I like Taylor...

With Taylor you get a PURE NT. Starting lineup at DT is not Taylor and Moala most likely.

Mitch King...

Is very good. I like that we are improving the run stuffing nature of our D-Line. I think the Colts defense will be different this year.

by MasterRWayne on Apr 26, 2009 2:02 PM EDT reply actions

Cover 2

It will still be “cover 2” but i think we will change it up against teams that try and “run, run, run” against us. Put that USC DT at DE and other little wrinkled like that.

im eager

Taylor

Sorry meant to put Taylor there. My bad.

by MasterRWayne on Apr 26, 2009 2:06 PM EDT reply actions

Mitch King

I wouldn’t be COMPLETELY shocked if he fell real far due to his size and questions about his ability to be a DE at this level.

by bamock on Apr 26, 2009 2:08 PM EDT reply actions

How about...

Mitch King as the STEAL UDFA this year?

I'd love it

Doubt it happens, but that’d be awesome.

Heck of a player in Terrance Taylor

we got good value because he dropped his stats this last year in Michigan for obvious reasons, I just hope he stays in shape and he doesn’t retire after this year or anything (just like Quit Pitcock, lol) . I’m very excited about our D-line. Now go get a LB or a Punter!

David Burton to the COLTS!

Awsome...

I was hoping Polian would stock up on DTs and getting Moala and Taylor is what the Colts need

Probably Freeney Taylor Moala Brock on running downs and Freeney Moala Foster Mathis on passing

I have no idea about our O-line right now

They picked up so many FAs it’s hard to tell. I have a feeling they might let Johnson compete for one of the tackle spots though. Depending on who struggles more (Diem or Ugoh) he might end up starting over them later in the season.

by metal_militia on Apr 26, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I think

They might have some of the DEs compete to be LBs and cut the rest. We’re going to have way too many linemen for positions pretty soon. I think we’ll keep Foster and Dawson probably moves to DE, so somebody has to get pushed off the roster unless we’re going to carry a ton of depth.

I like Brown, but thought we should of got Beanie

I just think a big bruiser would be a perfect complement to Addai. Don’t get me wrong, I like Brown and he has great hands. I just think Beanie would be good in those 3rd and 3, 2, and 1 situations.

by coltsfan#1 on Apr 26, 2009 2:17 PM EDT reply actions

Brown

Has more power than Addai. He’s definitely a good compliment. It would’ve been fun to see Beanie, but I think Brown makes more sense. And Brown’s character and intelligence are intangibles that are definitely Colt oriented. He’s a great, intelligent, high value guy.

by monstersbox on Apr 26, 2009 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Right, I understand

But we really have never had a smashmouth guy like Beanie. Yeah, with our passing scheme, Brown is much better. I just see him getting hurt easily because the guy takes some hits and is not good at minimizing impact. Beanie however had a big injury last year and was rather ineffective. I do like Brown, but I would like to see us have a Bruiser as well.

by coltsfan#1 on Apr 26, 2009 2:23 PM EDT up reply actions

The problem with the bruiser Wells was the he was one dimensional. Any back who plays for Peyton has to be a factor in the passing a game, whether blocking or catching, and Brown fits that nicely

by Maedhros on Apr 26, 2009 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions

right, I said that already

On this issue...

I said that I like Mack, Britton and Robinson. What is wrong with that? They are all some of the best interior linemen this game has seen in several years. Its just pathetic and a little disconcerning, that you want to attack me on this, but hey I figure its a pathetic attempt at disguising how pathetic your own draft predictions were.

Whatever makes you feel better there buddy!

by MasterRWayne on Apr 26, 2009 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm not the one pimping how right me and my buddy were

because I picked one position they wouldn’t take then threw a party when the took one of the 6 other possible postions.

Everyone said so many different things about the draft they were bound to be right on some and wrong on most. You two are the only ones thinking you’re the shit because you got one of your many predictions right. That’s why people think you guys are being tools. Most people have had no interest in this shitstorm but check out those that have. Right off the bat another regular commenter called you a tool. 18to88 linked KR’s autofellatio recap as “King Richard of Stampede Blue is a Tool”. I went to bed and that post filled up with people calling KR out on all the stuff he got wrong.

by shake n bake on Apr 26, 2009 3:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Pimping?

I don’t pimp my sports ideas. Everyone knows I just pimp women! lol

Now what I stated was that the running game needed improving. We ranked 31st in it last year. Your idea was that nothing needed to change. That Addai just needed to be healthy despite the fact that he hasnt been healthy for two years.

Clearly Polian sees that Addai is not the answer. He can help and I think he will, but he is not the major answer at RB for us and thats why we drafted Brown because we have to improve our abilitiy running the ball in order to open up black action passes and convert in short yardage situations.

Bottom line is that I was right on this issue. We needed to upgrade our RB position and Polian spent a first round pick on it.

by MasterRWayne on Apr 26, 2009 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions

ok last question I have on this

were you right about Duke Robinson being a much better first round pick for Indy than Hakeem Nicks and that’s you’d have to be crazy to take Nicks over Robinson?

and Nicks went higher.

Lets try this as a yes or no.

Bigger question is...

Are you willing to accept that Brown is there to challenge Addai and that Addai… might not be the answer at RB?

For 3 months now

Everyone on this site said Addai needed a complement. Some people had differing ideas as to when we should take one, but you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who was opposed to taking a RB.

It’s such a stretch to think that the 31st ranked rush offense needs improving. And teams take RBs high all the time, even with high picks on their team. This isn’t new.

I just don't get the "being right" thing then

I’m thrilled we took another RB to have with Addai. I think the Front Office saw how 2006 went, when they had a 1A and a 1B, and they wanted to recreate that. What’s even better now is we have a younger version of 1A and 1B, which should improve the running game greatly.

We all want the same things here.

Dude

I believe that Polian sees there being equal issues of Addai being wore down due to injury and fatigue, and the O-line needing time to heal and mature in technique and conditioning. He ALREADY views the O-line problems as being taken care of, now he has taken the other issue. That is it. And yes, Addai does need to prove that he can still be a 1A back now that he has a running mate or he is gone. That is pretty certain. You act like it is already written in stone.

I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation

by Bullard47 on Apr 26, 2009 3:40 PM EDT up reply actions

True

Hey if Addai proves he is 1A that is great. That means we have two really good RB’s which was my logic behind spending a 1st-2nd round pick on it. If Addai continues to struggle we now have Brown. Either way its win-win.

Everyone wants help on the O-line

But where? LT? RT? Guard? I don’t think we needed to spend anything above a sixth round on offensive line. Pollak will have another year under his belt at RG. He’ll be fine. Johnson did well at LG. Saturday is a Pro Bowler and Richard will be great. Ugoh should start at tackle whether that is at left or right. We also have a lot of money wrapped up in Diem. I don’t think we needed a tackle before the end of the day.

As I said in on of my pre-draft posts. At most we’re likely looking for a back-up OT, maybe a guy who could take over for Diem in a year or if he goes down and I’m thinking a late pick like 6th or 7th Round would be all that is necessary to get that. Despite the fact that I think in terms of “pure need”, OT was the 2nd highest “need” for the team.

belichick wears sweats everywhere

but puts on a suit to sit in the damn war room on draft day

by CooperManningsNotTrying on Apr 26, 2009 4:14 PM EDT reply actions

maybe that's why the draft is his weakest point

he makes all his coaching and free agent moves in sweats, then changes into a tie and drafts Maroneys and can’t get a late rounder to stick on the roster.

I got Summer hatin' on me cuz I'm hotter than the sun. Spring hatin' on me cuz I ain't never sprung

I know

that that advanced stats article didn’t say much for belichick on draft day, but is he really historically weak on draft day? I know Maroney’s been a disappointment, but what about Brady, or Jerod Mayo? and right now the guys on NFL Network are fellating Belichick on air.

by CooperManningsNotTrying on Apr 26, 2009 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

it's his weakest point

Replacing Hunter Smith

and they say the guy can hit 50-60 yard field goals but is inconsistent. Probably gives us better odds than having Vinny not be able to kick that far.

I'm expecting him to Punt and Kickoff

maybe some crazy Raiders-esque 60 yarders at the end of halves

I got Summer hatin' on me cuz I'm hotter than the sun. Spring hatin' on me cuz I ain't never sprung
Winter hatin' on me cuz I'm colder than Y'all. And I will never, I will never, I will never Fall.

He can't top the 76 yarder the Raiders tried last year

The Cosbys are painful to watch

well at the league minimum he only needs to play

around 5 years to make over 2 million

2nd year in a row

we’ve drafted an OL with an alternate spelling of “Jamie” (Jamey/Jaimie) in the seventh round.

what are the odds? :P
