Colts might re-sign Keiaho

according to the Indianapolis Star the Indianapolis Colts might re-sign Freddie Keiaho.

here is a link to the story on Indystar.com

this wouldnt be a bad move in my personal opinion.  its obvious they waited until after the draft to see if they could find some talent there.  since the team opted not to draft anyone at linebacker, why not bring back someone who can at least contribute on special teams.

I hope

he returns as a backup. Granted he has more starting experience then Wheeler, but Im really looking forward to seeing what Wheeler can do. Keiaho regressed alot from 2007 to 2008 and I think the Colts took notice.

Is it April 25th yet?

Keiaho would probably be the backup WILL, and would only have a chance win the job if Session regresses with the position change

Wheeler vs Hagler at the SAM.

Brackett solid in the middle backed up by Seward.

Just because they didn't re-sign him right away

Doesn’t mean that they still don’t like Keiaho, nor does it mean he’s lost his starting job if he returns. I’d actually say that if Keiaho’s re-signed he’s #1 to start out camp at WILL and Session is the #1 to start at SAM. Granted Keiaho may end up being a third stringer on the team next season, but there’s nothing to lead me to believe that right now.

Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

but they brought Hagler back first

so either Keiaho was really trying to hold out for more than the veteran minimum or they like Hagler better and Hagler will be fighting for a the SAM spot at best.

You never know...

Don’t assume stuff like this from the outside. His agent wasn’t ready to play ball? The Colts were targeting a LB in the draft who wasn’t there? There are so many factors, influences, and possibilities that assuming Keiaho was either not a priority or was assumed to be a bust or whatever is knee-jerk.

What I know is that Keiaho showed a lot of promise and would be aided greatly by the DTs we just added to the roster. No he’s not a great coverage guy and that is the biggest reason he might be on thin ice. Otherwise, he wasn’t a Pro Bowl performer last year but he was solid for the year mostly, made some mistakes but was in the position to make the most mistakes with the weaknesses on the interior of the DL.

If we don’t re-sign Keiaho I won’t be devastated. If we do re-sign Keiaho I will think our LB position and competition this summer only got stronger. Keiaho has a lot of experience at the Will over the last two years and could be used to help other along if nothing else.

if we can't assume things

(while acknowledging that there are other things that could be going on)

we aren’t going to have much to talk about around here until TC starts.

Come on Shake...

What about my response removes the ability to have a lot to talk about before TC? Everyone here is free to make any posts or assumptions they want. I’m just saying that assuming the Colts like one player more than the other based on when their contracts are signed or not signed isn’t realistic and you know that. Say the Colts like Keiaho better but could only re-sign Hagler for cap reasons or something similar. The variables are so many and we know so little from the outside that making assumptions on that seems fruitless. But, having said that, maybe that’s exactly what it means :)

It's all the information we have

so I think making assumptions based on it is natural. We just have to be able to adjust our assumptions and views as more information comes in.

Either way

the position battles in training camp just got more interesting.

What about Michael Okwo..

Is he still on the roster and if so where does he fit in..

by Memphis Red Dogs on Apr 28, 2009 7:05 PM EDT reply actions

He projects as a WILL

Was drafted to replace Lance Briggs when he was demanding a trade. Jacked up his knee, never played. 3rd round pick who was touted as being a great fit for a T2 team.

Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.
