Have you ever heard of Pierre Garcon? He’ll be the new Marvin Harrison in Indy."

Wow
It’s amusing when some people “predict” relatively obvious things and get to take credit for essentially being alive and playing it safe. You have to admit, this is a pretty bold statement. If he’s even half-way right (50 rec, 600 yards, 6 TDs for the next decade? I’ll take it), I think we’ll all be pretty happy. And let’s hope that the half that is right has nothing to do with Garcon’s recent larynx-removal surgery or the mountain of Tastykakes he ate last weekend….

I think he just means...
he’ll be the third WR. Wayne and Gonzo are the same, Marv is gone, so whoever the third is will be the “new Harrison”
Of course this is the same guy who called Manning’s knee a major concern for the Colts both in the short and long term, just four months before he won his 3rd MVP award.
He likes to overstate.

There really should be an edit comment feature on SB Nation, maybe they’re working on it.

my moderation report thing is massive because I used hide/delete on my own posts a ton
to correct typos. I’m try to do it less often now.
That's big talk for a little guy,
but I'm walkin' without reply.

Pierre Garcon and Marvin?
Whoah, whoah, whoa…the guy’s got some speed and skills for sure, but what exactly is he basing this on? OTAs? I mean, I’ve heard the man has looked mighty impressive, but that comparison is a lot to shoulder for a guy who mainly returned kicks last year, and was sub-par at it. Now, a year under his belt, he’ll definitely make waves, but wow, that’s early to compare him to the all time greats. It would be like in 1997 saying JJ Stokes or TO would be the next Jerry Rice in San Fran. Of course, Rice was still on the team then, but you get my point…
And don’t count out Collie. If Garcon is the next….who lombardi said because I am not jumping to that conclusion….then Collie is definitely our next Stokely. Who knows, maybe better.

Speaking of Stokely
Why isn’t he with the Colts anymore? I began following a few years ago, so I don’t know why he isn’t there now.

Stokely
There isn’t a person in Coltdom who doesn’t/didn’t love Stokely as far as I know, but I think it came down to age, cost, and injuries. His quality and production were known quantities, but I think they made the decision that it’s better to miss on off-loading a guy and his salary one year before he hits the wall than one year too late. In this case, maybe they were off by a year or two, but it looked like the correct, if difficult, decision at the time. He did have a bit of an injury history and one more season lost to a broken foot or whatnot, and we’d have wasted about $4M in cap space right when the team was peaking for that monster 2005 season and 2006 SB run.
Regarding TO and JJ Stokes, at least they came out of major colleges with VERY high national expectations. Garcon entered the NFL… well, as a bit of a punchline. Based on his anonymity and name alone (I will assume his gustatory prowess was an unknown factor), our esteemed colleagues at 18to88.com listed, as one of their 18 things to look forward to last season, “watching Pierre Garcon eat a crepe.” Am I close on that, DZ?
And DZ, thanks for the reminder about Lombardi’s affinity for hyperbole. I had forgotten who was responsible for that knee prediction. I guess if you make enough wild predictions and throw them all out, they tend to become white noise in the background until one of them strikes gold—then you can remind everyone that you are a genius! Lombardi’s still waiting for that moment…..
While we’re at it, I predict that a little-known Bulgarian weight lifter (is there any other kind?) will win Olympic gold medals in both lifting and the gymnastics all-around in the same Olympiad. You heard it here first. Gosh, I feel like such a sports journalist now!

True
Stokes came from a big time school and it was not against the grain to say he would be the heir to Jerry Rice seeing as he was a top 10. TO came from small little Chattanooga University (and played bball for them as well and went to the NCAA tourney—don’t ask me why i know that), but yes, was still picked 3rd round. I know Pierre is not exactly on the same level (6th round, Mt Union), but for some reason couldn’t think of a better comparison. As for stokes/owens, funny how things work out, huh?

Life would be pretty boring
If everyone sat on the fence and made safe predictions.
So thanks, Mike Lombardi, for making life interesting, and giving us all something to laugh at.
