I looked on NFL.com in the hopes that I might see something worth reading about the Colts. Well I look at the season preview for the 2009 Colts and I see that two out of the four writers predict us to win the Division which is about what I expected. Then I see Brooks prediction: Indianapolis Colts 2009: 8-8 4rth in the AFC South. Huh???!!! 4rth??!!! 2nd maybe... but 4rth???!!!
The Colts have finished no worse than 2nd in the division since its inception in 2002. Yet Brooks thinks that the Jaguars, 5-11 last season Troy Williamson and a fading Torry Holt as their top two wideouts not to mention that suspect defense, Tenessee, who has looked awful in the pre-season, especially VY, and lost their best player to free-agency, and the Texans who have talent on offense and the best pass rushing DE in the NFL next to Jared Allen and Dwight Freeney in Mario Williams yet still have never had a winning season in the history of their franchise and a quarterback who gets injured when he hands the ball off. And Brooks expects us to believe that all of these teams will be better than the Colts b/c of a coaching change? Has he not seen Peyton Manning in pre-season? Or Donald Brown? Has he watched a Colts' pre-season game at all? Or did he just go look at an article at CHFF and assume that was credible information on what the Colts' record will be in 2009? I will admit that the O-Line and the inconsistency of the defense is concerning yet the O-Line was horrible last year and we still won 12 games. And you'd have to think that with Lilja back we could average more than 79.6 yards rushing per game. It also looks like Peyton is going to be better than last year when he won League MVP Honors and has shown no signs what so ever that he is slowing down. Repeat after me: AS LONG AS PEYTON MANNING IS THE STARTING QUARTERBACK FOR THE COLTS WE WILL WIN AT LEAST 10 GAMES. But then again, we are talking about Bucky Brooks here.
