Quick hit thoughts:My five
Everyone's gonna have their thoughts, so I just wanted to chime in. It's 7 am here in Germany so I'll be brief.
1. The O-line did a pretty good job. The Garcon screen was textbook: Saturday got the linebacker, and Pollak got the safety. It's a pretty safe bet than any time you have an guard blocking on a safety, you're gonna have a touchdown. Also: Don't look now, but the Colts averaged over 5 yards a carry.
2. The D isn't as bad as it looks. Their weakness has always been over-pursuit, and that's a weakness the Wildcat is designed to exploit. It's also a weakness that is easily fixed.
3. For as bad as the Colts D looked, the Phins D might as well have not been on the field. They've got much, much bigger problems.
4. Donald Brown is a home-run first-rounder. Between his nice pass catch and a bruising TD run, he's definitely legit. And with two options at back, we can trust him to stay fresh (Plus: his awareness and body control makes it less likely for him to get nicked up).
5. Robert Mathis: Beyond clutch. That strip-sack didn't cause a three and out. What it did was set them back ten yards and burn their last TO. It also probably won the game. And that was after a 245-pound speed rusher had been on the field for 45 minutes. What a player.
Everyone will have their own thoughts, so fire away. What do you think?

nice work
I was planning on writing a “glass half full” assessment but you’ve pretty much hit it already. #1 is most important in my mind – the O-line really had a good game last night against a pretty solid defensive team. Porter had a sack and a couple hurries but that’s all and don’t they have another future HOF’er? Oh right, Jason Taylor, didn’t hear his name called once last night.
Other random positive tidbits:
- Garcon with a huge play, hopefully the start of something big for him
- Collie also had a huge third down conversion
- Having such a memorable game early in the season will help Clark get in the pro bowl
- Speaking of accolades, Peyton is getting his MVP credential together a earlier this year, good for him for not procrastinating
- The best golfer of all time is a fan
- No turnovers or blatant coaching mistakes
- As a fan, it was an exciting game. Blow-outs make us feel good about the team, but this was exciting the entire time (even if disheartening)
Realistically, the only thing we did bad was run defense, it was horrible, but pretty much every other facet of the game was pretty good. And it’s not like we gave it up to scrubs, Brown and Williams are both good backs. My brother noted last night, this game will probably go down as one of the classic Manning games b/c of the TOP. It’s always a great feeling to watch a stressful Colts game and finish it knowing that you’ll remember it for a long time.

NFL Record.
The lowest ToP to win a game.
One of these days, this team is going to give me a heart attack…gotta love them.
Our d on 3rd down disappointed me.
Great win by Peyton! Oh, and Brown…I’m loving this kid!

Donald Brown is a huge asset for us.
I love him already! And how about Peyton’s post game interview with miss Suzi? Pretty classy wouldn’t you say?

He epitomizes the word classy.

Marmalard?
Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.
Man, I need a life...
Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: I blazed through my test in 20 minutes and sprinted back to my room just as the MNF theme song ended. Good thing too, with that 1st play. So, my streak of seeing every minute of every game since 2003 Tampa still stands. So, my Chem TA lives (for now).
LOL...
Yeah, him too.
I was thinking more about this guy:

My thoughts.
27 points in 15 minutes? Gotta be a MNF record.
Peyton Manning is THE King.
Our last drive- 80 yds, 4 plays, in 32 seconds. TD!
But here’s my favorite quote from last night: from Pennington: “I’m at a loss for words, I don’t know what to say”,
Well I do know what to say: They were Manning-ized!!!!!!!
Dallas Clark is the best tight end in the league. and if he doesn’t make the pro bowl this year, I will be shocked.

where in Germany are you located? I lived there for quite some time about 25 years ago. I loved it there. We were in Wiesbaden, near Frankfurt.

i hadnt thought about the Mathis play as much
you are right my friend. What a clutch play by an awesome player.
Fact is...
The defensive issues are fixable, I am more concerned with the injuries incurred last nite. I think the elements are in place, and the D will come together. Overpersuit is correctable with discipline. One positive shown (again) is the old axiom of “Great teams win the close ones, regardless of circumstance”. This game can be the one that provides the boost to prime the Colts to bust loose for the remainder of the season. I gotta beleive the Colts’ confidence in themselves is sky high right now.
Defense
I guess I’m a little more pessimistic about the defense. It was ugly. They did overpursue, but they also missed tackles, committed stupid pentalties and failed to get off the field on third down. I guess the bright spot would be giving up field goals rather than touchdowns for the most part.
On offense, the Colts were very impressive. Scoring 27 points in under 15 minutes is incredible, especially when you consider that they never had a short field (the Miami 40 after the missed field goal was the best by my recollection).
One thing we learned about our defense is that they are in great condition. 45 minutes of playing time in the Miami humidity. I’m proud they only gave up 23 points considering how long they were on the field.

Nice spin on a difficult night for the D.
It could have been much much worse. They did hold them to 2 field goals.
