’s only 33. They only have one good receiver, and a bunch of injury prone hacks. I just can’t see them passing up on the best receiver in the draft for a QB, no way.

I’m going to assume Crabtree is off the board, because then if the Jags want a receiver they should trade down. Taking Maclin or any other receive aside from Crabtree at the #8 spot would be stupid with Raji sitting there. It is possible Seattle passes on Crabtree, but it won’t be for Sanchez.

The Jets need a franchise QB. There’s no point in having a stockpile of receivers with someone like Kellen Clemens throwing to them. If they pass on a Sanchez or Freeman, they’d be retarded not to take Moreno here with Thomas Jones acting like a baby, not to mention he’s getting really old now. The Jets could maintain with the receivers they have if they pick up another running back or a franchise QB, not with a WR.

The Beanie Wells pick going to Denver was the worst one so far. Denver just signed Correll Buckhalter, Lamont Jordan, and J.J. Arrington in free agency, and still have Andre Hall, Peyton Hillis, Selvin Young, and Ryan Torain on the roster. What are they going to do with Wells? Or better yet, what are they going to do with the 3 free agent running backs they just signed if they draft Wells?

The Dolphins biggest needs are pass rusher, CB, RB, slot receiver. I don’t understand how Everette Brown would make it that far, but there’s no way the Dolphins would pass on him in favor of Britt who isn’t even a slot receiver. Kenny Britt is a nice receiver and all, but the only reason I picked up Percy Harvin with the Dolphins in the Stampede Blue draft a week or so ago is because Everette Brown, Knowshon Moreno, and Darius Butler were all gone, and Harvin was the BPA for the Phins. I noticed you didn’t have Harvin going to anyone in the first, and if I had to choose between Harvin and Britt, I’m taking Harvin. He’s too versatile and deadly to pass up.

This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

Tampa Bay

Taking Josh Freeman? Very interesting idea there, CH. Great mock.
