Jerod Mayo out with a grade 3 MCL sprain. This looks bad for a defense that gave up 24 points against a team that doesn't have an NFL caliber tackle on their team

Ouch

I guess the Pats didn’t escape unscathed. Losing arguably their best defensive player certainly won’t help that defense against the Jets, Ravens and Falcons offenses.

Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever.

Jerod Mayo was the young, bright spot

in an old defense. Who do they have left now? Not much. Only blind optimism would predict good things for the Pats defense with Mayo out this long.

Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Man, I need a life...

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: My chemistry class decided to have their first test on Monday, September 21, from 8:00-9:00 PM. The Colts play the Dolphins at 8:30 that same night. I don't think I can be any more ticked off right now. I think I'm going to kill someone. No, really. I just haven't decided who yet.

what's wrong with blind optimism???

It’s what carried us through three decades of purgatory and a season without Brady. No need to part with it now when we need it.

Keep the faith!

I was talking more as a Colts fan there.

You can have all of the blind optimism you want. There’s nothing wrong with that. I was more saying that it would take blind optimism for an outside source to predict good things for the Pats defense.

Good luck though. You’ll need it with Mayo out.

Big loss

but you said that they don’t have an NFL quality tackle…you must have meant tacklER because as much as I hate the guy, Wilfork is an NFL-quality NT.

The bills don't have an NFL caliber OTackle

and still put up 24 points against the Pats D. I would guess the rest of the NFL saw that and are going to control the ball and keep it out of Brady’s hands, just like they have been doing with Manning for the past 4 years.

Defense is more important than breathing.

Technically they put up 17 points against their D

7 came on a pick-6

How can you not love a team that does this?

Hill earned the starting job for the 2009 season by beating out Alex Smith, who missed last season after re-injuring his surgically repaired throwing shoulder. Head coach Mike Singletary largely chose Hill based on his play down the stretch last year: he went 5-3 over the final eight games and he also owns a 5-0 record at home in Candlestick Park.
