Hagler resigned
http://www.colts.com/ is reporting that Hagler resigned. I wonder why it took so long. He must have tested the market and discovered there wasn't much interest.

Yay!
I really don’t think he got a fair shot at the end of this year. He was a starter, lost his job to injury, then was passed over for an inferior player because Bustah could be brought back next year for cheaper if he worked out.
I’m happy to have Hagler back. That give Indy 3 LBs that we know can be starting caliber, instead of 2 with 2 guys we don’t know about.

Definitely Agree With That...
I still don’t quite understand why he wasn’t put in the lineup last year when he said over and over again that he was healthy again but Dungy stuck with Buster.

the nail in the coffin was
Hagler started when they ran the 4-4 vs Tennessee and started at the end of the year/in the playoffs.
They thought Hagler was better when he first came back from the PUP.
They thought Hagler was better at the end of the year.
but in the middle they kicked him out of the lineup basically to give a wavier wire pickup a tryout.

Wow
LB keeps dropping on our team need list. With Hagler and Seward we’ve lost only Keaiho and moved Session (probably a better Will anyway) over to his former position. Now we have a contest between Hagler, Wheeler and potentially Seward for SAM. Our LB competition is going to be SICK this year. If we do draft a LB in this draft he’ll have to be pretty freakin’ good and the value will have to be way too good to pass up. Any fantasies of Laurinaitis are probably out the window.

Eh
That’s not 100% true, in fact, it could be the other way around. Since Coyer values LBs, and they’re obviously trying to work on and upgrade the LB position, it could mean there’s a contingency plan in place if they don’t get a LB, but they might want a LB. They were obviously willing to let them walk in the first place. We could end up drafting Laurinaitis and releasing 2-3 LBs. In fact, I’m almost positive we draft a LB and possibly pretty high now. I guess what I’m saying is, almost everyone was saying we needed to upgrade LB prior to the end of the season. So I’m not exactly sure why we don’t need to draft a LB now because we’re signing the LBs we let walk that were there last year aside from Seward. And Seward wasn’t a starter, so we really don’t know. You’re right though, this is going to be a pretty insane competition. Hopefully they can find SOMEONE to step up out of 8 LBs. Obviously Coyer and the Colts are hoping it makes them up their game. But like I said, I see this as more towards reinforcing the fact that we’re not happy with our LBs and increasing our chance to take a LB.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

I agree...
That if we do draft one it will have to be early… like Rd. 2-3 or it wouldn’t make a whole like of sense at this point.
LB – Gary Brackett
LB – Clint Session
LB – Philip Wheeler
LB – Tyjuan Hagler
LB – Adam Seward
LB – Michael Okwo
LB – Rufus Alexander
LB – Jordan Senn
It better be a BIG name or I don’t see the value in it. Of course, that probably means we’ll draft 3 LBs. LOL

The Colts aren’t going to land any of the big names, those guys will be gone before the Colts even pick in the first round. The other guys, like Clint Sintim, are 3-4 OLBs and wouldn’t mesh well in the Colts systems. There will be a lot of good-great talent in rounds 4-6.
This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

Exactly
I think this is more due to the dropoff in talent at LB being much higher than most other positions in the draft. I think they may be setting up to jump on a Laurinaitis, but still having enough options to do a battle royale for start spots next season. It’s not happening at other positions because for the most part, there’s viable options in every round at every position. And to tell you the truth, the only LB in the “elite” level of the draft that really fits the Colts system anyway is Laurinaitis. And I think there’s a strong chance he’s available at 27 with his 40 time.
To be perfectly honest though, I know which two LBs I hope the Colts target, and they’re both not round 1 or 2. I want Jason Phillips and/or (preferably and) Jasper Brinkley.
Hey, do me a favor, it just occurred to me that one of the most likely positions we’ve obviously spent major efforts trying to fix (which means there’s a strong possibility we draft one) hasn’t had a YOU DECIDE. I put stuff up quite a bit, but it’s generally in the course of a conversation and buried in text so only shake, Richard, and peytonsthebest read it. I already have a good bead on a good chunk of the LBs, but you should do a Brinkley vs Phillips and a Laurinaitis vs Matthews.

I can do that.
I did do a Jason Williams v. Zack Follett LB YOU DECIDE thread. However, I’ve been focusing on 2 – 3 YOU DECIDE threads per select positions. LB would probably be worthy of that kind of a focus, even with the Hagler/Seward additions. I read your stuff and enjoy it, in the response posts.

Don’t forget about Dannell Ellerbe man.

If you want me to include Dannell Ellerbe...
Provide me with a suitable match for comparison. Otherwise, there will likely be some guys who I will provide an in depth “scouting report” on but not a YOU DECIDE or comparison with a poll. Either way.

That was directed at monstersbox. I don’t really have anyone else to compare to him.

Gerald McGrath or the Pitt MLB (Klopp or something)?
they are the LBs I’ve seen projected around Ellerbe.

Special Teams
someone has to play special teams too, and it usually isn’t the starters. I can see them drafting a LB or two still.

He’ll just be depth. Must not have been many teams interested in him.

We need a rule
That for any player that signs again we say “re-sign,” not “resign…” made me wonder what he could resign from! ;-)

Maybe
Maybe Hagler was resigned to re-sign with the Colts because lack of interest from other teams. There you go.

Good. When he's healthy he's played well for the Colts.
Id be ok with Session at WILL, Bracket at MIKE, and Haggler at the SAM. If Wheeler beats out Haggler that’s fine also.
At first I thought that the addition of all the LB’s would change the colts draft stratagy. They would be looking for a LB in the late rounds or not at all, after all they have three former starters signed. But, all these free agents LB’s are signed to one year contracts. If Polian thought they were long term starters then he would have offered the FA’s more then one yr contracts. Even with the all these LB’s I still think they pick another LB at the start of the second day or at the end of the first day of the Draft. My guess is BP will draft a LB in the 3rd or 4th round.
Defense if more important then breathing.
