With the 12th Pick in the 2009 Stampede Blue Community Mock Draft, Denver selects...

Sbmockdraftlogo_medium

UPDATE: This draft pick was made following the Jay Cutler trade. Denver and mgrex03 will draft again in Round 1 at pick #18. ColtsFanNChiTown will draft for the Chicago Bears in Round 2.

Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State

12. Denver Broncos

Drafter: mgrex03

Reasons for drafting: "Of all the positions on defense, CB looks like to be best off, with Champ Bailey and Andre Goodman (signed as FA from Miami). However, Bailey isn't getting any younger (12th season upcoming), and Goodman isn't a spring chicken either (9th season upcoming). A bigger need is probably at LB or DE, especially with the switch from the 4-3 to the 3-4 under new DC Mike Nolan. However, I think reaching for Tyson Jackson this early should not be in the cards, especially now that they have pick #18 as well, and Cushing and Matthews have more question marks than does Jenkins.

Since 1990, OSU DBs drafted in the first round include Shawn Springs, Antoine Winfield, Nate Clements, Chris Gamble, and Donte Whitner, and only 1.5 busts (Ahmed Plummer had injury issues, but was a starter in 5 of his 6 seasons). I'd call that a very good track record for future success. Jenkins will start right away at the nickel, and will be able to learn from 2 of the best DBs in the NFL (Bailey and Dawkins)."

Dude

We used the weekend to resolve all picks that the Cutler trade affected. Relax already. Most other sites doing mocks are at the same spot.

Its not anyones fault...

Its just that email correspondence is slow with so many people involved. I think in the future we should get as many people together in a chatroom and just do a mock draft rounds 1-3. With everyone there it wouldn’t take long than 30 minutes.

Just an idea.

it would be hard to get everyone together

but I think it would work well in 10-12 pick chunks. Knock out a 3rd of a round in a few minutes and you don’t have to coordinate nearly as many people.

I figure that they have so many issues...

Hey BBS,

Where do you go to make the new jerseys? I would love to play around with that…

I just don’t want anyone to draft my guy. Picking this late sucks.

This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.
Oh and I write words and stuff for Stampede Blue.
