Question of rivalry
Which team out the rivals in the AFC South is most hated by Colts fans? Why? For me it's the Titans. Jeff Fisher is so smug, and it's perpetuated by his team. I'm a Jaguar fan, so naturally I dislike the Colts. I could never hate them, because Tony Dungy is such a great man. Also Peyton is amazing and funny...so it's hard not to like that charm. I hate losing to the Colts, but I halfway like the team because of the men that represent it. The Texans, for me, are like the annoying little brother that has gotten big enough to start winning half the fights that you get into. The Titans, I don't know what it is beyond Fisher, I cannot stand. So how do you all feel? Do you hate the Jaguars more than the rest? Or could you care less as long as you're on top of the mountain? Just curious...

Honestly don't mind
as long as the Colts are on top. If I had to pick one it would probaly be the Titans. I dislike each team that is in the division, but I respect all of them except the Tennesse Titans, simply because of the way some of their players bahaved last year against against Pittsburgh. I lost a lot of respect for them after that incident and therefore that would make them the team I hate the most in the division. But yeah like I said as long as the Colts are on top, it doesn’t really faze me.

To clarify
I don’t “hate” any team, because imo “hate” is a strong word/feeling. Therefore I strongly dislike, the Titans the most in the division.

Honestly
I don’t hate any one team. The Titans have a few asshats on their roster (Keith Bulluck, LenDale White, Vince Young) who love t bark and yap even though they haven’t won a damn thing in the pros. Fisher is smug, I agree, and he doesn’t get nearly the same criticism for playoff failure Dungy did even though Fisher has routinely “choked” in the playoffs.
The Jaguars I can’t hate because I can’t take them seriously. Jack Del Rio is a boob, and as long as he coaches that team I’ll never fear or hate them. They act immature, but they take that from Del Rio. They have some good pieces though, and I like David Garrard.
The Texans I can’t “hate” because the Colts flat out own them. The Colts are 13-1 against them. However, of all the AFC South opponents, I respect the Texans the most. Despite their record against Indy, I’ve never seen them “quit” on a game. They play hard for four quarters. I can’t say that for Jacksonville and Tennessee. I’ve seen those teams quit (or loaf) against the Colts. Don’t think I’ve ever seen surrender in the Texans. That I respect.

You really think
JDR isn’t worth a damn, huh? What is it about him that you think is causing the Jags to lose?
I'm your huckleberry...
In my opinion
His attitude and coaching style. He is a “player’s coach”. Compare JDR to Dungy and what is the biggest difference between the two? Attitude and coaching style. Dungy was balanced and controlled his emotions as a coach, whilst JDR appears to be a “rah rah” emotionally charged coach (which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it obviously hasn’t worked out so far).

Well
I can cite specific games:
In 2005, on a critical third down, the Colts converted a big play. However, the call on the field was a little shaky. Del rio ripped a red flag out of his sock, tossed it on the field, and said something very nasty to the ref. The ref blew the whistle: 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty ON DEL RIO!. The Colts won the challenge and got an extra 15 yards. They scored a TD on that drive, and won both the game and the division that day.
Last season (2008), in the last game between the two teams, Del Rio decided to line-up 8 players in the box to stop the Colts in the second half. The held the Colts to only 32 yards rushing, since the secondary had no help, Manning torched them. In the third quarter, Manning didn’t incomplete a single pass. Colts win. Clinch playoff spot.
In the Week Thirteen game in 2007, Del Rio mishandled his timeouts towards the end of the game. Had Del Rio held onto one time out after the two minute warning, the Colts would have had to make three first downs to run out the clock rather than just two. Colts win. Pretty much clinch division right then and there.
I could go on and on with this, my friend. Bottom line is Del Rio is a horrible coach. the day he leaves your team is the day they take a solid step in the right direction.

I have always agreed with this
He has good traits, including his aggressive tendencies, but he always seems to be good for one awful decision or move per game that seems to cost the team. Some will say it’s those 4th down calls, but that’s not it. BBS gives a few good examples.
Attitude wise he seemed really wrong for that team last year once they lost the linemen and got off to a poor start. Their collapse was very easy to see coming (in fact I called it after week 1). A calmer coach may have still been able to guide a team with that talent to an 8-8ish record.
He will always have a bit of respect from me for having the balls to cut Leftwich, although the move to Garrard was still much later than it should’ve been.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen surrender in the Texans.
Football is a religion in Texas.

the team i dislike the most
is whatever team the Colts are playing that week =)
some teams do have some real douchebags playing for them. but i usually just cant stand those individual guys, rather than not liking the team itself…….on second thought…..i really dont like San Diego lately…..
Mostly agreed
I am strongly against the current opponent. When we lose to another team, regardless of division, I hold a grudge for a week or two and then I’m over it.
There is only one team I consistently dislike, which is the Patriots.
How can you not love a team that does this?
If I have to chose they would be:
1) Pats
2) Chargers
3) Titans
As far as the rest of the league….meh…

Nah.
It’s hard for me to hate on the Squeelers – they play with heart. Besides, I place the blame for the ’05 loss squarely on the shoulder of Vandershank ;-0

Sorry
It’s gotta be the Jaguars. I will always remember how big of a loud-mouthed ass Mike Peterson was as a Jag. There are also two Jaguars games that I’ve been to that have been heart-breaking losses, one at the RCA dome, and one at LOS. The first one was a couple years ago when Josh Scobee nailed like a 95 yard FG to end the game. The other was last year’s second home game…I won’t get into the officiating, but needless to say, it left a sour taste in my mouth regarding the Jaguars.
Also, though I can’t point to specific details, I have this predjudice against them stemming from a belief (rational or irrational…I don’t know) that they are the most bush league of regular Colts opponents. It seems like they are one of the worst perpetrators of the “lie down and pretend to be hurt” tactic teams constantly employ against the Colts to slow them down during no-huddle situations.
"You're hitting the wrong person. Don't you know you're hitting Ron Artest?"
huh.
Really? You think teams fake injury to slow down the Colts. I can see that…I guess, I never thought about it before. I think the rivalry will only thicken from here. It’s going to be an interesting year. Starting September 13th.
I'm your huckleberry...
My top 5
1. Patriots – They are the Patriots. No need to say anything else
2. Chargers – There are a bunch of guys there that I dont like. Lil prince Philip Rivers is one of em. He has this attitude as if he was the next Joe Montana or something. Shawn Merriman thinks him alone is the whole Chargers team, just as LT. Great players, wrong attitude I guess
3. Titans – Jeff Fisher is a smug, LenDale White is an ass that thinks that fighting for a name or title like Crash & Bash is worth his time.
4. Cowboys – I dont like Antonio Ramiro “call me Tony” Romo (not any racist comment or something, I just hate the kind of guy that denies his roots). Not committed to the game as a QB should be. Mr Jones is also annoying, and they still think they are going to the Super Bowl every year just because they are the Cowboys.
5. Lions – I dont hate em, its just that they have no reason to exist, and their place should be taken by a respectful franchise. Detroit is a great city to have that kind of team. I say give a team to Hawai or Kentucky…
"We’re only going to score 17 points? haha...OK" - Tom Brady
Poor Lions
I’m sure there are logical reasons not to feel sorry for the Lions, but I do. I’m impressed by anyone who can call themselves a Lions fan year after year. I’m rooting for them this year, except when they play us in preseason, and when they play against the Packers (Aaron Rodgers) or the 49ers (kinda intrigued by what Singletary is doing out here). Having a team go 0-16 while another goes 16-0 (the year prior) is not what parity is about…
How can you not love a team that does this?
Colts then Packers
My two favorites. I also would like to see the Lions get out of the basement.

it would be nice for the city indeed
I guess that having a new logo is kinda good for them. You know, like a new start. Not meaning that they are going to be a better team just for having a new logo but its good for them.
I wont root for em since i dont like them, but i hope they dont have another 0-16 year. I dont wish that for any other team, except if they are playing in New England :)

I don't really have a strong dislike...
for any of the other teams in the AFC South. I like that it’s competitive every season. That divisional games are typically tough games. There aren’t many divisions in the NFL that can say that. Usually there are maybe 2 contenders in each division and even that can be a joke. I think it makes winning the division sweeter.
But I agree with your assessment of Fisher, that guy is kind of smarmy. In general, he seems untrustworthy. But he has one sweet looking mustache.
The Titans
I cant stand anyone in the division, but the Titans really annoy me. Part of it is that they are known to give the Colts a hard time. The other is some of their douchebag players. But as Ive said, I just hate anyone not named the Colts in the AFC South. I hope every year, that the TItans, Texans, and Jaguars fail miserably.
I feel the same way
Except insert The Jags. The rest should crash and burn as a courtesy to the nation. The Titans I’m particularly passionate about because they get under my skin. Thanks for answering everyone!
I'm your huckleberry...
I'm going Jags here
Sorry viator, you seem like a good guy. But this is a mediorcre team with a mediocre coach in the most mediocre city in the State of Florida(when great cities like LA and San Antonio are without franchises) They also have extremely annoying players with overly flashy attitudes considering what little they’ve accomplished, paranoia complexes, and little respect for their opponents. The fan base is also quite possibly the most fickle and least loyal I’ve ever seen. If you can not, despite corporate sponsorship, sell out a MNF game against the most successful opponent in your division, then your franchise needs to get the hell out of dodge.
That said, I really could care less for the Titans, but I don’t pay them a whole lot of attention. And I actually really respect the Texans and hope they capture the #2 seed in the division and a Wildcard spot. Here’s to another year of 3 AFC South teams in the Playoffs! (With the Jags at home with foil hats on their heads)
I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation
No need to apologize
Although, your emphasis on mediocre comes across as somewhat naive. The generalization of the fan base not being loyal strengthens your representation of that characteristic. You are young yet, so that is not unusual. What do you know of Jacksonville outside of the media’s portrayal? Football aside, what facts do you have that would support your case? There are a lot of hard working, God fearing people here. From several generations of fisherman and dairy farmers to young and upcoming web designer like yourself. It’s one thing to judge a football team as an organization, or a fan base as to the quality of character they display at a game…But it’s quite another to speak on a community and a city as a whole. Especially from such an ignorant standpoint as yours. As I recall Mr Dungy stated that the crime in Indianapolis is one of the issues that concerns him. Jacksonville is suffering from a similar issue with crime. So are we, as cities, really so different? We may be wearing foil hats, but it sounds to me like you should be wearing a bib to catch the drool.
I'm your huckleberry...
First of all
I said nothing about the people of Jacksonville. So please refrain from attacking me. My impression of Jacksonville can come from a few visits to the city, impressions of several people whom I value there opinion, and general image of the city as a whole. Yes, there is a few nice neighborhoods, and some nice people there. But the impression that I got there as a whole very poor, especially compared to Tampa, Miami, or Orlando. You may have the same opinion of Indianapolis, but I think most people would agree that Indianapolis’ downtown is safe, convenient, and loaded with entertainment options for visitors. Downtown Jacksonville is rather bland(though some of the architecture in the skyline is very interesting – especially the Mobis(?) building), and so spread out it is not even fun to traverse outside of the Landing.
I am an Air Force veteran, and have been to cities all over the nation and the world. Jacksonville, in my opinion, is the most mediocre experience to travel to in the state of Florida amongst the major cities(which is scary as the city of Jacksonville itself is larger than any of the other municipalities). Also, the location for Alltel(oh wait, they couldn’t justify wasting their money on that sponsorship anymore), I mean Municipal Stadium was a serious mistake. To be so seperated from the most engaging parts of town, especially the best entertainment options? Yikes. And though I have never been to a game there, I’ve heard that it is a sadly decaying structure that is made more depressing by having several installed sections of seating covered by tarps due to poor ticket sales. Check out this article by 18to88 on their experience to see what I mean.
I’m not trying to dog on the proud people of Jacksonville who seem to be honest and hard-working, and seem to love college ball and many other sports. But for an NFL city, it is definitely beyond mediocre. Super Bowl XXXIX was pretty pathetic and is not more memorable for being such because next year’s Super Bowl was in Detroit. I hope the best for the City and its people, but I see no way that team is still playing in Municipal Stadium in 5 years. Or winning a division title with JDR at the helm.
BTW, the tin foil hat comment was directed at the team not you or any Jags fan….

About Jax
Good day i am here to respond to a few mis conceptions about Jax. First off I agree with you that downtown is bland i will give you one main reason First Baptist Church owns most of the Land down there and control o lot of the zoning in that area. if you want to find the cool spots you will need to check out St Johns Town center, Riverside/five points, Avondale, or Neptune/Atlantic Beach. As for why the city has a team is because it is one of the fastest growing cities in the country (ranked 3rd) and in about 10 years will have a metro area pop of 2.2 mil +. Jacksonville is very vast taking about an hour to get from one end to the other. It is turning into a good city full of good people and life.
As for the Jags. Gene is someone who is showing that knows what he is doing with the team and as for JDR i am confident that if Gene sees that he is not doing what he is paid to do he will be shown the door

Not to nitpick
Like I said, I’m sure Jax is a great city for those that live there. it seems to have a great business culture, and several nice neighborhoods. Being near the ocean is always awesome as well. But it’s 16% population growth in the past eight years(the Greater Jacksonville MSA) would take it closer to 35 years to reach 2.2 Million. And it was not even in the top 50 MSAs in pop growth(I counted over 10 with 200000 population).
I would love to have a great guide take me around and show the great parts of the city and get a better impression. I would also love to see Jag home games sell out for a whole season, and their players to shut their mouths and play football week in and week out. I hope the best for the city, but the worst for the team.
And I mean that in the nicest way possible.
I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation
The best part
Of Jax is outside of the city. The surrounding counties and waterways hold the beauty. If you’re chasing a nightlife, try Tampa.

Interloping
Obviously, this was a mistake. Never pose a question that may result in an answer that you don’t want to hear. The point was to gauge the level of rivalry within our division. Such disdain on a competitive level is to be expected. The surprise is the lack of class. I think the Colts have just usurped the Titans for me. Good day, Indianapolis.
I'm your huckleberry...
Huh?
You found the responses so offensive? Were you looking to be offended? I think there was a general agreement with you by most commenters that the Titans were their more hated rival. And they were as down on the Jags as you were on the Colts, just as rivals in the division. Truthfully, this was one of the more civil exchanges I have seen with Jags fans. From BOTH sides. And I think you have seemed like a pretty good guy.
I guess I didn’t see this as such a mistake or disaster. Unless you reference Bullard’s view of the city itself, I didn’t even think it was that negative, especially considering the question – our most hated rival. That would seem like a setup for hard feelings. Seriously, you should archive the events on the Jags site from last season, when our guys went over for some pregame friendly Q&A, only to have the Jags people turn it into a Manning hate fest. The insults were ridiculous. Trust me, this was no where close to a disaster, my friend.

I would like to apologize
I never meant to offend anyone with a quick off the cuff comment. But I have a certain opinion about the City(which indeed may not be warranted, as I have not lived in the city or spent extended periods there), which I also hold about several other US and Global cities which are not home to divisional or even league rivals. I am just under the opinion that the Jacksonville faithful need to have a serious turnaround in regards their fandom if they want to warrant the continued existence of a pro football franchise. You could have said the same thing about Indy and the Colts pre 1995(or more accurately 2001). I know sometimes it takes awhile, but something has to give. There is way to much money out there waiting for a franchise opportunity to come around for the nation’s second largest media market.
If you come to Indianapolis(which I welcome you to, I’d even show you around), and feel the same way, I’d understand. I definitely would not throw out “lack of class” because someone thinks my city is mediocre. It may certainly be in many ways, but it is pretty much the only game in Indiana and has a lot of pride in their pro sports teams. I am truly sorry for offending you, and thank you for crossing into enemy territory to start discussion and hope you do so again.

Orchestrated the about face in Indy. We need a franchise QB. We need stars who are humble verbally, but sick with talent. We have fans, I mean JJF and I are not the only ones. Defending One's Home State
I grew up half my life in Indiana, the other half in Michigan (if we don’t count birth in Tennessee or first three years in California). Anyhow, most of my family is settled in Michigan, while I live in NW Indiana. Now, NW Indiana is the ugliest part of the state, hands down. It is actually considered Chicagoland, which is unfortunate in more ways than I care to discuss. My Michigan relatives love to bash Indiana based on this area, to which I quickly compare all of Michigan to Detroit and tick them all off. Double standard.
I love this state. My wife, children and I drive the two hours south to the Indy area all we can. We camp there every year. We met Tony Dungy down there twice. We eat at the Old Spaghetti Factory every time we are in town, as we make our required trip to the sacred Lucas Oil Stadium for a moment (or so) of awe and silence. We have our favorite little places all over that part of the state.
All this to say, I get as defensive as anyone when our state is put down and disdained. Chicago area people are notorious for doing this, which makes it unfortunately hard for me to like the Bears much. Sadly, that (Chicago) is the news and sports we are force fed in this part of the state. But I love Indiana. One of my favorite movies is Hoosiers, a sentimental favorite to me as a small town basketball player and star (many moons ago).
Oh, and Indiana University’s men’s accapella hit group, Straight No Chaser, summed up my sentimental feelings for my state in this Christmas song.
I wonder...
I do really feel bad for the way my comment was taken, but I wonder how a man like viator would feel about DZ and DS at 18to88 calling the Jags “J-holes” and Jax “The Hole”. Truly know that it is the team’s characters, not the city itself, which drives my dislike of the team. Even though, I was really disappointed with Land Shark when it came so highly recommended, I’ll stick to Shiner Bock and the Brugge for now…LOL.
