Rebuilding Phase?

With all the changes that have happened during this offseason I have been told that Indy is in a "rebuilding phase". Do you guys think that this is true and perhaps Indy is looking at a tought '09 or is it just complete junk that people are making up to bash Indy? In which case the next time I hear it I could give them a punch buggy in the arm, but anyways; while I have this post going, does anyone think that Curtis Painter could be starting any of the games next season perhaps starting to kick Peyton out of the picture? Because again I have been told, and I'm starting to think I need to stop talking football with Cowboys, Patriots, etc. fans, that Indy is trying to kick out "Old Man Manning". And that's direct quote from my brother.

So bottom line is there really any chance that perhaps Indy could make it to XLIV?

Your brother is an idiot

The only way Painter starts a game next season is if Sorgi falls off some scaffolding and Peyton gets a boom mike dropped on him the week after and breaks an arm.

As long as we’ve got Peyton at QB, we’re not rebuilding. Every year is a matter of getting the right pieces around him to make us contenders. Whether we have that this season or not will be revealed in due time, but there’s no question our aim is the same as it always is – the Vince Lombardi trophy.

A semi-serious response

To me, rebuilding is characterized by major changes in the coaching staff and the team roster… and likely aimed at implementing a new system. We have had a couple of key changes in coaching, but those changes have been to upgrade (I’ll even concede that Moore and Mudd won’t be major changes, even though I still maintain that they need to clarify what it means to have “largely” the same roles as before). But we have not had the roster changes that really characterize rebuilding, i.e., mass dumping of veteran players (see: Tampa Bay). Yes we let Harrison loose, and Ratliff go, but if we were really rebuilding I think you would have seen us let players like Saturday and Sanders walk.

I don’t think we’re rebuilding… I think we’re fine tuning.

How can you not love a team that does this?

Your brother is very narrow minded

like most fans that hate the Colts or very general fans. There is no rebuilding going on in indy. The Colts are simply doing what all elite teams do which is reloading. During this years draft they addressed their greatest weakness (DT), replaced Rhodes with an even better talent to run the 2 back system, a new slot, nickle back, and quarterback for depth, and punter. Non of these, sans RB and DT, are key positions. The reason reason the Colts took a QB is because they dont trust Sorgi and if the same Manning situation happens again, then maybe Painter will do better than the throwboy and Gray.

You say you talk to Pats fans about football right? They are the ones telling you the Colts are rebuilding and want to kick Manning to the curb? Then tell them the Pats are going to do the same for Brady. I mean they used a thrid round pick on a QB, much higher than our sixth we used on Painter. Guess they are “rebuilding” too

Old man Manning?

I would, as most any sane football fan would, take “old man Manning” over any QB in the league. He has many years left in his tank and is showing no signs of slowing down. A franchise doesn’t kick an MVP to the curb. I am a die hard Boilermaker fan. Painter will not be ready for the NFL for several years. I believe we took him so he could get time with a great QB and one day MAYBE be the man. I watched Painter for his entire college career, and believe me, he will need several years before becoming a good QB by NFL standards. And by the way, mama says that Pats fans are the devil! lol

are the people telling you that Purdue fans?

because the only way that makes any sense is if they are deluding themselves into thinking Painter will get a shot anytime soon.

LOL!! Ridicules.

This is funny. You need to stop talking to these people, especially your brother. Is he smoking crack or something? (joke) Seriously, if Peyton is old, then I’m Santa Claus…and I’m not Santa, btw.

Cowboys fans? Ha! They are just deflecting from the mess that is their team right now. Pats fans…well, trash talk is pretty much to be expected from them.

As LovinBlue pointed out above…no rebuilding but fine tuning. We’re alright, bud.

Kicking out Peyton?

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve read in a long time. It shouldn’t ev en get printed here. Also, the Colts are not re-building. They’re tweaking the defense. Curtis Painter probably won’t make the team, the Colts never carry 3 QBS. And YES, there will be another SuperBowl for the Colts. It’s absolutely a realistic expectation. Because Peyton Manning NEVER GIVES UP. The Best is yet to come.

painter.....

i have to agree that is the dumbest thing ever to say the colts want to kick manning out…but i have to disagree with you on painter making the team….because i think painter maybe be our future transition qb….someone to take over when manning does decide to hang them up but only long enough for us to draft and make ready the next Peyton……..

I wish ya'll would kick out Manning

but you wouldnt be stupid enough to do that =)

Your Brother is MESSING with you!

Nobody can seriously think that the colts are out to replace Manning. Even hard core Pats fans think that’s ridiculous. The Colts have a REAL shot at the Super-Bowl this year and for the next few years to come. The rest of the AFC better watch their backs.

by Believe in Blue on Jun 18, 2009 4:10 PM EDT reply actions

All nonsense

The Colts only lost 1 significant player, and he was lost a year and a half ago to injury so it was a mere formality that he is no longer on the team now.

Coaches come and go…the coaching staff will be fine no matter how it shakes out. I actually think ALL of the coaching changes will enhance the team.

But if having another successful draft is considered rebuilding, then yes we are.

Complete BS

The Colts are already like the 2nd or 3rd youngest team in the league, I think only the Packers are actually ahead of us on that. We have like maybe half a dozen players that are even over the age of 30. Of those, I believe only Manning and Saturday are marquee players….

The only significant offseason loss was Hunter Smith, not Marvin Harrison. I love MH and hope he’ll re-sign, but honestly, we won’t be hurting without him. We were still in the top 10 offensively when we lost Marvin back in 07, and we did fine without him except our defense fell apart..

by DevilsReject on Jun 19, 2009 7:59 PM EDT reply actions

Hunter

I don’t feel that Hunter was significant. He was an average punter. The biggest loss from him will be that he was, for the most part, a good holder for field goals. Of course he botched that one in the Super Bowl but I’m just nitpicking.

Hunter

Special teams can win games as shown by the Chargers against us in the playoffs. Truth of the matter is, Hunter was a very average punter for the Colts. We got abused in the playoff game and it ended up costing us the game. People always give him way more credit than he deserved and he is being way overpaid now. He is a great holder and a nice athlete as a punter, however, he kicks it no better than average.
