Highlights from Jim Caldwell Pre-2009 Training Camp Press Conference
On Friday afternoon, new Colts head coach Jim Caldwell held a pre-training camp press conference to sort of set the tone heading into camp and to update the media on certain Colts-related topics:
- Colts just completed a three day "workout" with their rookies.
- Longtime assistants Tom Moore and Howard Mudd have indeed returned. They are doing the same jobs they did before. Their titles are Senior Offensive Coordinator and Senior Offensive Line Coach. The "senior" portion of their title enables them to have more "attitude" with their duties, allowing them to delegate more responsibility (if they wish) to other assistant coaches.
- Caldwell praised Clyde Christensen and Pete Metzelaars for filling in for Moore and Mudd throughout the off-season.
- Colts assistant coaches will be available for press interviews on Fridays during camp and during the regular season
- Players who will open camp on PUP: Marlin Jackson (knee), Bob Sanders (knee), Sam Giguere (leg), Antonio Johnson (knee), Charlie Johnson (shoulder), and Adam Vinatieri (hip and knee)
- Vinatieri had hip surtgery this off-season and shortly afterwards had his knee scoped
- Caldwell does not expect currently unsigned draft picks Donald Brown. Fili Moala, or Austin Collie to miss any camp time
- Caldwell made a point to mention two players many expected to be on PUP will indeed practice on Monday: Gary Brackett and Mike Hart.
- All players currently on PUP are expected to be ready by the start of the regular season.
- Caldwell did not list Ryan Lilja as being on the PUP. He is expected to practice Monday, just like everyone else.
Start getting excited folks!

Hart
I’m excited to see Hart run the ball more than twice in a year. For that matter, I am excited about out whole RB corp.
Lucas Berridge
ditto
i was really bummed when he was hurt last year. i really thought he was going to be that “where the hell did this guy from from!?!?” guy……
hopefully he still can be.
i am most eager to see the running game, and the wrinkles thrown into the defense
just watched the video
you know everytime i see/hear JC i like him more and more. he comes of as a high quality and very smart guy. im really glad they hired him to be the coach……..and i hope i stay glad they did.
Just listened to Caldwell's press conference.
He is so well spoken, very articulate. But I’ve never heard anyone use the word regurgitate in that way before! He’s a walking thesaurus. I can’t wait for training camp, I’m planning on going a couple of times. Anyone else?
"You can't defend the perfect throw, what can I say?" Peyton quoting Marino
I hope so
I plan on spending at least a week out there now that I’m on Vacation. Looking forward to it.
I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation

Maybe Caldwell has a broadcasting future (way down the road)
Partnering with Emmitt Smith
I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.
nice easy demeanor
It’s nice to have a coach that carries himself they way that Caldwell does. Too many blowhards in the league these days.
One small point: I think he said “latitude” instead of “attitude” in describing the titles for Moore and Mudd.

I didn’t think I’d make it through the offseason this year. Every year seems to get tougher and tougher…

The real action starts on Monday!
Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.
Man, I need a life...
Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: The World Series of Poker is finally back on ESPN starting this week (Tuesday nights). To commerate the event, here's a video of my favorite poker player at his best.
dont matter
they still report and that is enough to get me all riled up.
But yeah Im even more stoked for monday since real practices begin!!
