Colts WR/TE unit, 15th in the NFL

Check out what Adrian Hasenmayer from Fox Sports.com says about the NFL's WR/TE's units

Star-divide

Here's the link: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9787230/Positional-Power-Rankings:-WR/TE-packages

Quick ranks:

  1. Cardinals
  2. Patriots
  3. Bills
  4. Saints
  5. Chargers
  6. Texans
  7. Broncos
  8. Packers
  9. Falcons
  10. Eagles
  11. Bengals
  12. Steelers
  13. Bucs
  14. Cowboys
  15. Colts

Can you believe it? I can't! I'd take Reggie-Gonzo-Clark-Garcon-Collie over many of those units! I obviously agree with the top 4, let's say the top 5, but come on!

  • The Texans unit is arguably as talented as ours! Andre Johnson has a little edge over Reggie (3 inches), but Clark's got an edge over Owen Daniels, and the rest is pretty even.
  • The Broncos' is talented but with Brandon Marshall they have disciplinary issues...
  • The Packers' is in fact very good, but not 7 spots above ours!
  • The Falcons is similar as ours...Roddy White<Reggie Tony Gonzalez(old)>Dallas Clark...
  • The Eagles! They've got talent, but that Cellek guy is NOT a top TE and the WRs are babies! They need experience!
  • The Bengals! Would you take Ocho Cinco over Reggie? I wouldn't, not even over Gonzo! Coles is a good WR, but Chris Henry did nothing last year and the TEs? Ben Utecht? He's not close to Dallas Clark.
  • The Steelers have a solid unit, they should be ranked higher too... They just need a 3rd WR to step up, and that could be Shaun McDonald
  • The Bucs'! That one is ridiculous! One year wonder Antonio Bryant and oft-injured Kellen Winslow...that's it! Michael Clayton? Dexter Jackson? Would you take this guys over ours?
  • The Cowboys...Roy Williams could be good, and of course Jason Witten is elite, but our unit is way better!

No.15, in my opinion, is not bad, it's RIDICULOUS! And most of this guy's analysis are based on how good the QB is or the O-line, and that shouldn't be a factor when you're ranking WR/TEs, don't you think?

Here's what he said about the Colts:

Where were you in 1995? Rockin' the grunge flannel, or in your Swingers heyday? That was also the last year the Colts put out a depth chart without Marvin Harrison. So what to make of Indy's receiving corps sans the future HOFer? Still solid, especially with Harrison's long-time dance partner Reggie Wayne in his athletic prime, coming off five straight 1,000-yard seasons and three Pro Bowls. Maybe Anthony Gonzalez can be Wayne's sidekick, but he doesn't have to be with tight end Dallas Clark already Peyton Manning's right-hand man. I'm not big on Indy's depth this year, but they have talent to develop eventually.

We HAVE DEPTH! Not many experience, but we do have a lot of depth...I really think we are a Top 10 unit at those positions...

What's your opinion?

How can you not love a team that does this?

yeah I did

Another person we doesn't understand that the Colts lost Marvin Harrison

5 games into 2007

That's big talk for a little guy,
but I'm walkin' without reply.

I think his rankings stink.

No way are the Colts #15. I’d put them in the top 5 at least. After the coming season, when everyone sees the Colts winning lots of games they’ll be proven wrong.

Bullshit

I’d put them between 4 and 7.

"I saw a commercial on late night TV, it said,'Forget everything you know about slipcovers.' So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were."

I guess the Colts are the NFL's version of Rodney Dangerfield: they get no respect

If Gonzo continues to improve and develop into a reliable #2 option, and if Garcon is even half as good as Gonzo was last season; then the WR corps is definitely in the top echelon in the NFL. Throw in Dallas Clark, who better go to the Pro Bowl if keeps playing the way he is, and competent play from Gijon Robinson and/or Santi; and you have yourself and top 5 WR/TE unit, my friends.

It simply does no good

to pay attention to these pre-season rankings/polls. It’s like Channing Crowder said of Rex Ryan and the Jets… "I’ve never played a football game in June in my whole life. So congratulations to him. He’s the OTA Super Bowl winner.’’

I loved that exchange mostly because of Ryan’s great display of humor. But Crowder has a point… it’s all about playing it out on the field.

I'm gonna love it!

When these pundits see Gonzo rock the world. Can’t wait.

"It's the greatest job in the world until Peyton comes off the field and you think his thumb might be broken and there's three minutes left in the AFC Championship Game and you're down by three to New England and you haven't taken a snap all year. Yeah, it's a great job until that point." - Jim Sorgi

Who Cares!

We have PEYTON MANNING….. They DONT. End of argument. If someone thinks the bucs WR/TE are going to out perform the Colts WR/TE, they r not experts… They are a Retard (Hangover movie- funniest thing ever!)

let them have their moment

after reggie goes 90-1300-10 and gonzo goes 75-1100-7 and Clark destroys linebackers with 70-1000-9 we’ll see where the colts rank. The only teams I would put above us are the Cardinals (they don’t need a TE with the amazing receiving group), Texans, MAYBE the cowboys, and possibly the Patriots.

Jason Witten and Roy williams. And the reason I said Maybe is because ESPN, NFL network, Fox Sports, and just about everyone else seem to hate the colts. Except for colts fans.

Who do the Texans have besides Andre J?

The Bills at #3 just kills me—TO may or may not work out but he ain’t yojng and has a history of the dropsies. And Lee Evans is fast.

So?

Agreed that this ranking is idiotic, but you know what? I love it! I hate it when they are the front-runners. Let everyone assume they have hit the wall, that without 88 the sky has fallen, that Addai is a bust, etc. talk talk talk. On the field is what matters, not paper rankings in July.

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

You are correct sir!

Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Man, I need a life...

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: Joseph Addai, otherwise one as The Great Irrationally Hated One, is the first and only running back to rush for 1,000 yards in a season without starting a game in that season.

Woww

So how is Moss/Welker/Watson better than Wayne/Gonzo/Clark?

it’s not, and the only team that has a better receiving corps is Arizona because Boldin/Fitz is absolutely ridiculous and awesome…But just like Bobman said, I love it when the only pre-season talk about our Colts is how the window is closing and the talent just isn’t there like it was in past seasons blah blah, when in fact since the ’06 superbowl seasoson the Colts have cotten better and better every year….but hey 2006 was probably the least talented team in terms of individual players but they were able to win the whole thing

by Hitstick Killer on Jul 12, 2009 1:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Eh

They have a 1000 yard receiver as the WR#3. We…don’t.

by eltharion_doa on Jul 14, 2009 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lets just agree

that ESPN can blow me and then jump off of a cliff. These guys know NOTHING. They predicted the Jaguars to WIN the AFC south this year. They thought the Cowboys and Patriots would be the superbowl teams. Neither of them made the playoffs.

by Colts_and_Cavs_in_09! on Jul 15, 2009 3:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This wasn't ESPN

While I agree with you on ESPN, the blame for this goes to Fox Sports.
