What kind of role will Hank Baskett play this week.
I for one, as many of you were, was excited to hear about the signing of former Eagles WR Hank Baskett. From what I have read and seen he seems like he could be a good addition to the Colts, at least for short term and maybe even long term if he can prove himself.
He played on ST Monday night, but my question is could we see Caldwell put him in at reciever in certain situations or will he still just be a ST guy? I know its gonna take some time for him to get use to the offense, but with a QB like Peyton throwing him the ball I think he can still be a good tool. I dont know maybe I'm rambling but it's just something I have had on my mind and I thought I'd see what everyone else thinks!

Unless 1 or 2 more receivers get injured,
I think Baskett will only be a ST player. He was mainly acquired for extra depth, not because the Colts think that he should start or is better than Garcon or Collie.
Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.
Man, I need a life...
Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: I blazed through my test in 20 minutes and sprinted back to my room just as the MNF theme song ended. Good thing too, with that 1st play. So, my streak of seeing every minute of every game since 2003 Tampa still stands. So, my Chem TA lives (for now).
I could see the Colts using him
but in order for him to be out on the field, he needs to get acclimated to all the adjustments and intricacies at the line as well as develope timing with Manning and that will take a while.
garcon and collie has had time with peyton
garcon is in his second year, and collie has had all of the offseason with peyton. if peyton needs to audible with hand signals is baskett going to know what peyton is trying to do. its going to be special teams for a while before he even sees an offensive snap. then he has to prove himself
"I bet Eli doesn't even have one touchdown today, ... I'm the best Manning."
-Peyton Manning
Easy answer - Not much
He was brought in because were were lacking depth. The media treated him as the replacement for Gonzo, but the intelligent coaches we trust with our football team are putting in the guys that have already learned the system and worked with Peyton for months.
I could see him, however, playing into the rotation in a few weeks if the staff see some favorable matchups. He does have size and speed, which could be helpful in certain situations. He could be the “Roy Hall” type of player that Polian seemed to have envisioned.
without the Roy Hall type of injury tendencies, please :-)
How can you not love a team that does this?
Don't overlook
the fact that he literally had no time to learn the playbook before the Miami game. That’s a tall order for even the best of players. I do in fact think that Baskett will play on offense at some point in the very very near future, possibly even the Cardinals game. Polian would not have signed the guy as extra depth if he couldnt be used on offense.
Sorry, but this is a guy that if given enough time with Peyton, will be thrown the ball to..
Agree with that. I don’t expect him to just jump in and be a heavy contributor. I think they will ease him in. I would like to see how he can handle run blocking as I hope the Colts become more balanced on offense over time. I think he will also be put in on goal situations first.
Insert funny signature here...
Probably won't see him on timing routes
But a fly or wheel route deep, why not? Use him and Wayne to split the safety and throw to the open guy. Manning’s got his deep ball back, just chuck it and let him go get it.
I don't particularly like the "chuck it" strategy.
That seems to invite interceptions, especially against any team that plays their safeties behind the offense’s WR.

I was impressed by Garcon
and especially his speed and elusiveness after the catch. Who knows, Gonzo may have a difficult time winning the starting WR spot back when he gets healthy. I don’t think Baskett sees anything other than special teams this weekend in the desert.
Let's not go crazy
Gonzo is the unquestioned number 2 and will continue to be when he returns. He’s a better route runner, has better hands, and has more experience in the system.
Get well soon #11!
