With the 15th Pick in the 2009 Stampede Blue Community Mock Draft, Houston selects...
Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
15. Houston Texans |

Drafter: stuart0908 Reasons for drafting: "The Texans had a few glaring needs going into this draft. There is a question mark at linebacker with DeMeco Ryans not happy with his contract and no one to pair with Zac Diles (who is returning from injury). Also a pressing need is secondary help, but with no one at this point on the board left worthy of a top 15 pick, Tyson Jackson helps fill another need at DE opposite Super Mario. This will take the pressure off of him, and release the double teams, allowing him to continue to be a dominant DE. Jackson also has great versatility to rotate through the D Line and play next to Okoye to further his development and switch back and forth with Antonio Smith who is also a versatile player from DE or DT. With this pick, the Texans could have one of the most formidable D Lines in the NFL." |

Sorry stuart but..
As a Texans fan I hate this pick. First of all we have filled our DE needs with the acquisition of Antonio Smith in the offseason, and he’s not going anywhere. Second of all Jackson is a much better fit for a 3-4 defense, something the Texans haven’t used in a couple of years.
Our biggest needs are (In this order)
OLB
Safety
Offensive Tackle
Running Back (Power Back)
Corner
It’s true we hate DT Travis Johnson for the most part and would love to see him replaced in the near future, he is still going to be given another chance, after all it was only a few years ago we spent a first rounder on him. DT won’t be a position of need for at least another year, and even if it was we’d be more likely to spend a later pick on it than pick 15.
Based on how yall’s draft has gone so far a better pick would have been Cushing, Oher, or even Wells (even though we still would have hated you taking a RB so early)

At first glance...
I didn’t like this pick either (I’m also a Texans fan). But after looking at who was left on the draft board, I understand the predicament you were in. None of the players I would have taken were available. If this scenario plays out on draft day, and we can’t trade down … I’ll be sad. I guess Cushing would be the guy in that situation, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Texans pick someone out of left field (like they did last year with Duane Brown). Frankly, Peria Jerry would be a good pick, too.
Now, I have to address this notion of us taking an OT with this pick. I really don’t see that happening. I know everyone thinks we still need to revamp our offensive line, but the truth of the matter is … we don’t! Our o-line is actually pretty solid if Duane Brown improves in his second year. I guess people still think our o-line is terrible because it was so bad for so long. The only spots that need addressing on the o-line are center and depth. Center could be a possibility later in the draft or if we trade down.
