Is Mike Mayock an idiot?

I've just been on nfl.com watching a video of supposed experts unanimously declaring that the broncos ABSOLUTELY NEED to bring in a new franchise QB via the draft, and that they should be willing to trade up in order to guarantee getting Mark Sanchez. I'm sorry, but that has to be one of the most retarded things I have ever heard. Kyle Orton is a more than passable NFL QB who has the potential to thrive in the new McDaniels offence. And Simms, well, I'd frankly be delighted if we had him as a backup to #18. If he can get back to his pre-injury form there might even be a pretty good training camp QB battle between neckbeard and the spleen.

With the picks the broncos have, they have an amazing chance to completely overhaul a frankly terrible defense, If I were a bronco fan, I'd be devastated if they didn't look defense on at least four of their top 5 picks, which are all in the first 3 rounds, and I'd want a RB with the other. To me, the rest of their offense is actually pretty good, young with excellent potential. If they trade their 2 first round picks to move up and get Sanchez as nfl.com suggests surely that is the worst decision in the history of their franchise. I don't think the Broncos FO is that monumentally stupid, just Mike Mayock but i'd be interested to see what you guys think.

I agree that it would be dumb but the real reason I’m commenting is simply to +1 the “neck-beard vs. the spleen” comment.

"If you don't [draft me], I promise you I'll come back and kick your ass for the next 15 years."

LOL! I’m relieved, thought that spleen thing might be a little too close to the bone (no pun intended)!

The picks

The Broncos do indeed need to overhaul their defense, but you do not win in this league without a big league QB. The team Denver just traded Cutler to is living proof.

I think

You let Orton and Simms compete and go with one of them for a year. If one of them plays like a franchise QB, you’re set. If they struggle and don’t show enough potential, you draft a QB next year with one of your two first round picks. I keep hearing around here that the QB’s in next year’s draft are far better than the ones in this draft anyway, right?

They can shore up that D with their picks this year. Maybe they consider trading Brandon Marshall, too.

Well, I wouldn’t say all of the QBs coming out next year are better, but there is one that is light years ahead of anyone in this draft and next year, that being Sam Bradford.

This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

Eh

I don’t know about that. I’ll have to see how he turns out, but as of now I’m not thinking it’ll be fantastical.

Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

For some reason (which I don't understand)

the “experts” all think Tebow won’t make the transisition very well to the NFL.

But I love me some Bradford, even over McCoy…McCoy seems smaller than 6’2" – but he is certainly mobile…all most too much so. He kind of reminds me of Vick. I like mobility in a QB, but I don’t like when they rely on it so much. Checkdowns seem to consist of 1 look and run.

I don't

Tebow would be great for a team like the Dolphins to use as a Wildcat QB. As a pure pocket passer? meh. Florida has great receivers and a great offensive line which I thnk help mask how he isn’t incredibly accurate with the ball. It’s the same school that made Rex Grossman look amazing. If Tebow turns out to be a good qb, more power to him, but I’d be really nervous if I was a fan of the team that drafts him.

Orton

Sounds exactly like the type of QB McDaniels wanted anyway.

And yes, Mayock is a complete idiot. That’s the same dude that said Gilbert had athletic ability, but no production to back it up. Too bad Gilbert had a better year than Raji, Jerry, or Hood.

Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

Ya I think Orton is a good QB

He has the potential to have a good year considering he will actually have receivers to throw to now

Orton

I agree, I think Orton is heading in to his contract year. The Broncos wil give him this year to see if he can flourish in McDaniels system, if he can’t, well they have 2 picks in next years first round to addres the situation.

ha!

sorry, yeah, I keep it there to remind me of the bad times, make me appreciate a healthy team, LOL!

I think Mcdaniel’s is looking to start a patriot like draft scenario in which they trade a pick this year for some other team to move up in the draft, while acquiring picks for future years…
