Yeah, I am scratching my head too...
re-signing internally (our specialty) or shopping “out there…” (our Achiles heel)
The timing seems odd—all the glamorous FAs are taken. And the guys left are mere residue. I guess based on that my take is that it’s internal extensions—Bullett? Lock him up before he has a chance to get overpaid in free agency.
Or… some weird cloned hybrid of Edge/Marv?
Cass is right, I was mildly concerned a couple months ago and now we seem to be in the best cap situation in years. Manning’s still a $25M stone around our necks for 2009, no? (Poor metaphor, but you know what I mean.) I thought he’d be reworked first simply because it would likely yield the greatest cushion. Shows what I know.
I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.
He can't be reworked any more....
If we “rework” Manning’s contract we tear up the current one and sign him to a new on. Say… a 5 years deal (there’s 4 left on his current contract)… which friendlier cap hits? shrugs
I would say Derrick Brooks is a possibility
but they just signed K-O and Hagler so I doubt that anymore.
I don’t see a lot of glaring needs anymore so if they added anyone it would only be a bonus for me. Therefore, I think it is so they can either free up space to re-sign guys currently on the team or use it to sign the new draft picks.
I would like to see Chad Ocho Cinco traded to a team that already has a #85 on the roster. Then, I would like to see #85 refuse to give up his jersey number to Chad Ocho Cinco. That would make my day....
Free Agency.
I think we’re gearing up for a Cory Simon type move. If that doesn’t work out, I imagine we will look at resigning internally.

I think we are just keeping extra money
to replace guys who get injured this season. You can’t go into the season with 0 cap space.
Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.
Man, I need a life...
Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: Every time the Colts have played the KC Chiefs in the playoffs, they have gone on to at least the AFC Championship game.
Nice.
This type of thing is easily overlooked, but it is one of Polian’s specialties. More much-needed cap space for us.
Remember when we were $3 million over the cap? Sure seems like a distant memory now, huh?
