I know everyone is reaming the Colts defense and praising the ability of Manning and Dallas Clark as usual. Manning, Clark, and Garcon all played an awesome game, but someone needs to give the Colts defense a little credit.
Against the Jaguars we did much better in limiting rushing yards than in years past. And when I watched the 2nd half, the Colts defense, even though it was huffing and puffing on oxygen masks, were getting back off the ground and giving it 110%. To have spent 45 minutes on the field playing defense and to make the vital stop on Miami's final drive deserves a bunch of credit. Many defenses would have folded due to exhaustion, but the Colts stuffed the run, tipped balls, and played their hearts out. If it wasn't for that stand the outcome of the game could have been much different, and the Dolphins really had plenty of time to get it in the end zone.
However, what was with all of the off-side jumps?!!! I realize that with taking on a completely different offense like the Wildcat that you've never encountered that you'll be a little jumpy, but the defense has to be much more disciplined. The Colts had WAY too many off-side charges. And even Freeney got charged with one.
The defense deserves some credit, but they definitely need to work on improving.
What do you think is the main cause for the Colts weaknesses on defense?
