Getting to Know One Another

One of the series that KingRichard had proposed before his untimely move to his own blog was one in which he would interview different participants in Stampede Blue so we could get to know one another a little better.  In the interest of perpetuating that concept, I thought I'd do a simple poll to learn about your interests in areas other than the Colts.

This poll doesn't stray very far, and in fact only crosses conference boundaries.  Simply put, what NFC team do you root for, if any?

Me?  I'm a Green Bay fan for the simple reason that I really did like Brett Favre (mostly past tense now), and of course one of the greatest QBs to play at Cal is now at the helm there.  But I also like the Giants for their most recent SB win, the Eagles because of DeSean Jackson, the 49ers for what Singletary is doing, and the Bucs because I once went to a game in the Sombrero.

the greatest show on turf was my first NFL love

I almost added the Rams, too

I grew up in LA with the LA Rams… Vince Ferragamo, Jack Youngblood, Eric Dickerson and the endless teasing on KFWB (News 98!) about Georgia Frontiere.

How can you not love a team that does this?

I nearly put the Giants though

Eli and their SB awesomeness.

Giants, baby!

Gotta love the team with Peyton’s li’l bro that totally wrecked the Pats’ 19-0 season!

Rooting for another team?

I did root for Eli in 2007. But…now that he’s caught up with Peyton on Super Bowl rings I just can’t do that anymore. I never want to see him with more rings than his big brother.

Giants.

Both because of Eli and because of what they did to the Patriots in ’07. Just look at my profile pic.

Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Cardinals.

…the best explanation I have is that I played them in franchise mode on Madden 07 for quite a while, hahaha.

Plus, when teams are down for too long, I just have to root for them to start winning.

Off the subject but...

Can anyone tell me how to post a picture on Fanshots? I went there and couldn’t figure out how to do it. HELP!

is it uploaded to any other sites yet?

I don’t know if you have to have writer powers to upload images or not.

If it’s not I’d just upload it to a free hosting site (I use photobucket for screenshots I want to post in comments).

Uploads..

Thanks for the info. I thought I could post pictures like we do on FaceBook where the host lets you browse through your pictures and you just click to add a pic. I didn’t know how it worked here.

Saints

I typically like teams that are viewed as underdogs. The Colts went through a long span of not winning, and now its good to see them on top.

The Saints are coming into their own now as well. I don’t know what I’d do if the Saints and the Colts played each other in the Super Bowl. Wait….yes I do. Whoop their ass Colts! I bleed blue and white.

I voted for the 'Aints as well

Mostly because I grew up there and so I had to root for them, but also because when I moved to Indy the next season Jim Mora came to Indy, and also because Drew Brees is the QB for them now. Go Boilers!

another Saints vote

I lived there the first 5 years of my life.

Saints

for me as well. My grandparents lived in Westwego and had season tickets. I’ve went to quite a few Saints games in the 80s and 90s. Awesome seats, right behind the visitor’s bench… I got to see a lot of good teams beat up on N.O even though I was rooting for them.

I voted Bucs

Partly because Harrison might end up there, and more specifically because my girlfriend roots for them. You can call me whipped, but I was able to get her to root for the Wizards, which I think is the bigger accomplishment.

heres my nfc top 5

1. NY Giants – They have a Manning as a QB…and defeated the Pats in SB XLII
2. Cardinals – They have Fitz and had Edge
3. Rams – Love the uniform, the colors and for the Greatest Show on Turf, Marshal Faulk and because they picked Laurinaitis
4. Saints – The father of the SB XLI and XLII MVP’s played in there. God knows what wouldve happened if he hadnt been into football
5. SF 49ers – I like Singletary and i see sme nice things for them in the future

Bucs

If you’re looking for a team that mirrors the Colts in terms of coaching, management, and ownership, this is it. I love that way the Raheem Morris presents himself, at least from what I’ve seen in his interviews. Mike Tomlin has sculpted the model for how young coaches should handle the business, and Morris is doing a great job of following it. On the actual football field, their defense is always exciting to watch for me. A fast, physical, intimidating, and hard-hitting D has been a constant for them for years. They may play a little different this year considering all of the coaching and schematical changes, but I doubt they still won’t be a thrill to watch.

Packers

I liked them because of Favre. Now I like them because I don’t like Favre. How’s that?

When I saw Aaron Rodgers slide embarassingly far in the draft and sit in the red carpet room for hours until pick 24, I felt bad for him and started pulling for him. Then when the Favre debacle happened and many Favre fans were giving their QB Rodgers a bunch of crap, I pulled for him even more. He has been through some stuff for a young NFL QB, and he played very well through his first full season last year.

So I used to like the Packers because of Favre, now I like them because of Rodgers.

Da Bears

I grew up a mixed fan of Bears and Colts. Bears are easily my second favorite team.

I root for the winning team.......

if the losing team recently beat the Colts, or it has some implications that would benefit Indy.

Hard to pick just one.

I’m a purdue fan so I have to say New Orleans & the Brees. Giants with Peytons’ lil’ bro. And of course you have da bears. But I really like the choice “anyone that beats the Jags, Titans or Texans”.

Giants

Good team with solid foundation from ownership to GM to coaches to players. Their handling of Plaxico Burress might have cost them another ring, but it was the right thing to do. Winning is not everything.

Saints

Mostly for homer reasons. I like to support former Boilers in the NFL. Unless they go to the Patriots or (lately) the Chargers, then they are dead to me. I also follow the Broncos and the Jets for the same reason.

I’ve been enjoying this tremendously… thanks everyone for playing along! The different perspectives are really interesting.

ATL for me

I love Matt Ryan, he is a local kid, playing his college ball at BC, and inlike the pro team here, Matty Ice has class

I just don't watch the minor league games that much...

…except for fantasy purposes.

However, the Giants are probably the real deal. As are the Panthers. But I don’t root for either. I like to watch Drew Brees and (when he’s healthy) Reggie Bush play, but that doesn’t make me a Saints fan. Same goes for AP and the Vikes.

I will tell you that over the past few seasons I’ve steadily developed a bit of an enthusiasm for any AFC East team that looks like it could steal wins from the Pats. Same with the AFC West and the Chargers. It seemed fun to root for Denver last year until they choked away their playoff berth in epic fashion. Though it may be taboo on this blog, I kind of like the Houston Texans a little…

That's not taboo at all.

The Texans are a classy organization with (as far as I know) classy fans. I would be thrilled if they finish 10-6 and finally get to the playoffs, and I’m pretty sure many other fans on this blog feel the same way.

Man, I need a life...

Random facts of the week from the empty void that is my mind: I'm going to be going to Missouri (where there is no Internet or computers) for 2 weeks starting Monday, so I've got 3 of these for you.

1. You may have noticed before, but I love Scrubs. A lot. No seriously, I'm addicted to it, and here's why with this thrown in.

2. When you put thermite and blocks of ice together, you get a big boom. Nobody really knows why.

3. The Colts' (Indy and Baltimore's) all-time franchise record is 438-428-8. So, the Colts' just recently (2007 season) broke .500. That really tells you how bad the Colts were before Peyton.

by Cassieper on Jun 7, 2009 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep.

I like the Texans and generally root for them all but twice a year. I root especially hard for them when they play the Titans or Bedazzlers.

Saints

If I were to pick an NFC team it would be the Saints, I used to like watching Aaron Brooks, Joe Horn and Duece even though they never really got it together.
