Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

Making room on the roster, the article doesn't say who is replacing them but I'm sure WR Taj Smith is one of them, being called up from the practice squad to give a little more WR Depth.

GET WELL NOW GONZALEZ :) Please

Shake addition: Ed Johnson's suspension is up meaning he takes one of the two open roster spots. Taj Smith (as HSK suggests) or a free agent WR will probably be the other.

Well Ed Johnson would be another, right?

by LukeM on Sep 16, 2009 1:32 PM EDT reply actions

Hmmm

I’m not sure how that all works with a suspended player, but I’m pretty positively that he was on the 53 man roster for the first game. Hopefully he was so there is room for another player

by Hitstick Killer on Sep 16, 2009 1:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Really?

When a player’s suspended he is not part of the roster? Meaning that for him to be eligible to play he needs to be added to the roster now that his suspension is done?

I’m sure your right because I have collected your football knowledge is better than mine( all the DVOA and other abbreviated stat talk .)

I kind of assumed that he would already take up a a space on the roster, even through the suspension. Makes more sense to me.

by Hitstick Killer on Sep 16, 2009 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm almost positive.

I haven’t heard it talked about with Ed, but with Vick the Eagles could either take the exemption have him not count against the roster, but he wouldn’t be allowed to practice, or count him and he’d be able to practice. They used the roster exemption on him for week 1, but took him off it (and cut Baskett to make room) for this week so he could practice. I know Ed sat out of practice last week, but it wasn’t discussed whether they had a similar exemption or if they were just preparing for the game without him since they wouldn’t have him.

for another line of support there are 52 guys on the Colts.com roster right now, I can’t find any of them that are new.

I am bummed that Andrus was waived

but excited about what that means for Vinny’s status

How can you not love a team that does this?

by LovinBlue on Sep 16, 2009 1:42 PM EDT reply actions

i think hank baskett would be a good fit for the time being. what do you guys think?

by rcalvert1979 on Sep 16, 2009 2:08 PM EDT reply actions

Anyway they could trade him in Week 6 once Anthony Gonzalez is almost back?

Or do rules prevent a player from being traded twice in a season?

by Colts Homer on Sep 16, 2009 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions

it would only be one trade

the Eagles cut him. but if they cut him it’s unlikely that they could move him for anything week 6.

Roster requirements

So is there a time by which we need to have someone signed so they will be eligible for Sunday? I personally don’t like baskett true he has had live game experience, but smith has worked hard in the offseason and also has the added benefit of knowing the system

by Coltsfaninoklahoma1 on Sep 16, 2009 2:15 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Lets make a trade for

Michael Crabtree. A first rounder in 2010 would be worth it.

Thank you, Shake.

I couldn’t agree more.

WTF is wrong with him and his support structure

that would make him go a year unemployed (counting on someone being willing to pay him even more after a year out of football) rather than sign on the dotted line and collect 16 million in guarantees?

It's not just your perceptions that can be wrong. Even your memory is often incomplete or possibly flat out wrong.

by shake n bake on Sep 16, 2009 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions

WTF is right.

I wonder who his agent is. Does he really think if he holds out a year, someone is going to pay him next year? Let’s see…a whole year without playing the game, he’s an unproven rookie in the NFL and then there’s the whole idea of dealing with an ass.

Sadly

I think he will be a first rounder in 2010 if he sits out. He’s too talented. Mike Williams was a first round pick after missing a year as well.

we dont have the money that crabtree is seeking. Plus I am not sure overpaying for a rookie is what we need.

Armani Toomer is out there, I like the idea of Matt Jones too. Both as stop gaps of course!

Matt Jones???

You have to be kidding.

Niche Player

And there’s nothing wrong with that. The kid is fast and can jump high. He only has to learn a couple routes to be an endzone target.

Personally, I hope they just bring up Taj, but if they sign a vet I’d want someone who’s not ready for medicare.

lol - good one

I don't see Matt Jones...

he hasn’t been in any training camp this year, has he? Plus the whole nose candy thing.

WR Free Agents

Some might have signed, but here goes.

Ashley Lelie
Justin McCareins
Drew Bennett
Dante Hall
Ike Hilliard
Jerry Porter

by Coltsdude1000 on Sep 16, 2009 2:53 PM EDT reply actions

my take

Do not want
DO NOT WANT
eh maybe
doubt he’s still useful
not really a replacement for Gonzo (Hilliard is a pure possession WR at this point)

Unless there is another injury to our WR's

I think Garcon and Collie are just fine.

Other teams have plenty examples of very young and inexperienced receivers stepping in and doing very well, so why couldn’t a 2nd year physical beast (Garcon) and the nations leading receiver in Division 1 football last year (Collie), play opposite Wayne, Clark, and Tamme and be MORE than proficient as a WR corp. I see no real need to go out and do anything, especially with the injury only being a few weeks, not season ending.

I’d take that group of receiving options over 90% of other team’s WR/TE

by Hitstick Killer on Sep 16, 2009 2:54 PM EDT reply actions

Other WR names I found

Ronald Curry
Drew Carter
Koren Robinson
Hank Baskett

done now :)

Curry

I believe he is with Detroit.

by GonzoBlue on Sep 16, 2009 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Is Roy Hall still on IR?

Or did he receive an injury settlement? I’d much rather promote Taj, but just wondered if that may be an option for them. If so hopefully they will pass.

Like Curtis Johnson and I believe Nick Graham.

Team roster no longer shows this

Usually IR guys are listed at the bottom

by GonzoBlue on Sep 16, 2009 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions

John Standeford?

Moorehead?
Crap Thorpe?

Freddie Keiaho to Bears for Aromashadu?

by GonzoBlue on Sep 16, 2009 3:51 PM EDT reply actions

None of those are better than either Collie or Garcon.

If we’re merely signing a 4th receiver, we may as well just get Taj Smith.

Colts roster page was updated

I got all excited and counted/looked at the names. Still 52 players, no new names. I think they just added a link to the “Gallery” of pictures of Aaron Francisco as a Colt.

Baskett

Of the outside guys, he intrigues me the most. I think they’re looking outside the org. currently. They could always promote Taj on Monday if need be.

by GonzoBlue on Sep 16, 2009 4:02 PM EDT reply actions

Baskett

Plus – He’s a big guy, but mainly a possession receiver.

Minus – He married a celebutard, so how bright can he be?

Well obviously his football career is not on the uptick.

You can’t fault the guy for getting with Kendra Wilkinson. Other than the fact that she is a Charger’s fan and definately comes off as a mental midget.

Dun nuh nuh nuhhhh!!!! Super Mathis

Kendra Wilkinson gives us Kendras a bad name

Usually Kendras are smart, and funny girls, not stupid, Chargers fans. lol

Do I believe in aliens?" Stephon Marbury asked. "I don't know, because I've never seen one. But I believe in Jesus because I saw him in the shower the other day."

Actually

I know someone named Kendra, and she is pretty smart and funny so you may be on to something.

so, what’s wrong with that, you whipper snapper? Besides having to try twice to reply.
Sigh!

Adam Schefter says Hank Baskett

has cleared Waivers, and can sign with any team. I would say it’s between Baltimore, Tennessee, Chicago, and Indianapolis.

He said large reason why he went unclaimed is nobody wanted the 1.5 Mil. Salary.
