Seward Signs With Rivals Jaguars

So much for the colts releasing linebacker Adam Seward, simply to resign  him with the running backs get healthy. According to cbssportsline, Seward has already signed with the Jaguars. is Freddy Keiaho really gonna be our back up MIKE backer. That is somewhat troubling. In the limited amount of time that he has played in that position, he as struggled. This opens up a roster spot for Ramon Humber or Jordan Senn, who are both good special team linebackers. We'll have to see how it all shakes out.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

Why can't the guys we release ever to to the NFC or something?

They always seem to go right to a division rival or a Steelers (Ratliff).

Arch Rival may be a little strong

The Jaguars are more like the jealous little brother who’s trying to copy the big one. I would say our only true rival in the division is Tennessee, seeing as they are the only other team to ever win the AFC South, and Houston is an up-and-coming rival.

I agree.

I think that people are mixing up the words rivalry and hate. You can hate a team but not be a rival of them. For example, I hate the Cowboys, but nobody in their right minds would consider them rivals of the Colts. The Jags haven’t been competitive enough in the division for me to consider them rivals, but I hate their guts.

Now, I hate the Patriots and consider them our greatest rivals, but that’s another story.

As a Jags fan, i think of us as a middle child

with Colts as the older child, Texans as the younger brother and titans as a half-brother/Step-brother. just a thought.

I look for

Jacksonville to bring up the rear this year in the South. I expect the Colts to spank em, regardless of ex Colts on the roster.

I don't consider the Jags our ARCH rivals.

In my mind it’s the stinking Patriots. With the Chargers a close second. Then maybe Baltimore because of the history there. And throw in the Steelers for good measure.

It's not so much...

That they’re our arch rivals as we’re their arch rivals.

Example:
Cars are the arch rivals of squirrels.
Squirrels are not the arch rivals of cars.

And just like with squirrels, when we’re done running over the Jags we just hose the blood off our fender and go on about our business, with nary a thought about it.
But the Squirrels…oh, the Squirrels, they remember what we did to them and their hatred grows…

OK

And the Jags are just as stupid as squirrels. No matter how many times they get creamed, they STILL keep running out in front of us only to end up the losers.

That is a work of art

And I cannot emphasize that too much.

I expect Seward’s time in Jax to start out like this, “Welcome to the team, Adam. So what’s with all the new tweaks and pressure packages Coyer is installing?”

After he’s there for a while, it’ll of course evolve into, “So of the 3 LBs in this situation, which one is bringing the heat?”

And finally, “Sorry, Adam, we really cold have used you, but there’s this really tall, really fast, drug-addled college QB we just need to sign as our next receiving threat. You ever see the movie Scarface? Yeah, guys like him. I’m sure you understand.”

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

Freddie...

Is a middle linebacker. It’s his natural position. Apart from the two-ish seasons he started for the Colts, he’s always played MLB in college and in spot work for Indianapolis before he was a starter. Not saying he can seamlessly replace Gary Brackett in the event of an injury, but he’s more proven at the position than Seward. Don’t see what the problem is.

By the way, along the same line of thinking that this post has taken, what do you guys think the odds are that Jim Sorgi will NEVER be cut, no matter how much a cheaper, younger QB outplays him? I think he goes from perpetual Colts backup to Colts assistant coach/offensive coordinator or something like that. Tell me if you’re the Titans, Texans or Jags you don’t pounce on him the second he gets waived, just for his knowledge of the Colts playbook and his potential knowledge of Manning’s signals. Scary thought.

I had never thought of that, but I would have to agree — at this point he probably knows all of Peyton’s audibles and slang.

by Colts Syndrome on Aug 25, 2009 12:18 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he's pretty clearly not a T-2 MLB from his play filling in for Brackett

maybe if they practice him at the position it’d work, but he could not handle the MLB spot last year. I think that’s a big reason everyone has such terrible memories of him from last season. It’s not like he was good at WLB, but he finished the year playing terribly at MLB.

It's shocking what you can miss sometimes. The amazing color changing card trick.

by shake n bake on Aug 25, 2009 12:27 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

If the end of last year was any indication of what we could expect from Keiaho in case Brackett ever went down again, we are in trouble. Not saying that Seward would have been a better option, but it’s safe to say that “something else” would be a good backup plan.

Fingers crossed for Brackett….

by AceOfSpades on Aug 25, 2009 11:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have thought that about Sorgi for years

It’s fashionable in some circles to blast him as being so vastly inferior to Manning (the Visigoths got the same badmouthing after the Roman legions faded into history, but they were a kick-ass bunch). Clearly the Colts are paying him a bunch of money and just as clearly, it’s not all for his on-field prowess (he gets paid nearly as much per completion as Manning!). He’s probably fine on-field, but 90% of what he does on Sundays is support Manning—he’s the guy with the clip board and headset—he’s working with Moore and Manning to pick apart the other team’s D and tune our offense right. Now while some might say that Manning’s QB coach or OC or Assistant QB is the easiest job in the world next to Tony Siragusa’s pastry chef, I suspect it involves a lot of work and requires a lot of football smarts. Smarts that would be well applied in a future job as a QB coach, OC, etc.

But Sundays are just one day a week. Jim’s second job is week-long prep, breaking down film, as a sounding board, etc for 18. And finally mimicking the opponent’s QB during practices. We know how valuable that was to the Pats when they played us in the 2003 playoffs (ex-Colt Huard?) and the Bucs in the 2002 SB with Gruden standing in for Gannon at practices. Jim must be pretty good at that as well. it provides a valuable service to the team that is not so obvious on Sundays. And those services may not requre a lightning release or cannon arm, or even top-tier instantaneous decision making skills, but they do require football smarts, some physical skills, and the ability to communicate. If he can go one step further and teach, then he probably has a decent coaching career in front of him. Kubiak did it in Denver. Why not #12?

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.
