OK this is just to help me get my bearings here....

I've noticed that there are a lot of new-comer Colts fans here.....i.e. since we've had Peyton.  I'm not trying to insult them, because I fully welcome new Colts fans, but at the same time.....I remember the 3-13 years, the 2-14 years, Lydell Mitchell, Bill Brooks, Linday Infante, and Ted Marchibroda (yes he was our coach before announcer). Now I'm not trying to patronize, but it seems like a lot of posters on this site aren't aware of what we came from, unless they looked it up.....as in they weren't fans when that happened....so I guess my point of this post is to find out who is who....and I don't mean that in a segregative way, just a kind of info on each of the posters...

btw, I'm 23, born and raised in Remington, Indiana, die hard Indy fan since I could walk, fav D player for us ever: Chad Bratzke, and favorite O player ever: Marvin Harrison

I think it is important to be well versed and knowledgable on your history, and not just stats, otherwise you're doomed to repeat it.....I sincerely enjoy this website about 10 times more than www.coltpower.com so any kind of feedback would be good, thank you for the welcome!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

I'll be the first

I’m 24, turned a Colts fan when I moved to Indiana from Louisiana in 1996 . That previous year AFC championship game was the first Colts game that I remember watching and it won me over as a Colts fan.

Always been a colts fan.

I’ve lived in indy all my life and since i can remember i’ve rooted for the colts. My favorite def. player was mike prior and my favorite off. player was bill brooks. That of course was pre polian/peyton years.

OKAY fine you caught me! :)

But i have an excuse. I’m only 14 and I lived in Pakistan (a country in asia) when I was young and I moved to indy when i was 5. I didn’t know exactly what football was until about 18 months ago. But I fell pretty good saying that I know A LOT of colts history and A LOT about football now. If I were older and I had lived here earlier, I would be a colts fan. Just like i’m a pacers fan right now.

You realize he can just look that up

I have no problem with people who jumped on after Manning. They just better know some stuff other than “manning is good”, and hopefully taken some time to learn the history of this league.

I happen to know that he wore 92.

I also know that he was a fifth round pick. He also played five years for the Giants before joining the colts. He also had somewhere over 50 sacks in his career, i don’t know the exact number. I know all of this because I saw some highlights and loved the player, then i looked up who he was and loved him. I also know all of this because he played five years with each team. Was picked in round five. And averaged about 5 sacks a season. It’s easy to remember. I didn’t just look this up on some random website, i love Bratzke and you don’t have to hate on me harbaughmyhero, you had a first year as a colts fan too. shut the hell up and go back to bragging about being old enough to have watched more colts games than me.

Not all of us kids are trash talkers

You’ll learn that guys like shake n bake, Cassieper, and others are knowledgeable football fans who offer very insightful opinions about the Colts.

I myself am a novice football fan who used to get pissed off when NFL games would run into the Simpsons timeslot as a little girl, but now as a fan, the games feel too short when I watch the Colts play.

Since my new found love of all things football, I like to research things about the Colts and the NFL in general. Most of us here just do say crap like “Manning is good”, we can back up that claim. You’ll found some of the most intelligent fans in all of the NFL right here. The rest are imbeciles like that broncos guy ;-) .

meh.. i do my fair share of trash talking

but ONLY when they deserve it. My momma taught me good. And yes, I know quite a bit about football. When i’m 30 years old and i have little kids, I’ll be able to tell them things about the Manning era and the Joseph Addai era. I won’t just pick on little kids because they were born on a later date.

You also say you’re not trying to patronize, but right off the bat you go and jump on the ass of a 14 year-old kid (like, the third person to post a reply). I'm 20

got a late start into following the NFL since there weren’t any local pro teams and my family was never big on sports

(only football game I ever went to with my dad was a high school game that a student he taught in his english as a second language classes was playing in. My future high school put the 50 point mercy rule on the school my dad taught at largely thanks to future U of Iowa star and NFL WR/return man Tim Dwight)

I got into watching Iowa football as a kid and finally started getting really into the NFL when a favorite team fell into my lap. The Colts drafted two of my all time favorite Hawkeyes in back to back years and were just a tremendously fun team to watch.

I was a casual unaffiliated NFL fan for the early Peyton Manning era, but I’ve researched the era a good deal. The pre-Peyton Colts are kinda fuzzy for me though.

Started following football in depth in '94 when Faulk came.

Also a part time Raider fan, as my dad started loving football when he lived in Oakland, and passed it on to me, however my formative years were in Indy. The Colts came of the 4-12 year, and with Faulk became quite above average. I think of myself as a pretty knowledgable fan of both the Colts, Raiders and the league in general.

im 19 and got into the NFL and football in general, late in my life (was 12 when i first watched football) Saw the Colts for the first time when i was 13. Read most of the thread when it was newish.

Didn’t check just now, obviously. Guess I just ass-u-me’d.

On a seperate note, I would tend to agree that some of your replies in this thread have come off, well… a little pretentious (not the original post, just your replies). But no matter.

Myself, I was born on Kingsley drive (right by Broadripple) on October 13, 1984. My parents were pretty stoked about the new franchise and indocrinated me. Been a fan ever since, although probably not a die-hard til I was in my mid teens. BTW, did you have to bring up Lindy Infante? How depressing.

And what’s with the whole respect your elders statement above? Dude your 23, I’m 24… people our age aren’t supposed to say things like that. It’s just, you know… not right.

Although I respect you’re long loyalty to the colts, i don’t think soccer is sissy at all. And seeing as it’s the worlds most popular sport, most people agree with me, they just can’t speak english. It also sees more injuries than any other sport (ugh, the CONCUSSIONS!). It’s a great sport, and I won’t say manly since many girls can be tough too, seeing as soccer is a unisex sport, unlike football. And since you might sound like a messed up guy saying it, I think a bunch of hot girls diving around and grabbing at each other would be amazing. That was my hormones talking…

Legacy

I have been a Colts fan since I was born in ’87. I know it sounds crazy, but my mom, a fan since the team arrive in ’84, likes to say how I was going to games before I was born. I was raised on Colts ball and I remember sitting with mom when it was an away game and dad when it was a home game, since mom was there, watching the Colts. I would have to say my favorite players have been Chad Bratzke, Big Play Ray Buchannan, Bob Sanders, Ken Dilger, Jim Harbaugh, and, of course, our beloved #18

I’m 52. There, I said it. I think it’s a load of crap to seperate fans by how long or why they are Colts fans. What makes a better fan? MY answer is not age, or how much history a person knows. The better fan needs only loyalty to their team, and a passion to spread the word about how great the Colts are.

Colts!

I’m 12 and the Colts were rated like a 96 in Madden and I don’t like to lose so they’re my team. If I didn’t update my rosters online last season I’d be a Pats fan since Brady was a 99 too.

And you’re 23, you were like what, 6 when Harbaugh was playing? Not trying to offend, but just because a kid grew up somewhere or is told to like some team by their parents or friends means as much as a 12 year old playing Madden. It’s not WHY you started liking a team, it’s that you stick with them through both good times and bad.

There’s not enough Colts fans jumping out of the woods to annoy me. In fact, personally I don’t know any Colts fans, just the couple cars I see with something Colts related. Maybe give it 1 or 2 more SBs and you’ll have a good rant ready to go. But we’re not the Patriots or the Steelers.

Sean Dawkins

GO BEARS! (sorry.. had to… Dawkins was a player when I was still a student at Cal)

How can you not love a team that does this?

Rosey Potts Was Awesome.

Bill Brooks was our Marv before Marv, in my opin. Dawkins was a local joke.

Don’t forget Duane Bickett. Dean Biasucci.

Oh, and Nesby Glasgow!

HAHAHAHA. Need seas to start stat…

lol

What about Cornelius Bennett? or that one single season we actually signed Richard Dent!! haha, I enjoy having a website I can go to and post about my favorite team….(me being a transplant in Southwest Florida)
This is going to sound condescending, but, no Madden football rating ever persuaded me to be a fan for the team…and certainly not over the Patriots, but either way, I’m glad that you guys can allow at least one more asshole to post on this site, I look forward to the discussions for this upcoming season.

Taking a slightly different angle

And picking up on the new-comer theme, I just wanted to give a shout-out to Shake, BBS, and other regular contributors to this blog.

Has anyone else noticed the surge of activity on this site in the past few days? All summer long, it was maybe 14 active people posting and prognosticating… today I counted FanPosts and FanShots from 14 different people, most of whom I’ve never seen post a comment or story before!

Without doing the investigation, I assume many have signed up quite recently , but I suspect membership has been building and folks have been lurking. Now with the excitement of training camp looming, people are diving in.

This figures to be a great season, in part because this is the only place I can come to every Sunday (and every day in between) to hang with my fellow Colts fans. Lord knows my Pats-loving husband won’t stand for Peyton talk – lol.

Pats-loving husband?

I really feel for you now. I thought it was bad having two Pats-lovin’ brothers-in-law. Geesh!

Yep

At least he’s not obnoxious about it, though it certainly grates when I hear him cheer (we usually watch our respective games in opposite corners of the house).

I take that back

Last night he was quoting Kraft’s comment about Brady being the #1 QB in the league/world. Ugh.

If I were you, I would've cussed him out for his little comment. lol

You mentioned that you two watch your respective games on opposite sides of your home, well were y’all in the same room for the 2006 AFCCG?

We were until it was 14-3

What happened after that is almost too embarrassing to recount here – haha. I basically threw a fit and refused to watch the rest of the game. That was the first time I realized that you should never ever leave a game until the final second has ticked. And I realized that even in my 30s, I’m kind of a bad loser when it comes to my husband… what’s up with that?!?!

but i noticed a boatload of new people posting too.

by MARVININDY on Jul 31, 2009 7:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I have noticed the site getting busy.

Now I’m getting worried about the FanPost that I have in the works (Planning on posting it on the 7th) not getting enough time in the spotlight. Look for it.

/shameless self-promotion

Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Man, I need a life...

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: The World Series of Poker is finally back on ESPN starting this week (Tuesday nights). To commerate the event, here's a video of my favorite poker player at his best.

Not touchy at all

Just guys I thought about from the olden days when dinosaurs ruled the earth. If you ever get to see some of the games somewhere from the sixties there are some great ones, as well as some that had me ready to break the TV set.

Colts Training Camp

Do any of you remember where the Colts had there Training Camp before they moved to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology? This is my home town. Too bad they moved but then again I join the Navy the same year. By the way I am 26 and I remember that the Indianapolis Colts became a respectable team after tradeing for Eric Dickerson. I do not remember anything before that. It is kind of funny my friends Dad almost T-Boned Jim Harbaugh during training camp on the 95 team. Harbaugh was leaving camp and did not stop at the interesection and he had to slam on his brakes to avoid T-Boneing him on the passenger side. I told him if he would of hit him the Colts season was over. His response was yeah right the Colts season ended once training camp began.

Harbaugh could take it.

He ws one tough SOB.

YES

Tough, humble, and an absolute “gamer” as the analyists would put it, I LOVE Jim Harbaugh, a better player than any of his stats ever showed

You are correct. I was hoping to go back there this year. But my deployment kind of killed that idea.

I hang out in Anderson all the time.

Lots of family there. Too bad the town isn’t what it used to be.
