Rate Stampede Blue's Draft Coverage: Pre-Draft

I do this because I absolutely LOVE it when people insult me and call me a douche for the work I do. That said, I'd like to know what you, our loyal readers of Stampede Blue, thought of our 2009 NFL Draft coverage. This will be broken up into three parts with polls for pre-draft, draft day coverage, and post-draft coverage.

For the Pre-Draft, I'm including our work on the Who The Hell Will They Draft series, our 2009 Community Mock Draft, and the Road to the Draft series Colts Homer worked on.

Please select options on the poll and post your comments in the comments area.

Where’s the “I don’t really care about pre-draft analysis so I didn’t really read it” option?

by eltharion_doa on Apr 30, 2009 1:00 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It was in the "we don't care about your vote in that case" option.

That was right next to the “Why would you care to vote or comment if that is how you feel anyhow” option.

Must not have shown up on your browser. Sorry for the glitch…

I didn't (and won't) vote

But no need to be a dick about it.

I thought it was funny.

I like creative responses like that. It didn’t seem mean to me.

Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Man, I need a life...

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: Every time the Colts have played the KC Chiefs in the playoffs, they have gone on to at least the AFC Championship game.

huh

Hm, I would hope the opinions of people who regularly read the site but thought some of the pre-draft analysis was way way over the top and too much would be cared about.

Personally, I would love an option for “Cheezus, enough with the mock drafts. Mock drafts are always nearly 80% wrong anyway and end up just being masturbatory filler in one of the slower parts of the NFL year”

So I’m torn. While the writing for most of the mock drafts was good, they were sorta useless. Not sure how to vote.

My favorite stuff so far as been mgrex’s factors of winning posts. THat’s some freaking amazing reading right there.

Yeah, I've enjoyed that

I don’t really mind the draft stuff if people are interested – I just find it cloying and, because it was so pervasive, I’ve not been coming here as much and have missed a few of the winning factor posts.

My thoughts

1. I loved bamock’s YOU DECIDE series. Great analysis and interesting matchups. I like the WTHWTD series, but the YD series seemed more realistic because that forces you to consider relative value to the team… something BP has to really do on draft day.

2. While the mock draft series was interesting to watch, I wish each individual pick didn’t have to occupy so much space on the front page. With a big NFL Draft logo + a picture + an explanation + a poll question, it was a pain to scroll through.

3. I really liked the various draft boards that people posted and it’s too bad they were posted so late in the process.

bamrock

I excluded bamrock from the pol analysis because he isn’t a resident writer. This poll is more for us evaluating our resident writers and how we (myself included) covered the pre-draft stuff.

That said, bamrock’s stuff might have been some of the best pre-draft stuff not just on this blog, but ALL of them. If anything, polls and comments help me and the rest of us determine if our stuff was on par with bamrock’s and other reader’s contributions.

Seriously though, I haven’t voted yet but I think it was “ok.” It could definitely be a lot better next season.

OK, here's a little sunshine up your skirt

The 2009 draft coverage is maybe the perfect microcosm of why this site is my #1 option for Colts news and one of my favorites sites in general:

First, the amount of work that went into pre-draft coverage is staggering. Any one of those articles was more interesting and informative than 95% of what we see in the Star. Big kudos to all who contributed.

Second, what a perfect example of the “community” part of a community forum. This is clearly not a one-way site where one sits by passively reading content. The editors and resident writers do a great job of providing the framework (as well as solid content), and then people like Bamrock come in and add a new dimension. And all of us make our voices heard in one way or another (seriously – where else has there been such in-depth, spirited debates about Addai, WRs, DTs, etc.?) I may not comment as much as some others, but I feel like part of a vibrant Colts community. Given that I’m sitting 700 miles away in NYC, it’s nice to feel that connection to my home team and fans.

Third, this site never rests on its laurels or gets lazy. I’ve been coming here since 2006, and I’ve seen remarkable growth and evolution in these last few years. The sheer volume of material that is provided is impressive, and the writing and analysis continues to become sharper and more detailed. And now here is the editor-in-chief asking for ways to improve what I believe is already the best pre-draft Colts coverage I’ve seen. With so many sports sites or personalities becoming full of themselves when they taste a little success, it’s nice to think that my favorite will continue to find ways to improve.

I want to acknowledge everyone who makes this site work, especially BBS, Shake, MRW, mgrex03, Jake, King Richard, Colts Homer, and a special shout-out to Bamock for his recent work. All of us make this site what it is, and what it is is the best Colts site I’ve found. Thanks to all.

Thus endeth my Kumbaya session.

Podcasts...

More of those would be cool. I enjoyed listening to the post draft ones.

Gotta love those podcasts.

Must be a pain to get all of the people together for it though.
