My Top Five 2008 Colts Moments

Training Camp is just around the corner and my Blue Jays have tanked in the brutal AL East, so what better way to forget about baseball and get reacquainted with the Colts than to relieve and rank my top five moments from the 2008 season.

#5 Manning to Rhodes Week 10: After scraping out a win at home against the Brady-less Pats, The Colts had a tougher test in Pittsburgh in Week 10. The play that sealed this win is my number five moment of 2008. A crisp fake to Rhodes to the right, Rhodes dummy's his route just enough before leaking up field past a helpless Troy Polumalu as 18 lofts the perfect touch pass for the winning score.

#4 Two Minute Drill @ San Diego Week 12: This game was all about revenge for the two losses to San Diego in 2007. The Chargers had just tied the game at 20 but had left 1:35 on the clock. Was there any doubt what would happen in the last 95 seconds?

#3 Rosenchopper Week 5: The Colts were going to start the 2008 season 1-3 if Sage Rosenfels hadn't started at quarterback for Houston in Week 5. The horseshoe was working it's magic in the final minutes of this classic.

#2 Gonzo lateral to Wayne Week 2: Coming off a disappointing home loss to the Bears in Week 1, the shaky Indy was up against the most talented running back in the world in week 2. The Vikings were absolutely dominating the Colts except in their inability to score touchdowns. Give the Colts offense that many chances and they'll eventually make you pay. Here Gonzalez hauls in the bomb from Peyton, makes a gorgeous cutback, sees Reggie trailing as he's being tackled and laterals it to him. Reggie gets tackled just outside the goal line and Indy is right back in the game.

#1 Peyton seals a playoff berth and MVP #3 Week 16: Peyton Manning put this team on his back in Week 16 and led them to an unprecedented 7th consecutive playoff berth. With a national television audience watching, Peyton put up a 29-34, 364 yard, 3 TD masterpiece to remove any doubt on who the NFL's Most Valuable Player was in 2008.

wow

excellent post. Good idea for a post and great execution. I’m not even going to try and rack my brain for potential replacements on your list. I love it. I’ve spent so much time thinking about next season that I haven’t gone back to last year in a while. Rosenchopper comes up quickly and I guess the lateral is a big one, but the Dom Rhodes reception is easily one of my favorite plays and I had completely forgotten it. That was one of those beautiful Colts plays where as it’s unfolding you can tell the Colts just outsmarted the opposition. Over the years we’ve had so many plays that just turn out beautiful because of execution and smarts – that’s a perfect example.

Bravo Toronto Colts Fan – I loved this post.

mine was when they beat the Titans during their second meeting

I almost fell over laughing when the Colts did the onside kick. They really ran all over the Titans and gave them a good taste of who the Colts were. Good post by the way also.

Good post

It brought back great memories from last season, but that Week 16 game vs. the Jags is definitely my fav moment from the season. Everything that could’ve gone wrong that night did: the defense acted like it never tackled a player in the NFL by allowing Jacksonville to score two touchdowns in the first quarter, Vinny missed a fg in the first half while Jacksonville turned around made its fg, but Peyton was determined not to lose that game. I didn’t even realized that he completed his first SEVENTEEN passes in the first half since I was so pissed that their were down 14 points. What Peyton did that night was magical; sometimes I have to remind myself that I’m watching greatness.

I like this.

Good idea. The only moment I would add to the list is when Peyton connected with Marvin (FINALLY) against the Ravens at Lucas Oil. I love it when Ray Lewis is exposed!

My fav

Was 2 pick-and-rolls to Gonzo against the Pats. Take that, suckahs!

How can you not love a team that does this?

It makes me think that you’re talking about basketball. lol

It's the only way I know how to describe what he did

Is there a better (football) term for it? (honest question)

How can you not love a team that does this?

I know what you're talking about

I think it’s just a pick…I may be wrong though. I remember how people were complaining about it was an illegal pick, but it isn’t. They’re just mad that their offense isn’t as sophisicated as ours, losers!

great post!!

I really enjoyed all of the moments you listed, the Jags game…..was instant classic, that’s vintage Peyton, no other quaterback, Brady included, could have done that, not one. I only have one other moment I would add, and it’s a part of the Pittsburgh game, where Eric Foster shed a double team block and stuffed Mewelde Moore on the goal line!! I hope you guys remember that one, because that was crucial to the victory….go blue!!
