Man, I need a life...

Random facts of the week from the empty void that is my mind: I'm going to be going to Missouri (where there is no Internet or computers) for 2 weeks starting Monday, so I've got 3 of these for you.

1. You may have noticed before, but I love Scrubs. A lot. No seriously, I'm addicted to it, and here's why with this thrown in.

2. When you put thermite and blocks of ice together, you get a big boom. Nobody really knows why.

3. The Colts' (Indy and Baltimore's) all-time franchise record is 438-428-8. So, the Colts' just recently (2007 season) broke .500. That really tells you how bad the Colts were before Peyton.

he was kinda disowned by a lot of Cubs fans

The whole team hated him (when he walked out early during the last game of his last season in Chicago one of the other players took a bat to his boombox, which he had insisted on blasting salsa music on forever).

He forgot how to speak English when he went in front of congress to talk about PEDs.

He dragged himself through a couple of pathetic seasons after leaving the team.

For anyone who cares

I’m doing a running score card for all the stories from Friday through Sunday about the Colts. I’m trying to determine what the best source of news for Colts fans is. I’m tracking every story I can find to see who does the best job among colts.com, Kuharsky, Oehser, and the Star. The final tally will be up Monday.

Colts.com

4th. I’m calling it.

"I saw a commercial on late night TV, it said,'Forget everything you know about slipcovers.' So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were."

The count may be a little biased toward Kuharsky though.

He’s going extra on the Colts’ stories because of the Colts’ minicamp going on.

WOO US SOCCER

Carlos Bocanegra put his head on the line literally and gave the US a win. Now its Real Salt Lake-Colorado Rapids on FSC. If I could rank my favorite sports it would be

1a. Football (Notre Dame, Colts)
1b. Soccer (USA, Seattle Sounders)
3. Basketball (Pacers, Butler)
4. Baseball (Reds)
5. Rugby (Leinster)
I like hockey, IRL, golf and tennis but not enough to have a favorite team/player/driver. I hate NASCAR with a passion.

Season ticket holder

Starting next season. Only $500 for two tickets, and we season ticket holders have a great chance for getting Final 4 tickets, which would probably sell for more than $500, so it’s a good deal. I went to almost every home game last year, so I decided just to get season tix.

Anyone been following the startup of the UFL?

I’m mildly curious because there will be a team in San Francisco (playing at AT&T Park, which is a beautiful venue, but not great to watch a football game… speaking from experience at last year’s Emerald Bowl).

Other teams in Vega$, Orlando and I think New York.

How can you not love a team that does this?

It will probably fold,

like NFL Europa and everything else. The NFL has too much of a stranglehold on football entertainment.

I've been following it for the most part

I think it could make it, but the San Fran team was a weird pick. I’m also surprised that they are in Orlando since it is played on a Friday night. I would have thought NYC, Vegas and other places where HS football is nothing. I see it being successful.

I thought SF was a weird pick, too

I would have thought LA before SF, but then again “there’s no there… there” in LA. It would be hard to find high concentrations of football-deprived fans in LA.

How can you not love a team that does this?

by LovinBlue on Jun 6, 2009 10:48 PM EDT up reply actions

From what I can tell

This year they are going with 4 teams but will expand to 8 the next year. The commish says LA will get an expansion team for 2010, and the Vegas team is playing a game there this upcoming season. The NYC team is playing in Hartford, CT this year, so I will expect Hartford to get a team. I also noticed that the teams will tie themselves unofficially with a division in the NFL and get first dibs on their players, so with those 6 conditional teams who would it be with?

East-Hartford
East-NYC
North-San Fran (?)
North-?
South-Orlando
South-?
West-Las Vegas
West-Los Angeles

So that might be a hint to where the next teams will go. I think the teams should be playing in smaller stadiums though. Maybe MLS or college stadiums like what Las Vegas is doing.

It was a great one this morning

You had to name 5 starters from a Super Bowl team, either from ’92 or ’97.

My wife wondered why I said ’92 was way easier, then I rattled off all of them from the Bills (including Colts quasi-OL coach Pete Metzelaars) in about 10 seconds.

Tecmo Super Bowl still is branded into my head.

That was #2 of 4 in a row

I was confused at first, as I thought it would be the Redskins (which I could also name sans TE in about 15 seconds), but then they threw out the Bills, who I played with in Tecmo Super Bowl, so it was cake.

’97 was the Patriots. That was tough.

And you really should get an NES emulator and play Tecmo Super Bowl. It’s in my top 5 of video games of all time, made in 1992.

There were 2 games on the NES

Tecmo Bowl, and Tecmo Super Bowl. The original only had a handful of teams, and you could only choose from 4 plays. INTs were also very easy.

Tecmo Super Bowl was the first game to incorporate all NFL teams, and only a handful of QBs didn’t let them use their names (like QB Bills, QB Eagles, QB Browns). You could choose from 8 plays, and you could set what those plays were. Lawrence Taylor and Bo Jackson were far and away the best players, with Jeff Jaeger coming in a close 3rd. It was the basis for every game after it, and better gaming system could never do it justice. The original NES game is still the best.
