Johnny O's reporting that Charlie Johnson is the new starting LT
This is disappointing to say the least.

Time to start saying it
BUST
I like Brown but what we needed in the first round was a tackle. I just hope we don’t spend the next 16 games paying for it.
Brown was definitely a better pick than an OT at 27
When the Colts picked, the best OT on the board was Eben Britton, who was not considered a first-round talent.
But the fact that Ugoh has lost his starting job to CJ does bring the word “Bust” into the picture, for sure.
OMG
Im going to start having nightmares!

Maybe it won't be permanent
Many speculated that CJ had overtaken Ugoh in the starting lineup last year when Ugoh came off an injury but did not retake his starting spot at LT right away. Ugoh did earn it back and, from what I saw, played well during our 9-game run at the end of the season. Maybe this is just Caldwell and Mudd’s way of motivating Ugoh again.
Let’s hope so, because while CJ is a great back up (owing to his ability to play multiple positions competently), he was a disaster at LT last year.
I agree
Depth chart moves this early in camp are often a “motivational” thing for the guy who lost the job. But even if it’s not and CJ is just that much better than TU, then wouldn’t we reather have him start over TU?

Phil B.
Phil B. has a longer version of this up on his blog too.

Caldwell suggests that CJ came into camp as the starter and Ugoh was just there while CJ recovered. Maybe it is the case that this is supposed to light a fire under Ugoh’s ass and he has to beat Johnson out for the job or he can ride the bench. Is it at all possible that CJ can be a functional LT if he spends the rest of training camp focusing entirely on this position? This might be wishful thinking. Dammit, Ugoh.
I really hope this is a "get your ass in gear Ugoh" move
not what they really think is the best OL they can put out there.
I really don’t think CJ was a better tackle than Ugoh, and I’m not even as down on CJ as most. He was a disaster in 2007, but last year they were able to get by with him at LT. I even think he might be the future at RT, but I do not think he’s a better tackle than Ugoh has been the last two years, and he doesn’t have nearly the potential.
It's shocking what you can miss sometimes. The amazing color changing card trick.
I am making a face like...
Someone just shit in my coffee… Damn you O-line! I guess we get to look forward to 4 WR sets, 50 yd rushing games and Peyton’s ass being covered in grass stains all season!

Toudouze, Hilliard and Federkiel . . .
These three guys have been around for at least three years apiece, and as I recall Toudouze played well at left tackle in a game vs. San Diego last year or the year before.
Any chance one of them steps up and shows something? Haven’t heard much if anything about them from this year’s training camp.
I know . . . .wishful thinking. There’s always a possible trade, but who would give up a starting caliber left tackle?
Jim Irsay must be gnashing his teeth. And Polian.
I know, I know. . . .
Tarik Glenn comes out of retirement for one last roundup with Howard Mudd!
He owes us!
For leaving us high and dry in ’07!

splits with Ugoh vs without Ugoh here
http://www.stampedeblue.com/2009/2/6/751181/player-review-tony-ugoh
though in CJ’s defense the without Ugoh also includes a backup LG filling the spot CJ left to go to LT.

terrible just terrible
I dont get why Ugoh was demoted. Ugoh was doing well in camp I herd and Johnson flat out sucks as pass blocking as an LT. Like shake said this move better be just to light a fire under Ugoh. Johnson will fail as an LT.
or
this better be just because Johnson has been injured and the Colts want him to get a little practice with the starting unit to get back into the flow of things before they put him back as a back up.

I didn't notice Ugoh being special at TC.
I noticed that he started with the first team in the morning practice, indicating that he was the starter. Afternooon practice he sat out completely, and I was wondering why. Now I’m thinking the Colts were looking at other guys the whole time, trying to see what they had in Federkeil and Hilliard. But nothing about Ugoh that I saw last Friday stood out, other than the fact that his body was on the field with the first team.
This is not good news at all.

Oh...shucks
Johnson has arms like a T-Rex. Colts could be screwed on this one.

Relax.
Tony will be there Week 1.

LOT: Colt's Achillies Heel?
I was very surprised during the draft when Polian skipped on selecting an OT. This team
is now VERY deep everywhere except OT. However, at cornerback, it looks like his 3rd round selection, Jerraud Powers, is going to be a good one, and Hughes is also starting to look good. It appears that the Colts will have a surplus of talent in the secondary and maybe on the defensive line.
Would it make good sense for Polian to address this ‘Achilles Heel’ that could ruin the
season by scouring the league to look at teams with excess offensive line talent and
make a trade? The Colts have an opportunity to claim another championship this season. I’d hate to see this opportunity wasted.
