Bills looking to trade Roscoe Parrish - Colts?

With Owens, Lee Evans, James Hardy, and Josh Reed, the Bills are looking to trade Roscoe Parrish according to John Clayton.  Here's the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4057069

Parrish, 26,  was drafted in the 2nd round back in '05 and is going into his fifth year.  He's not the biggest, 5'9 171 pounds, but he could be that slot wr/return specialist the Colts could possibly need.  He's more affective returning punts than kickoffs, in which he has returned one punt for a touchdown the past 3 years and is one of the best in the league in that category.  I'm not sure what the Bills are asking, but I wouldn't go lower than a 5th for him (if the Colts even have Cap Room to get him).  He's been arrested before back in '08 when charged for DUI, so that should possibly slim the chances.  Even though he's an explosive player, I do not see the Colts making this type of move.  What do you guys think?

If Caldwell was serious

about improving the special teams, then this would be a good move. But I don’t expect Bill to pull the trigger. That is, unless he had already planned to take a KR somewhere in the draft.

Is it April 25th yet?

I'd like Parrish

Here’s a good plan, look. Take Parrish, draft a good receiver in the 1st-2nd round. Then, use Parrish as a No.3 receiver until the rookie develops, and then keep Parrish as No.4 and return man. The problem here would be salary cap and that his would mean byebye to Pierre Garcon. Roy Hall is already out lol. What do you think?

Honestly? That’s the most retarded thing I’ve heard in a while. You’re talking about wasting 2 drafted players who haven’t been given a shot in favor of a kick return specialist and an unproven rookie. When is it going to end around here?

This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

I think you need to work on your reading comprehension skills d00d. I didn’t call him retarded, I said his idea was retarded, which it was.

Your right

It wasn’t the brightest idea of the day. Clark would be our slot guy before the “new drafted guy” developed. Even Pierre would help there. I really think Roy won’t be around by September. Oh, and now I understand what furycolt meant back in my Mark Sanchez post, about being accepted, lol.

Let's just say...

KingRichard doesn’t have finesse when he shares his opinion. However, if you look through the language he’s using to what he’s arguing, all is good :)

Only if he (Hall) is injured again.

I think those have been freak streaks of bad fortune. There is a reason that the Colts have kept him on the roster at times when they could’ve really used the roster spot. They carried an injured Roy Hall because they see something that they like, or at least something that they want to see in action.

I want to see him play, too. I think that he could be a beast for us. There is no way they just cut him after carrying him the past two years, unless he has another crazy injury occur. Which would basically say, “I’m jinxed. Cut all ties and move on.”

I do like his physicality on STs

I remember the last game of the season against the Titians, he put a huge hit during that onside kick to free up the ball in which the Colts recovered. I just wish that physicality is shown after a reception and him just plowing over defenders.

Now this...

Could be a decent move for the right price. But I disagree with the idea of getting ANOTHER WR if we get Parrish. Slot receiver and return man. DONE. Leave it alone.

by bamock on Apr 10, 2009 12:51 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

The Colts have enough receivers as it is..IMO…so if they traded for Parrish there is even less of a need. But I like this move for the right price. How many years are left on his contract?…if it’s his final year, then I think it would need to be a sign-and-trade, which I doubt the Colts can afford..

by yellowsnow on Apr 10, 2009 7:43 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think

he’s got 3 years left, with 1 million dollars in the first and $1.025 million in the second and third…

Probably...

A decent contract level to take on if the Colts FO really likes him. However, what we’d have to give up, while picking up that salary is the key in whether we’ll go for it.

I might get flamed for this (won’t blame you), but I really don’t care about signing a KR specialist. I just want a guy who can at least return kicks and stuff past the 20 yard line and won’t fumble the damn ball in meaningful games, at the worst times. If we picked up someone like Hester and he wants more money than he deserves, and for some reason Polian agrees to pay him, teams are just going to kick away from him and make an expensive, useless toy.

Kicking away

Kicking away from a player isn’t useless, far from it. That’s actually how much a player like Hester adds to a team. Other teams are willing to forfeit 20-30 yards of field position to keep it away from players like him. It’s not easy to kick a ball out of bounds, you lose a ton of distance. Teams were either kicking it out of bounds on kickoffs on purpose, or trying to squib it and the Bears would just let it bounce out of bounds and take it on the 40 just to keep him from touching it. Hester was 10 times more of a threat to score than the Bears offense was. He WAS their offense.

I’m trying to figure this out exactly. 50 yards on a football field is 50 yards right? So why would 50 yards returning a kick not be as good as calling a fair catch and then throwing a 50 yard pass? I mean it’s the exact same thing, it’s the exact same distance. You’ve just moved your team up the same distance someone else did. With a player like Hester, every single one of those punts or kickoffs is basically the same thing as Peyton seeing Gonzo or Reggie wide open and chucking it down the field. Who knows, maybe they catch it, maybe they don’t, but in terms of Hester, he was catching those 50 yard bombs on a pretty consistent basis. Not to mention it’s electrifying and can either completely charge your team and deflate someone elses team in a blink of an eye.

By the way, Hester had 1874 return yards in 2007, 4 punt return TDs, 2 kick return, 2 receiving and 299 receiving yards. So Hester’s contribution to the team was 2173 yards and 8 TDs. I’d say that’s worth quite a bit. I think you undervalue what a great returner could do for our offense.

And maybe Parrish just never developed as a receiver because, well I mean he had J.P. Lossman and T. Edwards trying to get him the ball. I wouldn’t give up too much for me, maybe we should trade 1 of our 30 LBs for him. Now if you were talking about Cribbs, that’s a different story. I’d give up a 5th for Cribbs.

Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

The only thing that interests me about Parish

is his kick return ability. He has a nack for at least breaking one for a long return on a punt or kickoff. His receiving skills are mediocre, so there wont be much value their. I think if we were to trade for him, a seventh would be suitable, though I think I would rather keep it, knowing that Polian has success with players drafted in the later rounds. So, id pass on Parish.

I'm no Parrish expert...

Maybe you all have followed the Bills games closer than I did (it wouldn’t take much). However, on NFL.com in the videos section I took a look at some of what Roscoe did “highlights-wise” last year. He seems like a deep threat, something people around here have been pandering for, and a potentially dominant return man. Add to that we’d STILL have Hall, Garcon, Giguere and Smith for the WR position and I can’t see what’s not to like. If he sucks as a WR, fine, pass him up, unless we can get a return man who’s had only a short time to prove himself for very little in return (no pun intended).

Yeah I think Parrish is an interesting thought

Like monsterbox said, Trent Edwards and Lossman were the two QBs he had to work with, and they definately arent Manning. Plus the Colts do a great job of getting guys to play at their full potential.

The whole question here is the price.

He would be a huge help to our ST, which have needed help. There’s a new sheriff in town, boys, and he might see this as a worthy pursuit.

After getting burned on the McCargo trade

I’ll say I’m skeptical on dealing with the Bills.

by Marik on Apr 11, 2009 4:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Josh Cribbs? I’d give up a 3rd for Cribbs. He’s arguably the best returner in the game. I’d have no problems with him playing 0 time outside of special teams.
