End of NFL = new draft?
Each year we have a new class of rookies entering the NFL through the draft and through free agency, and some picks are busts and some are not. Usually within a few years we know whether they are a real contributor to their team or not. So I got an interesting idea. What if the NFL could not come up with a new collective bargaining agreement and the NFL was ended? What if every current NFL player got put into a pool and there was a new draft. Who would be the first 25 players drafted?
I'm just really interested to hear people's opinions about this. I think there are several obvious choices, but then there are some choices that might be a little controversial. Here is my list of the top 25 players drafted in no specific order
Quarterbacks - Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers
Runningbacks - Adrian Peterson, LaDanian Tomlinson, Michael Turner, DeAngelo Williams
Wide Receivers - Larry Fitgerald, Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Steve Smith, Calvin Johnson
Offensive Linemen - Joe Thomas, Walter Jones, Michael Roos, Jason Peters, Ryan Clady, Jordan Gross
Defensive Ends - Dwight Freeney, DeMarcus Ware, Mario Williams
Linebackers - Patrick Willis, Ray Lewis
Defensive Backs - Ed Reed
Man, that was tougher than I thought. I REALLY wanted to put Bob Sanders on this list, and I think he would probably be #26, but I'm afraid his history of injuries would be enough to make him slide to #26.
I'm really intrigued to hear others' opinions on this. You're the GM for the draft of a lifetime. Good luck!

ahhh I love Madden
Who hasn’t done this at least once on Madden in franchise mode? It starts to suck pretty quickly because teams don’t have their identity, but the draft is definitely fun and a good challenge.
As for comments on your selections, I think the one thing you might have overlooked is age. As good as LDT is, he’s just not worth a first round pick in this draft because even if he comes back this year, he can’t have more than a couple years left. Same with Ed Reed and Ray Lewis. All those guys could potentially be great on your team for a couple years but your team will be fucked somewhat soon. I think your first round pick would have to be on a guy who can be your start player for at least 5 years and hopefully closer to a full decade (had to word that in a way that makes Manning still a top 5 pick).
Otherwise though I like most of the pics and would only quibble on a few.
"If you don't [draft me], I promise you I'll come back and kick your ass for the next 15 years."
very true
The age factor is definitely something to take into consideration, but if they are still at the top of their game and can contribute immediately and at least for two or more years, I think I’d pull the trigger
Former New Orleans Saints RB George Rogers
"I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first"
Maybe it's the homer in me...
But I think Jeff Saturday deserves consideration. He’s getting up there in age, but if you were starting a franchise, a center with the kind of experience he has would be really valuable. I think if LT and Ray Lewis get the nod, so does Saturday. Others I would consider: Shawne Merriman (I know, he’s a roider, but the natural talent is huge), Alan Faneca, Asante Samuel, Albert Haynesworth, Robert Mathis and Antoine Bethea (two more homer choices), The Williamses from Minnesota, Ngata, Bart Scott and Barrett Rudd. I’m sure there are plenty others. Who would be the first coach chosen? Tomlin? Fisher? Would you bring Dungy back from retirement?
"You're hitting the wrong person. Don't you know you're hitting Ron Artest?"
It's the homer in you
No team in the NFL is going to draft a C, let alone an ancient one, given the choice of any player in the NFL.
LT and Ray Lewis wouldn’t realistically be taken in the first round either.
Although to be fair, that’s only because neither of them are fast enough to interest Al Davis.
