Ryan Diem Hurt and Ugoh at RT

Phil B. is reporting that Diem went out today with what appears to be a back injury (soreness, spasms, or something?).  While it doesn't seem "serious" it is an injury that could "linger."  Lingering injuries seem pretty damn serious to me: see Marvin Harrison 2007.  Maybe we have a year of "he'll be back next week" reports on Diem.  The guy is on his last legs; it was only a matter of time.  Now we have the unsightly offensive line situation with t-rex armed CJ on the left and Tony Ugoh flipping his entire training and trying to man the right side of the line.  Great.  Maybe Marlin and Reggie can swithc positions too and just complete the sideshow.

Hopefully the O-line situation gets itself worked out very soon and whatever unit emerges will get significant camp and pre-season reps together and get some sense of cohesion before opening day.

CJ at RT, Ugoh at LT was something I nearly wrote a post advocating last season*

I’ll believe that CJ at LT and Ugoh at RT is a good idea when I see it work and not a second beforehand.

*=the post was going to be titled “an indecent proposal”.

It's shocking what you can miss sometimes. The amazing color changing card trick.

Now...

That would make a lot more sense.

Well shit

How can you not love a team that does this?

Diem sucked balls last year too

If Charlie is going to be the LT, then Ugoh better be the RT.

Did I step into the Twilight Zone?

When are things going to start making sense?

Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Man, I need a life...

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: Cursed players this year (via my autograph curse): Donald Brown, Fili Moala, Jerraud Powers, Austin Collie, Terrence Taylor, and Curtis Painter.

Switcherooski

I would rather see Ugoh at RT obviously and I am okay with Chaz Johnson going to RT because I am not a big fan of Diem either (he should be a backup and is paid too much as well) but Ugoh starting at RT doesn’t make much sense if he is a LT and always has been.

Curious

Similar to another question I posted, but what are the skills / characteristics they look for in LT for RT? My initial sense is that at RT you have a bigger responsibility not only because it is the QB’s blind side, but because there’s potentially a much bigger field to protect. But then again, if you’re crowded to the left hashmark, maybe it doesn’t make as much of a difference and the only real factor is the potential to blindside the QB… thoughts?

How can you not love a team that does this?

LT is a right handed QB's blindside

so they need to be a more skilled pass blocker. RTs are the QBs front side so pass pro is less needed, but still very important.

RTs tend to be big maulers who can pass pro reasonably well. LTs are physical freaks, 300+ pound men who are quick, agile and strong enough to be top flight pass blockers.

It's shocking what you can miss sometimes. The amazing color changing card trick.

+1

I think LT’s are usually known for having longer arms/longer reach as well, right?
