I know it's only preseason but....
There are a few things that are really bothering me. The first being the defensive performance. I realize that we had a few guys dinged, but for crissakes I would think that the guys who started would use this as an opportunity to step up and show coaches and fans their best. I have always felt that Freddy Keiaho got a raw deal by being released. Based on what he showed me today, I now feel the Colts cut the wrong linebacker this past week. Dammit Freddy, you stunk the place up today! Four missed tackles that I saw. Dude, I learned in High School to keep my head up and wrap when making a tackle. It looked today like all the Colts linebackers made a pregame deal that only safeties could make friggin tackles. The tackling by the defense as a whole sucked. Secondly, what happened to the commitment to getting the defense off the field so Peyton could get more opportunities to score? The third down performance was non freaking existant. Thirdly, I hope to gosh somebody, anybody steps up and shows that they can return a punt or kickoff, or field position is going to be a way bigger issue than it should be. I know it's preseason, but jeez, isn't that when you work on the main issues you need to improve on? Right now for the Colts, the focus just needs to be simplified to tackle, block, catch and run. There is no reason that a team with the kind of talent we have, including the backups shouldn't have the pride to put up a decent performance, preseason or not. Okay, I'm done, stick a fork in me. It will hurt less than watching our defense today.

I don't know that it's postseason.
I think it’s preseason.
Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.
Man, I need a life...
Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: Whenever I think of Tom Brady, my thoughts immediately turn to this.
6-9 missing starters on D isn't a few guys
thats more than half your lineup. Sanders, Hayden, Johnson, Mathis, Freeney, Jackson, Bethea (I realize the last three played, but it was so sparingly. Such little playing time doesn’t really warrant playing)
Bottom Line
Its the preseason. The Colts definitely are going pretty vanilla defensively. Also, this was the only game when the defense played this badly.
Just to show how totally unimportant it is, the 0-16 Lions were 4-0 in the preseason. The SB Champ Colts were 0-4 in 2006. If these problems happen against JAX in 15 days, then I’ll be worried.
EVH+DLR=BFFr........ God I Hope So!!
15 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please, please draft a big Defensive Tackle. Please?
Enter Fili Moala. Thank you Polian
Just goes to show me
Never start a thread after 5 Coronas. Postseason…..what a mook.
Everyone knows you simply cannot judge the Colts by pre-season performance.
It’s the same thing year after year. Plus we’re not fully loaded yet. Coronas for consolation after a loss? I went with chocolate.LOL

Pedicure for me.
Nothing like having a great foot massage to help get over a loss! ;-)

I had my very first pedicure the other day
I was trying to keep myself from laughing when the pedicurist was scraping my feet. I’m pretty ticklish on my feet. lol
Do I believe in aliens?" Stephon Marbury asked. "I don't know, because I've never seen one. But I believe in Jesus because I saw him in the shower the other day."
lol
yeah, my feet are pretty ticklish too. But the foot massage…man! I just love me a good foot massage!

It wasn't the loss
that pissed me off. It was a bunch of guys who had the opportunity to show us something, and didn’t. Lack of pride, in my estimation. I could care less about preseason victories, but a lackluster performance, especially if you are a backup is inexcusable. Backups who get a shot need to shine, not play piss poor ininspired football.
First let me say I'm not picking on you tim55, I love ALL my fellow Colts fans family.
But being so angry about pre-season football isn’t worth your time. I always think when they stink in August, the team needs us more than ever to be behind them.

Words of wisdom...
Right now for the Colts, the focus just needs to be simplified to tackle, block, catch and run.
This may be overly simplistic, but I like it anyway. It should be recorded in the form of a mystical chant and beamed 24 hours a day into all Colts brains.
Tackle…Block…Catch…Run…Tackle…Block…Catch…Run…Tackle…Block…Catch…Run…Tackle…Block…Catch…Run…Tackle…Block…Catch…Run…Tackle…Block…Catch…Run…Tackle…Block…Catch…Run…Tackle…Block…Catch…Run…Tackle…Block…Catch…Run…Tackle…Block…Catch…Run………

And, it's usually bad in the same areas....
Manning, as almost always, consistently shines. It always seems to be the same stories with the other positions though, defense, special teams, etc. And, just to show you how the day went, Gonzales drops a perfect pass…..are you kidding me? Sometimes, I wonder what Peyton has to be thinking about some of these guys. I just hoping for a season where the Colts can actually run the ball effectively, stop the run, and show some interesting things on special teams. Is that too much to ask?
Defense
I know that we were terrible against the run last year, but what I always remember is 3rd down conversions on pass plays. We rarely gave up passing TDs, mostly because teams could pound it in when given the chance, but the 10 yard cushion or missed tackles after a short pass always haunts us.
I know that everyone is excited about how Coyer is going to (hopefully) fix the run D and bring different looks and some blitz packages to help confuse other teams, but my worry is that we may continue to give up long drives with 3rd down and long conversions in the passing game. That is what I hope Coyer can fix.
Am I way off base/paranoid about this? Please tell me I am and everything is going to be alright…
Is Hayden going to be starting week 1?
"I'm looking for Ray Finkle....and a clean pair of shorts."
Actually
I think the running game is gonna be good to great this year, if both principles stay healthy. The LT thing is disturbing, but I hope Ugoh has the cajones to shut some people up. I guess I’m just frustrated that my really big expectations defensively are being realized yet. They looked good against the Vikes, but for a team so deep at linebacker, the safties are making way too many tackles.
LB
I hope, really really hope, that the safeties making too many tackles issue is due to the lack of playing time by the starting LBs, and not due to a general flaw in the defense. We all know that the backup LBs are nothing to brag about (except Hagler who I think could still take over for Wheeler before the year is over) and a lot of the poor play is coming out of that group.
I am picking on Keiaho way too much, but I just don’t understand why he appears so lethargic out there. I would think he would shine against backups from other teams, and be a solid special teams player. He hasn’t shown me anything so far this year. I used to love the guy a couple years ago when he was first playing in goal line only situations. He tackled well and showed a lot of enthusiasm. Now, I watch him blowing blocks on the kickoffs and Taj Smith is getting run over by a guy who should never be confused with Darrell “Wrecking Ball” Reid. I still think Seward was the better choice but if Keiaho makes the team somehow he better get his act together because we know that Taulilili plays with some fire.
"I'm looking for Ray Finkle....and a clean pair of shorts."
Me too.
He made a pretty good play on Cutler last night. Didn’t sack him, but alot of pressure to force Cutler to get rid of the ball.
